After lunch, we went to The German Cake Shop to get beesting aka Bienenstich. I’m sure The German Cake Shop is not stranger to most South Australians. If I’m not mistaken, this is the only shop that sells beesting cake in Hahndorf. Can’t find it in other place too but heard there’s one around South Road selling this cake too. It’s not a common dessert. Most people I know will ask whoever going to Hahndorf to help them buy this delicious cake. I think I should do so too next time.
It’s a must to have it when you’re in Hahndorf but I didn’t have it last year hahah… I didn’t know about this until that day.
Left: Can you spot beesting? I heard other desserts there are also very tasty.
Right: The big one costs AUD10 an small one is AUD5. It’s YUMMY! Two thumbs up from me. Gosh! Heavenly! I want to have it again. It’s not overly sweet. Bienenstich or ‘Bee sting cake’ is a German dessert made of a sweet yeast dough with a baked-on caramelized almonds on top and filled with vanilla custard, Buttercream or cream. I tried looking for the recipe, found it but seemed quite complicated. Hopefully I can try to make it one day.
After we bought it, we brought it over to another place to have it with beer. The beesting which looked messy in this picture was the aftermath of us cutting it to share ;p
*DROOL*
Oh no! I’m craving for it now. What should I do? When will I be able to have it again? On the other note, I wish I’ll get to have beesting as my birthday cake this year.
