My journey in discovering myself in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia while fulfilling my dream to study overseas.

Last Night in Unilodge Metro Adelaide

Posted on November 30, 2012November 30, 2012 By sweet surrender No Comments on Last Night in Unilodge Metro Adelaide

Updating this on my final night in Unilodge Metro Adelaide, my home for the past 1 3/4 year. Starting tomorrow, I will no longer have a place of my own and will be staying temporary at friend’s house in her sister’s room while her sister is away. In March 2013 (my final 2 weeks+ in Adelaide), I need to move again but no idea to where yet.

I’ve been looking forward to this day since months ago but now I’m dreading it! I hate the feelings of not having a place to call home and living like a nomad. I was supposed to move in with him, we had talked and planned about it but now everything just gone down the drain 3 weeks ago. That’s why I ended up like this. Frankly, I’m pretty depressed with it. I guess it’s because I’m in an uncertain situation, living in other’s place and have to be bound by all sort of restrictions. Even space is a problem. Sigh…

Anyway, I should be thankful for her to let me temporarily stay at her place or else I will be in very deep trouble hunting for place to stay in 3 weeks with very tight budget and very short and uncertain rental time (I didn’t prepare the budget for it due to the moving in decision). The place I’m moving in tomorrow is still in the city, it’s very convenient for me, and I don’t have to pay full rent. I think I will feel much relaxed once I’m settled down in the new place. I’m just in the state of uncertain that’s all.

Packing is horrible 🙁 if the unfortunate thing didn’t happen, I wouldn’t be worrying about how to pack my stuffs and where to store them. Now, not only I have to pack and filter but also need to move some stuff to another friend’s house. Worst, I brought so much stuff on my last trip back! Actually, I can always still move to his house but need to rent his empty room. Major problem is that it’s too far away from the city and I don’t have a car, I have no rights to drive his car anymore. Besides, moving in to his place might not be a very good idea too with such situation. At the same time, I felt that he wasn’t quite willing to give me the key even though we had sorted it out on the night we broke up. At the end, I decided to not wait for him for the key and move to this friend’s house in the city after she knew about my situation. In fact, she offered it to me months ago but I told her I’m moving in with him. At the end, I still have to take her offer.

I’ll stop here for now. Good night!

Dessert Story in Adelaide

Posted on November 28, 2012August 17, 2014 By sweet surrender 1 Comment on Dessert Story in Adelaide

Dessert Story is one of the dessert chains/franchise serving various hot and cold Hong Kong and Taiwan desserts. Heard quite a fair bit about it and finally I managed to go there back in October! Yes! Another October post. So far, went there twice.

Left: Taro ball tofu pudding (AUD6.20), you can have it hot or cold.
Right: Green tea and vanilla ice cream served with strawberry slice and grass jelly in coconut milk (AUD8.50).

Left: Herbal ice + taro ball + cream (AUD6.80), I really like it. Very filling too! You can have it hot or cold. This is cold version with crushed ice. Hot one will have red bean soup base. I tried the hot version and it’s too sweet! Cold is still the best.
Right: Milk snow ice with crystal jelly and mango juice with popping pearl (AUD10.90). HUGE! Have to share this, it’s delicious.

Overall, the dessert here is quite big in portion. I could just have it as a meal! So filling! Seriously! It’s not bad, I would go back. With the portion and the price, I’m ok with it.

Bracegirdle’s @ McLaren Vale

Just a quick post.

After having lunch at Vesarelli, we went to Bracegirdle’s just down the road for dessert/coffee.

They specialised in coffee and chocolates.

Left: croissant with straveberries and warm liquid Belgian Chocolate.
Right: Pure Indulgence (The Waffle!) A true Belgian sugar waffle served with fresh strawberries, liquid Belgian Chocolate & ice cream.

Left: Latte.
Right: Horchata (AUD4.30), South American sweet and spicy white hot chocolate. Couldn’t really taste any spiciness LOL but it wasn’t bad.

It’s a great place to hang out with friends. The chocolate was smooth and yummy too!

Vasarelli @ McLaren Vale

Posted on November 18, 2012November 18, 2012 By sweet surrender 1 Comment on Vasarelli @ McLaren Vale

Celebrated Mid-Autumn Festival with my friends at Vesarelli at McLaren Vale. Only post it now. So long ago! In fact I have lots of posts not release yet. Too many photos, too many things to do, too much happenings too. I’m still trying to make sense and take in all that came to me. I’m overwhelmed. In fact, I feel quite depressed. Trying to be positive but it’s not easy at all.

Anyway, back to the post about the food we had.

We were there early, the place was still empty but later it was packed to the brim!

Left: Calamari Fritti con Sale e Pepe (AUD19 – appetiser; AUD24 – main course), squid fried in local extra virgin olive oil, topped on a bed of mixed lettuce and finished with spring onions, red onions, roasted capsicum and a lemon mustard seed dressing. I like this.

Right: I some how lost this name, it’s rice based starter. Tasted just like our black rice.

Left: Carre D’Agnello (AUD29), chargrilled rack of lamb, cooked medium rare (or to your liking), served with a spring onion Skordalia, chargrilled capsicum, and finished with a warm feta, zucchini, pinenut and Local olive oil dressing.

Right: Salmone al Pinocchietto (AUD28), pan friend salmon with roasted beetroot, asparagus and fennel salad finished with an orange and caper salsa. I should have order this! This wasn’t on the menu, it’s the special of the day.

Left: Risotto con Funghi e Anatra (AUD22 – starter; AUD27 – main course), Arborio rice tossed through braised duck leg, Swiss and porcini mushrooms. Finished with baby spinach, parmesan cheese and a drizzle of truffle oil.

Right: Pappaderdelle Allo Scoglio (AUD23 – starter; AUD28 – main course), ribbon pasta tossed through black mussels, prawns, squid, cockles, scallop & bug tails, finished with a hint of garlic, ripe tomatoes, parsley and white wine and chili.

Left: Taglierini Al Granchio (AUD22 – starter; AUD27 – main course), Taglierini, fine fettuccine pasta tossed through pan seared SA crab meat and cherry tomatoes, flamed with brandy. Finished with a dash of cream, chili and served with half fresh blue swimmer crab.

Right: I regeretted ordered this. Should order the salmon, more worth it. Saltinbocca Alla Romana (AUD28), veal medallions pan fried and topped with prosciutto, sage and provolone cheese and served with cannellini-beans, wild spinach and potatoes.

Overall, the food was so-so. We had expected a lot from here but ended up with disappointment. We later found out that the original chef was on sick leave. Maybe that’s why.

Blogging since 2002. Anything before 2006 is no longer available. It is no longer on this server. Back then, I built my own blog and updated it using HTML. No database or anything. Only started blogging fully with a CMS in 2006. However, whatever was on the Internet will stay on the Internet. So... It should be still somewhere on the Internet. Then again... Why do you want to dig that far?
