Penang Day 3 – Part 5: Dinner, Desserts, Flood, Supper

Posted on November 6, 2008October 11, 2013 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Penang Day 3 – Part 5: Dinner, Desserts, Flood, Supper

Back to Penang post ;p Not even halfway tru’ at least this is the last part of day 3.

Day 3 was a long day for us. After all the temple visits during the day time, we went for dinner.

Our first stop for dinner was Yi Garden. This is in the town area. I’m not sure about the details but I think it’s somewhere around Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Centre. We were told the wanton noodle is good and the porridge here is very popular also.

Left: O Jien, we had many in Penang if you notice ;p They were all so cheap. How can you get this price in Kuching with so many oysters in it! This is only RM5 and can share among 2-4 people or even more, depending on your appetite. So far, this is the best o jien that we had in Penang.

Right: Wanton noodle(RM3.50). Hmm… Nothing special to me but the wanton is very succulent.

Left: Our friend order another wanton dish without noodle just to eat the wanton.

Right: Don’t know what these two called. Looks like Cantonese Char to me.

The porridge that my friend recommended. It’s not the mushy type.

Next round, we went to next door. Got more choices here and the place is cleaner and bigger. The previous one was so crowded and we were practically sneezing when we’re there because of the smell of curry if not mistaken hahaha…

They ordered a bak chang. There’s salted egg yolk in there if not mistaken.

Left: Chu chang fen, no idea how much but should be below RM3. The sauce was so sticky and sweet! To me, it felt like jiu eng chai sauce that is too thick ;p However, coupled them with the sambal, it was really nice. Again, their chu chang fen got no filling unlike what you get in Kuching.

Right: This is the main thing that we wanted to eat there. The thin crust, very cheesy pizza! It was really so cheesy! YUMMY! LOVE IT! It’s baked using the traditional way, not with electric oven. It took a while to came but it worthed the wait. I’m craving for it now! OH NO!!! The price? I have no idea but definitely cheaper than Pizza Hut.

After dinner, our friends brought us to a fishing village where the village is built on the water. We went there to sit on the jetty to enjoy the night view of the sea and sea breeze. It was so dark when we walked to the jetty but when we reached, there’s a small temple there that was well-lit. We just sat outside the temple and chit chatting there. The location is near Penang ferry. We could see the ferry from here too.

Left: After that, we went for some Chinese dessert and something to cool our heaty bodies. This is the most expensive “meal” we had in Penang. Just drinks and some desserts! RM40+ for 6 of us! I almost got heart attack when I heard the price. It’s a shop that is quite popular and even featured in newspapers.

Let me introduce the dessert here to you:
Start from the cup, clockwise: Shen Si(not sure how to say in English, it’s the very fine ginseng, not the big type) tea; Guilinggao; Di Ya Kueh with gula Melaka, it tasted like ki chang(chang with no filling) to me when eating it without the gula Melaka, I hope I got the name right hehehe…; Tauhu Hua; Xuet Kap, I don’t know what this is called in English but it’s something very expensive.

These were basically what we ordered but some of them we ordered more than one. That explains the expensive bill especially the Xuet Kap.

Right: After the expensive desserts, it’s time to go back. Our friend drove us back with his car instead of us driving because we need to send the car back to another friend as her father needed the car so we would be car-less on day 4.

When we were on the way, it rained so heavily. When we almost reached Batu Feringghi, OMG! FLOOD!!! DAMN scary! We didn’t want to take the risk to drive over the water so made a u-turn back to town and stopped at one of the coffeeshop called KHALEEL(it’s everywhere in Penang, many branches hehehe…). We had teh tarik there and roti tissue while waiting for the rain to stop.

At about 12.30am if not mistaken, the rain was so much smaller and off we went back. Good thing the flood receded and there were landslides along the way. Scary. Still we managed to go back home safe and sound. Only manged to sleep at around 2.30am -.-“

MINEX Jewellery 100% Trade-in Launch

Posted on November 5, 2008December 20, 2008 By sweet surrender 3 Comments on MINEX Jewellery 1003 Trade-in Launch

Was invited to join the launching of MINEX Jewellery 100% Trade-in last Saturday. It was too good to resist that I actually skipped my class for 1 and a half hour hehehe… Also invited some bloggers along but too bad many couldn’t go because it was too last minute.

Goodie bags were given to each of us. Inside, there’s the “ring“.

While waiting for other guests to arrive, we were given some previews. Lousy photos, not easy to take pictures with this kind of lighting too. Summore, sat at the third row, what to do? Then the huge ass cameras were all in front with all the speedlights. Most of my photos have speedlights sprouting out just like mushrooms hahaha… Majority of the bloggers with DSLRs managed to sit in front but not me, nevermind about that, I don’t really care.

Left: The man behind Minex Jewellery, Benjamin Wung. He’s only 25 years old! It got most of us shocked when we had our private Q&A session with him after the launch, more about it later.

Right: After that, three models came out and dance to the music “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend”. It’s very entertaining.

Final pose after the dance.

More jewellery on show after that. Noticed many familiar faces. Always see some of these models in actions in many events in Kuching.

More, more, more… Besides walking on the stage, the models also came down and walked around the ballroom so that those sitting behind can have a look at the jewellery.

Finally all on stage.

Clap, clap, clap…

POP! Confetti everywhere. It was so loud that most of us got a shock. ;p

After the event, we were asked to go over to Senso to have a private Q&A session with Benjamin. We were caught with surprise, didn’t expect that there would be such session and I got nothing to ask at all! Not prepared at all. 😛 Luckily Cyril(or is it Edwin?) started the ball rolling. Learnt a lot from the man himself and he’s a certified gemologist and there’s only 3 in Kuching, or is it Sarawak? I didn’t really pay attention ;p Before the session, a group photo with him is a must. I’m sure many of you are inspired by him. He’s so young and he’s so successful.

Wondering how the 100% trade-in system works?
Let’s say, you bought a jewellery that cost you RM1000, then after a while, you decided to buy a new one/upgrade to a nicer one which costs RM2000. Then just bring back the jewellery you bought and trade it in without lossing the value. You will get back RM1000 and then you top up another RM1000. There you go! You are now the proud owner of the RM2000 jewellery. Get the drift?

For example, if you aim to own a 1-carat diamond, you cannot afford it but can afford a small one with good quality of course. Just buy the small one will do. Then when you think you are ready to upgrade, just bring the small diamond back and trade it in without losing the value and top up to get the bigger one. You will be assured that you will get good quality diamond no matter how big or small it is at Minex. The diamonds are carefully inspected by Benjamin himself and the other colleague of his(I forgot her name ;p) before putting it for retail in Minex.

Here’s how their 3-year dream plan works (Click to view)

May your dream come true 🙂

Of course, thanks to Ron from TrueCard for inviting us 🙂

Ten Ichi November Promotions

Posted on November 3, 2008November 3, 2008 By sweet surrender No Comments on Ten Ichi November Promotions

It’s November. So… What are the offers this month? How I wish the RM9.90 offer is still available this month but too bad, only one RM9.90 promo.

This is RM9.90, Deep Fried Salmon Belly with Rice. Personally, I didn’t really like this dish hehehe… Why? It’s easy, deep fried ;p it’s a bit too oily for me when I had it since I had just recovered from a bout of diarrhoea few days ago before eating this.

Next, there’s Kaizeki Sets this month also.

The first set is Kaizeki Set A, original price is RM42 but now you can get it at RM28.90. If you love salmon, you should have this. The salmon is braised with special chef’s sauce. I love it!

Here are the side dishes, Stir Fried Japanese Kimchi and Crab Roll Salad. I like both of them.

More side dishes, Beancurd in Light Ankake Brooth and fruits. Of course you will get miso soup and rice in this set as well. Again, share this set with your friends. So that you can try another set of Kaizeki set too.

The next Kaizeki set is Kaizeki Set B. original price is RM56 but now you can get it at RM36.90

Left: I give two thumbs up to this set! I LOVE them!! See so many type of sushi? Yummy, yum, yum… This kind is the modern type of sushi. Very colourful right? It tasted so tasty too! Give me this again anytime!
Right: Ebi Salad is also very tasty! *SLURP* There’s actually pasta in there with the fish roes WOW! Luxurious food I tell you.

I can’t help it, NAH! Another upclose photo of the sushi ;p

Besidses that, they also come with miso soup, fruit, and Beancurd in Light Ankake Brooth.

Lastly, I recommended this also.

Aburi Salmon Maki, RM18.90. My comment will be I LOVE IT! That’s all I can say. *SLURP*

By the way, it’s not possible to eat the sushi in one go. They are too big unless you have a very big mouth hahaha…

Order them all, they are available everyday. Go with a group of friends and split the cost. Top up RM2 for each of you to get free flow of high quality green tea. Enjoy your meal!

Penang Day 3 – Part 4: Kek Lok Si

Posted on November 2, 2008October 11, 2013 By sweet surrender 8 Comments on Penang Day 3 – Part 4: Kek Lok Si

Let’s go to Kek Lok Si Temple first. I’ll post about the other thing tomorrow or day later. Only day 3 *LOL* Not even half yet!

In fact Kek Lok Si is very near to where my friends are staying. It’s some sort of walking distant but we drove! :p Too tired to walk. Didn’t know can drive up too. Our friend purposely asked us to park down there.

So we walked up and I was expecting to see scenery on the way up but there were shops on both sides. Very enterprising eh ;p There are shops selling clothings or souvenirs on the way. I bought some souvenirs at the shop nearer to the top, big air-conditioned one.

Aiks… I thought I did edit photos of the views of the shops along the way up but I didn’t ;p

Up we went…

Nothing much to say… Just see photos.

The view from the top.

Left: One of the section of kek Lok Si.
Right: First Inclined Lift in Malaysia. RM4 per person for up and down.

Going up and view from the top.

The Bronze Kuan Yi Statue still under construction. There’s another sub-temple up there.

After that, we went for a rest at our friend’s house before going for dinner.

Next up will be our dinner.
