My journey in discovering myself in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia while fulfilling my dream to study overseas.

Birds!

Posted on September 1, 2011September 1, 2011 By sweet surrender No Comments on Birds!

Can you spot 2 birds in this photo?

Took it on the way home after UniSA Open Day. I saw a guy busy trying to take pictures of the tree at the church and was wondering what was he trying to take photos of. Then I looked up, WOW! So colourful! There’s more than two of them actually.

Next, it’s a good thing I have a great view from my window. Consider quite good already. I always see many birds out there.

Last Sunday, when I was busy doing my assignment, I took a short break looking out of the window and saw many birds flying. They kept circling and circling. It actually lasted for more than 15 minutes! I quickly took the photos as usually I missed them flying. Who knows… It was still going on, so I took some videos. Will post the videos when free 😉

Spring is here but it’s still quite cold at night. Even day time, the wind is cold even though the sun is quite bright.

Ba Guo Bu Yi

Posted on August 23, 2011August 23, 2011 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Ba Guo Bu Yi

This happened early in August, before we girls had our girls night. We went to Chinatown for dinner. They suggested to go to Ba Guo Bu Yi (located at 98 Gouger St). I got no clue what’s that, I just followed them ;p

It’s a restaurant. Looked like need to pay a lot for it. *GULP* My first Szechuan cuisine in Adelaide.

Left: The pickle, spicy, salty, and sweet. It’s there on the table.

Right: Boiled Pork Slices with Garlic Paste (AUD14.80), it’s spicy but not that spicy for me. Then again those who can’t stand spiciness, then it’s another story.

Left: Dried Beancurd Dice with Spicy Sauce (AUD5.80), it’s even spicier but I love it! It’s quite oily though, due to the chili oil, still I just couldn’t stop eating them!

Right: Sauteed Shreeded Pork with Spricy Garlic Sauce (AUD14.80), this wasn’t spicy at all, strange… Or is it because the previous dishes were all spicy enough and couldn’t taste any spiciness in this? I tasted it as sweet and salty. No hint of spicy.

Overall, the food was good. Environment not bad. No complain. The bill of the night including white rice and a bottle of drink, it was AUD42+ for 3 girls. We almost cleared the plates ;p I wanted to dig more into the beancurd dish but they took it away hehehe…

UniSA Open Day 2011

Posted on August 21, 2011August 21, 2011 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on UniSA Open Day 2011

The weather is sooooo good today! It’s the UniSA Open Day 2011, happening at City West campus. I had signed up to be a volunteer for this event. In the morning I volunteered for the uni and in the afternoon I volunteered for Unilife. Both were great! It was fun. In case you’ve been wondering where on earth I am studying now in Adelaide, this is it! 😉

Left: A photo of me before heading out there. I was given the task to provide direction to visitors. I really enjoyed it. I wish I could help until the end of the event but I had signed up for the other volunteer task in the afternoon with Unilife (a change of t-shirt from blue to yellow and just realized that I didn’t take a photo of me in it ;p).

Right: The welcome booth, I was around this area. Since this was where most people came in and started to locate their destinations, I was practically running around from one person/group to another to help them with the direction. Only one directional staff available at each location. Time flies so fast and it was the end of my shift in the morning.

The following is all the photos I had taken after the end of my shift before starting another shift.

Booths around city west campus.

This is the most interesting booth ;p I saw students from civil aviation and their instructors having coffee break around the area I was working. GOSH! They’re all so handsome and pretty!

Visitors even got to experience flight simulator. Too bad I didn’t get the chance to try it out.

There’s fun activities going on too. I missed the red bull girls!! I thought I would be able to get a can today but I was in the toilet when they were at our booth! Too bad…

It’s a very fun and fulfilling day! This is my first and my last, won’t be here anymore next year to assist in this event unless I continue to do few more subjects to get a master (now, I’m doing graduate diploma, people would go… huh? Let’s put this this way, you can consider it as pre-master, add on 4 more subjects and you’ll get a master degree) hehehe… We’ll see…

Pho Ba Ria 2

Posted on August 20, 2011August 21, 2011 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Pho Ba Ria 2

Had Vietnamese food again! Went there for a very late lunch after church.

Pho Ba Ria 2 is located on Hanson Road. Many said that you must try the smoothie especially durian smoothie (AUD3.50)! I don’t think you can find durian smoothie in Malaysia but you can find them in Australia in Vietnamese eateries. It’s real durian! I didn’t dare to try because it can smell unpleasant to people after that especially if you’re not in Asia hahaha… Reminded me someone had durian in the computer pool in uni before -.-” Stunk the whole place!

Sugar cane prawn rolls (AUD13), we ordered the unwrapped rolls so that we could wrap it ourselves. What an experience. You need to dip the sheet into hot water to soften it, then place the ingredients on the sheet and roll! Not easy. Don’t forget to drizzle it with the chili sauce.

The sugar can prawn is quite nice. No more taste for the sugar cane because the flavour is already infused into the prawn. Very tasty dish. I like it.

Broken Rice Combination (small, AUD9.50) with peanut sauce. In fact, we had the peanut sauce with the rolls, it was nice too. YUMMY! Everything was nice, the meat you see here is pork. If not mistaken, you have to mix the peanut sauce with the rice but we didn’t. It’s still good.

Left: Fresh and cooked beef (small, AUD9).

Right: This should be Laksa Spicy Thai Noodle Soup (small, AUD9). Hmm… I don’t understand why my friend ordered Thai noodle here! *LOL*

There you go… My second Vietnamese food experience. I’m getting a hang of Vietnamese food! Oh dear… Gonna miss it when I’m home for sure.

Uyghur Restaurant @ Prospect

Posted on August 13, 2011August 16, 2011 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Uyghur Restaurant @ Prospect

Two weeks ago, after CIBO, we went to Prospect for Xin Jiang cuisine. My very first time having this type of cuisine.

It’s halal! I’m sure some will be delighted. It’s located outside the city though, at Prospect, but I’m not sure of the exact address only know that there’s a petrol station(don’t remember the name also ;p) with Woolworths at the opposite of it. Didn’t expect such small shop to have very good business. Even need to make reservation. We didn’t, so we had to wait for I think half hour for a table.

Here’s what we ordered:

Left: Uyghur Kabab (AUD2 each), minimum order 3 skewers. Nice! I love it!

Right: Goshnan (AUD11), not really a fan of this dish but it’s not bad too. It’s Uyghur style pastry with lamb, onion, and spices.

Left: Dapanji (AUD26), huge portion! You can share this with more than 4 people! Just order this should be enough to make you full if all of you are small to medium eaters. I love the noodle! Spicy chicken, potato stir-fried with special sauce serve with handmade noodle. Mind you, the more you eat, the more spicy it gets. We requested it not to be spicy but at the end it’s still spicy. To those who can’t stand even a bit of spiciness, you might want to skip this. Suddenly I want to eat this again!

Right: This is not spicy but I don’t remember the name -.-” Silly me, forgot to take photo of the menu for this one. It’s a type of lamb dish. HUGE portion too! Lots of lamb fat. Not spicy at all. Looks spicy but it’s not. It’s served with a type of roti canai like bread. Did a search online and apparently some bloggers also forgot to take note of this dish’s name ;p

Overall total for 5 people with quite a number of canned and bottled drinks, the bill came up to about AUD94 or 95, don’t quite remember.
