My journey in discovering myself in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia while fulfilling my dream to study overseas.

Cherry Picking @ Forest Range Cherries

Posted on December 21, 2011 By sweet surrender 1 Comment on Cherry Picking @ Forest Range Cherries

Las Sunday, made an impromptu decision to go cherry picking with friends from church. We went to Forest Range Cherries for it. The weather wasn’t kind to us, it rained whole day long. It didn’t stop us from going.

Greeted by the Christmas Cherry Train.

Picking cherries in the rain. Entance fee $4/adult but if you pick more than 4kg, then your entrance fee will be waived, only applicable to adult. Children below is $2/child.

Two types of cherries:
Left: The usual ones that can be found in the market.
Right: White cherries, it’s limited, only a few, not much left. We didn’t know it’s white, we’ve never seen one, thought it’s white in colour but it’s not ;p We were wondering whether we’ll have the luck to pick some not knowing that the other girl whom was with us had been picking it from the beginning *LOL* we joined her, found out that it’s different from the one we’ve been picking, so picked some and tried some. The texture is soft but we didn’t know this is the so called white cherry because no one looked at the flesh when eaten but just popped into our mouths hahaha… Only found out about it before we called it a day ;p very silly.

Left: Some of my harvest, I only picked about 700gm+ ;p ate a lot while picking. Didn’t intend to pick a lot also. Just to experience it only.
Right: Red and white.

After picking, we headed home. Guess what?!?! The sun was out!

Eggless

Posted on December 17, 2011 By sweet surrender No Comments on Eggless

Eggless, it’s really eggless! The desserts they serve got no egg in them at all! If you’re a vegan or prefer gluten free desserts, they have it. Impressive. The crowd was even more impressive! It’s located at 162 Goodwood Road, just next to the churchand opposite the cinema

Went there last Saturday right after our Korean dinner. Too bad my camera ran out of battery at Burnside so I ended using my phone. That explains such colour.

It opened at 8pm but we reached there about half hour before 8pm to be the first in line! Scary I tell you, not long later more and more people came and the queue got sooooo looooong. It’s not even open for business yet and people already queuing up. I heard if you come after 8pm, you might have to wait at least 45 minutes to get a table. That’s how good their business is.

Left: Black Sticky Rice (AUD5.50), aromatic purplely black glutinous rice served warm with coconut cream, very yummy, haven’t eat this for soooo looong, for years! Finally had it in Adelaide *LOL* What an irony. I can always make this myself at home, just need to buy the rice at Chinatown. Soon I’ll make it ;p

Right: Mango & Candied Orange Creme Brulee (AUD8), fragrant mango custard with tangy candied orange pieces, a tiniest hint of ginger & crunchy torched sugar crust. It is quite sweet but that’s what dessert is all about, sweet ;p

Left: Vietnamese Banana Coconut Bread Pudding (AUD8), a beautifully moist Vietnamese style baked banana & coconut bread pudding (aka Banh Chuoi Nuong), accompanied with caramel sauce & vanilla ice cream (soy/dairy). A great East West fusion! Quite sweet for my liking but can taste that it’s a good pudding.

Right: Cendol (AUD7.50 I think… Can’t see the price clearly in my photo), eaten all over south east asia, this summery dessert is a yummy combo of red beans, pandan bean jelly (cendol), palm sugar, coconut milk & shaved ice. I don’t like the cendol though… it’s tough -.-” Also, I think it’s best for them to use a bowl than using a glass like this. It’s difficult to eat.

Overall, it’s a nice plce, I like the interior. The price is quite reasonable for a place that cater desserts for people with special diet (vegan and lacto-vegetarian). No wonder it’s so popular.

Sushi Gallery

Posted on December 15, 2011December 15, 2011 By sweet surrender 1 Comment on Sushi Gallery

Had my very first Korean food in Adelaide last week. I will be eating Korean food daily in about 2 weeks time! Excited but worry at the same time because I need to go to the airport at 4am on my own with all the luggage and I have limited knowledge of Korean language. Trying to learn it but too occupied with work.

Anyway, let’s talk about this place. I thought it’s a Japanese restaurant when I saw the name but it’s not. It’s located at Shop 7/475 Payneham Road, Felixstow. Also, was told that you can’t get sushi here unless you pre-order. Hmm… The name sure is confusing enough.

Left: Cutlery.
Right: Soontofu (AUD10.90), soft tofu marinara hotpot.

Left: Pork rib soup, I don’t know the price and the actual name.
Right: Garlic Chicken (AUD15), fried chicken with onion, garlic, and nuts.

The 3 side dishes consist of bean sprout, potato, and kimchi. While the big one is kimchi with beef (I think… I can’t find them in the menu).

Love them all! Each of us only paid AUD17 for all these, there’s 4 of us. In fact, these are a bit too much for 4 of us but we managed to cleared everything on the table. We’re all considered medium-big eater and we were stuffed. So if you’re small eater, these are definitely too much.

Overall, the place is highly recommended and the price is not bad at all just that it’s quite far from the city(at least for me, unless I have a car).

Burnside Village

Posted on December 12, 2011 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Burnside Village

Went to the new shopping place last week called the Burnside Village.

The Village Market.

Love the design of the place.

All the big brands are here.

Even a huge tree in the middle. The roof is great. It saves a lot of electricity. Natural light is always the best.

The biggest Zara in Australia. I went in there but nothing caught my fancy. I don’t understand why people are so crazy about Zara. *Shrug*

8 Months+ Here…

Posted on December 10, 2011December 11, 2011 By sweet surrender No Comments on 8 Months+ Here…

How time flies, I’m here for almost 9 months! WOW! Can’t believe how time flies.

Left: When it was autumn… Nice colour of the leaves but too bad I didn’t bother to take photo of the trees when it bore white tiny flowers and the fragrance filled the air during the trasition from winter to spring.. Now, no more flowers but lush green leaves.

Right: Spring transition to summer… It’s so bright even though it’s almost 8pm.

Both photos taken outside of the computer pool.

Since August, I’ve been spending almost everyday, almost 7 days a week at the computer pool during the day time. This can be considered as my second home. It’s only accessible by those in the postgrad programmes and also spacious in between the computers unlike the other computer pools in the uni. A place exclusively for us to study and relax. At times, you can see students sleeping on one of the sofa lounge. I even heard that those going there late at night would even bring their own blanket and pillow there! It’s open 24 hours, 7 days a week except Christmas and new year holiday (I think…).

This is also a place where I got to know many new friends aside from being a place for me to stream TV series and do my research. Always see familiar faces. Observing many old and new students come and go. It’s a very happening place with all sort of human behaviours but the photos don’t justify it because it’s taken when people are having exams and going on year end holiday break.

I dread staying at home so will go to the computer pool daily even on weekends. It’s spacious and less lonely. Even when I’m the only one here, I feel quite comfortable unlike in my room, so small and looking at four walls even though I do have a view outside the window.

I had my lunches and tea breaks here in front of the computer while doing research and stream TV series ;p

This is going to be the place I miss the most when I go home. This is supposed to be my final second study period, would complete in April next year but now I extended my study and this will be my second home for at least another 10 months. I’m halfway tru’ my study, these are all the study materials I had for the past 8 months, 6 subjects. These are what I kept (presentation slides, study guide, course information, and journal articles), now under my table but I guess it will go into the recycle bin once I’m done with my study here, can’t possibly bring them back to Malaysia.

If I’m not continuing to master, this is really going to be my almost-goodbye-post to my second home. I have 5 more subjects to go instead of 1. Wish it won’t end so soon. Really enjoy my stay here, can I not go home?

Why do you want to dig that far?
