My journey in discovering myself in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia while fulfilling my dream to study overseas.

3rd Day in Adelaide

Posted on March 31, 2011April 1, 2011 By sweet surrender 5 Comments on 3rd Day in Adelaide

On the third day, I decided to go to uni to get myself enrolled and to figure out stuffs before heading out to explore the city. I didn’t check the map and just simply walked ;p I knew it’s at the other side but not sure of the correct road that led to it. Asked a few people along the way and saw many buildings of the uni around the area but I didn’t get any of them correct ;p

Anyway, after multiple attempts I finally reached there! Hahaha… It’s so near to the place I’m staying but I walked one big round, I think I almost covered the quarter of the west side of the city on foot;p

Right in front of the uni, free tram service within the city. However, it also leads to the suburbs and beach but it’s not free. I’m still trying to figure out the ticketing system so that I can go the beach and also visit another shopping centre.

After spending almost the whole afternoon at the uni, I decided to hop on the free city loop bus to see the overview of the city since it stops right in front of the uni.

From it, I found Chinatown! Great!

Buildings around the city. There’s many places that I had discovered riding on the bus.

I just took some photos as the bus moved.

I’m taking the anti-clockwise free bus.

Left: Railyway Station where you can find quite a number of attractions around it. The casino, the park, and so on.

Right: Adelaide Convention Centre.

Basically just to share the city views of Adelaide with you.

It was funny that I didn’t know where I should get off to go back to where I’m staying ;p I got off after the bus passed two stops (if I recall correctly). If I didn’t get down, I’ll be going back to the uni. That’s how I found out the lane leading to my place was between the two stops hehehe…

It was a tiring day but quite fruitful as I found quite a number of landmarks for me to discover the next few days.

2nd Day in Adelaide

Nothing much on the second day, I went to Rundle Mall just to see see look look and buy some groceries. Wind was so strong and raining on and off. The sun only came out later in the evening -.-”

Didn’t take much photos of Rundle Mall, too busy looking around and be aware of my surrounding because once I started to take photo, I could get all carried away.

Left: Woolworth(the place I do most my groceries) and Harris Scarfe(bought my bedding, plate and mug. They were having moving sales, gosh… The crowd was crazy, everyday long queue. On the last day, the place was practically empty).

Right: The stage for the upcoming fashion show on Friday(25th March).

Australia’s Pizza House

Posted on March 29, 2011March 29, 2011 By sweet surrender 12 Comments on Australia’s Pizza House

My first day in Adelaide, I went out to hunt for dinner, it was already 7pm but it was still so bright.

I ended up at Australia’s Pizza House not far down the street of where I’m staying.

Ordered a large Margherita pizza(AUD5.40), the cheapest I could find. Not too thick not too thin base with double cheese and herbs. It took me 4 meals(2 dinners, 1 breakfast, and 1 lunch) to finish it! ;p Each time 2 slices only and I’m full. I couldn’t believe I ate so little, I guess it was due to the tiredness the first 2 days.

Gonna try other type next time, the pizza there is quite reasonably priced. Can even last me for days, so it’s quite economical ;p

Adelaide, Here I am

Posted on March 28, 2011March 28, 2011 By sweet surrender No Comments on Adelaide, Here I am

Finally… Touched down ar Adelaide International Airport. The airport isn’t as grand as what we have in Kuching or KL.

A taxi driver hired by the uni was waiting holding the paper with my name. When I walked out of the airport, it’s not cold at all. I was feeling hot so I took off my windbreaker. In fact, my body was heating up and aching. I thought I might fall sick soon. Even in the plane, it wasn’t cold at all, I only felt inside of my body heating up.

Left: On the way to where I’m going to stay for at least a year.

Right: TADA! Here you go. A friend had moved in earlier, so everything was kind of complete except stuffs for my room.

It’s a two-bedroom apartment. It’s furnished except kitchen utensils and beddings.

My room, still empty. Will show you again in other post which is no longer empty ;p

Since I was feeling not so well, after I covered the mattress with the bedsheet I brought from home, took a shower, I went to sleep. Good thing I had a fleece blanket that I brought along from home too. My body was heated up, head was so heavy and feeling dizzy, I didn’t feel cold so use it as my pillow. Managed to sleep for about 1 hour plus.

My housemate prepare lunch for me. Then I headed out to hunt for pillow. Luckily there’s a shop having closing down sale and I managed to get a pillow(AUD12), a quilt(AUD30), a plate(AUD1), and a mug(AUD1) with very cheap price. (Well… I found out IKEA is selling plate for 50 cents yesterday!) So, really saved a lot. I almost couldn’t get a pillow as I couldn’t find it anywhere, they also told me no more stock. Luckily I didn’t give up, I saw one uncle holding a pillow, I asked him where he found it, he said somewhere. *LOL* I looked hard enough and found it under a pile of throw pillows! I tried looking for another one but no more… Phew… Else gonna buy expensive pillows. Good thing I bought a quilt too, really need it,the fleece blanket isn’t enough. Wonder how about winter. I’m now sleeping with the fleece blanket and the quilt to keep warm.

The apartment building is locating in Adelaide’s red light district *LOL* Rows of nightspots including some strip clubs! It’s sure very happening at night ;p I’m gonna stay in my apartment at night for sure. Don’t dare to go out unless have bodyguard *LOL*

Gonna blog about the dinner in the next post.

On the Way to Adelaide

Posted on March 27, 2011March 27, 2011 By sweet surrender 6 Comments on On the Way to Adelaide

Boarded the flight at 4pm+.

Left: I check-in not only from Kuching to KL but also asked them to help me check in for the flight from KL-Adelaide.

Right: Food of course, I didn’t expect lunch or consider that as dinner? Hahaha…

I had sweet and sour fish rice. It’s tasteless -.-” Only tasted a bit of sour. Sorry for the blurness, hehehe… The flight was full and the aunty next to me was looking at me as if never see people take photo of food ;p So I quickly took the picture and ate.

Flight to Adelaide was supposed to be about 9.20pm but it was delayed for roughly an hour. Had my dinner at Burger King. Funny thing was that, while I was in the boarding hall, I kept thinking I’m in Kuching even though it’s so much difference from what we have in Kuching. My mind kept saying that I’m still in Kuching *LOL*

Apparently I’m the first to check-in and I got the seat at the very last row of the B777-200, aisle seat. Cool! I thought the seat could not recline but it could, so that’s good. Even the overhead compartment only hold my bag. What’s more, I’m so near to the toilet too. So convenient. I kept asking water from the crew as I want to keep myself hydrated. I could keep going to the toilet without disturbing anyone.

Sitting next to me was an English uncle. He and his wife bought 3 seats but there’s only 2 of them. When sleep, he lay down to sleep. So, 4 seats with 3 ppl. How nice. The two seats next to me were reserved for the crews.

Took off, and had salted peanut, it wasn’t nice at all unlike what I usually had from my sis’ trip back home. Hmm…

Then at 12am, breakfast! WOW! Before touch down, another round of simple breakfast(yogurt and chocolate muffin).

The view was so nice but too bad I’m not sitting at the window seat. In fact I could just go to the seats reserved for the crew to take the photo but that window was so dirty -.-” So I asked another passenger who seated at the window seat to help me take the photo. Even the English uncle wanted a photo of the view too so I helped him to ask that passenger to help take another one.

The view was breathtaking. Just too bad… If I’m sitting at the window seat, I would make sure to have many good shoots of it. Basically the camera was focusing on the dead insects ;p

Next up… My first day in Adelaide.
