Yum Yai Thai Kitchen

Posted on March 27, 2013March 27, 2013 By sweet surrender No Comments on Yum Yai Thai Kitchen

Hohoho… Old post again. Went for Thai food at Yum Yai, 176 Henley Beach Road, Torrensville. Second Thai cuisine I had in Adelaide.

Left: My first impression was it’s an expensive place.

Right: Red Roast Duck Curry (AUD15.90), exotic Thai red curry with pineapple, cherry tomato, and roast duck.

Soups that we ordered:

Left:Tom Kha Kai (AUD7.90), tender chicken wih lemongrass with coconut cream. It’s big for one person, recommend you to share with another 1-2 people as it’s pretty thick and rich. Artery clogging! *LOL*

Right: Tom Yum Goong (AUD7.90), I’m sure we all know what’s this. Again, it’s thick! My first time had such thick and creamy tom yum goong.

Thai salad that we ordered:

Left: Yum Pia (AUD17.90), fried fish with Thai dressing.

Right: Yum Roast (AUD14.90). We ordered the chicken variation. There’s beef or duck to choose from too.

Overall, it’s a bit high for the price and portion. The food was very sinful too! Very flavourful as well. We were so full from the very thick soup and curry!

The Aviary Dessert Kitchen

Posted on March 24, 2013March 24, 2013 By sweet surrender No Comments on The Aviary Dessert Kitchen

Expect more Adelaide’s eateries posts coming your way. Lots of pending ones. So far, didn’t get to venture much with Kuching’s. Still trying to get back in sync with the food scene here.

The Aviary Dessert Kitchen is located at 227, The Parade, Norwood.

Left: Cosy little cafe.

Right: I ordered choc malt (with crushed malteasers) shake (AUD6.50). Not only crush malteasers but also whole malteasers, quite a lot in there.

Left: Mille crepe cake (AUD10.50) is one of aviary signature desserts. You can find layer upon layer of handmade crepes stackedtogether with a berry cheesecake filling served with fresh seasonal berries and strawberry jam ice cream. YUM!

Right: Special k (AUD9.80) is cornflake infused panna cotta, honey crackle brittle, creme fraiche ice cream, fresh seasonal berries and bruleed banana. Didn’t get to taste this but positive feedback was given.

Left: What a nutter! (AUD9.50), yes, that’s its name. Nothing special though. The jar consisted of salted caramel and hazelnut ice cream topped with butterscotch sauce, hazelnut and almond praline and honeycomb. Too sweet for our liking.

Right: Chocolate pecking plate (AUD12) came with belgian waffle, chocolate raspberry mousse pot and flourless chocolate cake. Only chocolate lovers will like it I guess. It didn’t go well with us. Evne though we love chocolate, this was too much for us.

I would love to come back here but I no longer based in Adelaide. Love the environment and there’s so much more dessert to try out.

Scoozi & Belgium Bar

Posted on March 22, 2013 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Scoozi & Belgium Bar

Went to Scoozi at Rundle Street back in January for dinner. Before going there, we had pre-dinner drink at Exeter Hotel located at Rundle Street just down where I lived.

I heard Scoozi served good pasta especially the one with fresh seafood but I didn’t try it because it’s too big portion for me as no one was sharing with me and I was on rather tight budget too. You’ll get complimentary bread as entree for each dish you ordered.

Left: spaghetti tossed with fresh seafood, garlic, spring onions and olive oil in a light tomato salsa (AUD19).
Right: I ended ordering chicken baguettes with iceberg lettuce, semi-dried tomatoes, avocado and mayonnaise (AUD9). It was so filling! Really cannot underestimate this. Quite nice.

After that, we went to Belgium Bar just around the corner. I heard a lot of it but never know where it was. My friends ordered some Belgium beer but I did not as I didn’t plan to drink. Leffe is usually what they ordered at Belgium Bar. I tried two variations, it’s quite smooth.

At about 11pm, we called it a night.

Korea Restaurant

Posted on March 17, 2013 By sweet surrender No Comments on Korea Restaurant

Another Korean restaurant and again, it happened in December 2012. We went to Korea Restaurant at 133 Goodwood Road after our carolling session.

As you can see, they specialized in Korean BBQ. They served 6 types of side dishes and the portion wasn’t small at all. What’s more, free flow! This is only applicable when you order the set deal. The set came with rice, soup, side dishes, coffee or tea and the rest would be your choice of meat. There’s beef, chicken, pork, and seafood for you to choose. The price ranged from AUD16.30 to AUD18.

It’s OK to indulge once in awhile. Not so bad but one set is too much for a small to average eater. If that’s the case, the other one just order another bowl of rice, that should suffice. As for the drinks, water is free of charge and free flow.

Seoul Restaurant

Posted on March 16, 2013March 16, 2013 By sweet surrender No Comments on Seoul Restaurant

Guess what?!?! Another back dated post. Went to Seoul Restaurant which is located at 65 Hyde Street, Adelaide, 3 times last year. First time was with a long lost friend for dinner before I went back to Kuching last year, then second time for friend’s birthday dinner in November when thing started to turn out all wrong while I was still thinking everything was still rosy, and the final time was for another friend’s graduation dinner in December.

I was told that this is the very first Korean restaurant in Adelaide.

Left: Kimchi Pancake (AUD10).
Right: Bibimbab (AUD14.90) but I don’t remember which type as they have chicken, beef, seafood, and vegetarian to choose from.

Seafood Bean Paste Stew (Korean soybean stew with vegetables, seafood & tofu) and Soft Tofu Stew (Spicy red chili with soft tofu, clams, vegetables & egg). Each cost AUD13.90.

Left: The side dishes you get when you dine there. They have different dishes served everyday.
Right: Bossam is steamed pork belly with vegetables (AUD34).

Left: Japchae (AUD9.50), stir fried clear sweet potato noodle with beef & vegetables.
Right: Seafood hotpot ($36.00 – Medium; $52.90 – Large). There’s crab, squid, king prawns, mussel and vegetables in spicy broth with udon noodle.

Left and middle: I’m not sure what are these. It’s been so long ago. I guess it’s Pork cuttlet (AUD16.90) which was deep-fried pork cuttlet with Korean BBQ sauce and Spicy Grilled Pork (1AUD4.90) which was sliced pork with vegetables marinated in Korean chilli sauce.
Right: Grilled Garlic Prawn (AUD24.90).

Overall, the food was pretty authentic while the price was a bit steep for me. The place wasn’t very fancy and located at quite a seclude location but can fit many people.
