Posted on September 1, 2019September 1, 2019 By sweet surrender No Comments on [Vlog] 6D5N Penang – Ipoh – Cameron Highlands Road Trip (July 2019)

[Day 1 – Thursday, 25th July 2019]

  • Kuching to Penang with Air Asia AK5437, departed at around 22:30.
Did you know that Air Asia has direct flight to and fro Kuching from Penang? It’s been around for ages but many didn’t know about it. 14 flights a week!
  • Check in G Suites at Mansion One (57-11-13, Mansion One, Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, George Town, 10050 George Town, Pulau Pinang)

[Day 2 – friday, 26th July 2019]

  • Breakfast at Hot Bowl White Curry Mee (58-C, Jalan Rangoon, 10400 Penang).
  • Drove from Penang to Ipoh.
  • Lunch at Restoran Delicious (37-45, Lorong Taman Ipoh 1, Taman Ipoh selatan; 31400 Ipoh, Perak) for lunch. *Typo in the video
  • Drove from Ipoh to Cameron Highlands.
  • Check-in Imperial Court Apartment (Brinchang, 39100 Cameron Highlands, Pahang), can fit 10 pax in it. Free WiFi and parking available.

[Day 3 – Saturday, 27th July 2019]

  • We brought our own breakfast to Cameron Highlands.
  • Visited Cameron Lavender Garden(59, Brinchang, 39100 Brinchang, Pahang). Spent 1 hour 15 minutes there.
  • Then, it rained. We had to go to Cameron Square for lunch instead as we’re traveling with a toddler and a baby.
  • Lunch at Xin Teh Bak Kut Teh(Lot G-18(B), Cameron Square, Jalan Aranda Nova,Greencow, 39100 Brinchang, Pahang).
  • Then bought a Cendol cheesecake from Strawberry Cottage(Lot G-13, Cameron Square, Brinchang, 39100 Cameron Highlands, Pahang). It was awesome! Tasted great, beyond our expectations.
  • Went to MR AISU Ice Cream Cafe(C-G-29, Barrington Square, Jalan Golden Hills 1, Taman Cameron Golden Hills, 39000, Pahang), only opens on Friday and Saturday. Another outlet(No. 5, Gerai Berhampiran Pasar, 39100 Brinchang, Pahang) opens daily except Wednesday.
  • When the rain stopped, we went to Brinchang Weekend Night Market(only available Friday and Saturday) for a walk. It is just opposite MR AISU.
  • Dinner at Delicious & Happiness Kitchen(No.16, Bawah Jalan Angsana 1, Brinchang Point Cameron Highlands, 39100 Brinchang, Pahang)

[Day 4 – Sunday, 28th July 2019]

  • Check-out Imperial Court Apartment.
  • Brunch at Restoran You De Chi (can’t find the address in Google hmm…), same row as Harmony Inn(No 10a, Jalan Angsana 3, Brinchang, 39100 Brinchang, Pahang).
  • Drove back to Ipoh.
  • Check-in Prima Condominium Ipoh.
  • Dinner at an unknown Chinese restaurant in Ipoh ;p Was tired and was busy entertaining a toddler hahaha… So I didn’t bother to take much photos or video.

[Day 5 – Monday, 29th July 2019]

  • Check- out Prima Condominium Ipoh.
  • Go to Concubine Lane for snack. The place is hard to find parking, we ended up parking at a private car park where we were charged RM5 for 2 hours. Do go there on weekdays before 11am to avoid the afternoon sun which can be very hot and also avoid the crowd. The earlier you arrive, the better chance for you to secure a parking. It took us quite awhile to look for parking.
  • Ding Feng Tau Fu Fa aka Concubine Lane made up of 3 streets but we only went to 2 because there’s really nothing much, the most happening is at is the Concubine Lane aka Lorong Panglima. Wife Lane and Second Concubine Lane has some wall paintings and decorations for photo opportunities and without the crowd.
  • We took a break at Cups & Cubes Cafe(No 10, Jalan Panglima, 30000 Ipoh, Perak) for Assam Laksa, just to try it out.
  • Then we moved to Concubine Lane Tau Fu Fa(8, Jalan Panglima, 30000 Ipoh, Negeri Perak) for Teocher Tau Fu Fa. Not bad! Not expensive too.
  • We then walked to Market Lane aka the Second Concubine Lane for a quick photo. We didn’t go to Wife Lane.
Went to Chooi Yue Dim Sum(2, 4 & 6, Tingkat Taman Ipoh 12, Taman Ipoh Selatan, 31400 Ipoh, Negeri Perak) for dim sum lunch.
  • Before heading back to Penang, we went to hunt for some durians. After the durian feast, we continued our journey to Penang.
  • Stopped by Xing Fu Tang Bukit Mertajam(13, Jalan Juru, Sentral, Juru Sentral14000 Bukit Mertajam, Pulau Pinang) for milk tea break.
  • Continued driving to 77 Bali Bali Cafe(Sungai Dua, Penang) for dinner.
  • Check in Econtel Queensbay(64, Persiaran Bayan Indah, Bayan Bay11900 Bayan Lepas, Pulau Pinang). OMG! It’s just opposite a music lounge. If you need to sleep, you really don’t want to stay here. The music and singing was loud till you could feel the vibration in the room. You thought you were inside the lounge -.-” music didn’t stop until after 1am.

[Day 6 – Tuesday, 30th July 2019]

  • Check-out Econtel Queensbay.
  • Brunch at HK Boy Cart Noodle(Unit 73-1-1, Ideal@The One, Jalan Mahsuri, 11950 Bayan Lepas, Penang).
  • Off to IKEA(752, Persiaran Cassia Selatan 8, 14110, Lebuhraya Bandar Cassia, Penang) we went. Did some shopping spree here *LOL* I didn’t buy anything until for the past 5 days because there’s really nothing that fancied me.
  • Before heading to the airport, we went to Design Village Outlet Mall(733, Jalan Cassia Barat 2, Bandar Cassia, 14110, Penang). Bought nothing because it’s all too expensive because was comparing it to the UK ;p
  • Headed to Penang International Airport for McD dinner and to go back to Kuching with Air Asia, AK5436, departed at around 18:30.

Welcome back to Kuching, Sarawak.

I hope you will find this post useful in helping you to decide where to go when you’re in Penang, Ipoh, and Cameron Highlands. We didn’t go to many places because we have a baby and a toddler with us. It was also raining at Cameron Highlands.

Next trip… Maybe Sabah. Might just look around for pakej percutian ke sabah. That would save me all the troubles in planning for the trip *LOL*

Fraser’s Hill

Posted on November 8, 2015November 8, 2015 By sweet surrender No Comments on Fraser’s Hill

The Fraser’s Hill is a hill resort located on the Titiwangsa Ridge in Pahang, Malaysia. We went there straight after checking out of Genting Highlands. It’s more than an hour drive but I don’t remember how long exactly was the drive. After a long winding drive, going up, up, up, we finally reached the place.

Was expecting a lot of human activities there since it’s one of Malaysia’s most popular nature and highland resort destinations. Yet, it’s deserted. You see more monkeys, birds, bees, ants, and etc. than human *LOL*

Temperature was quite nice. Very quiet place. We thought we could have our lunch here but couldn’t find a proper place for it. The only nearest choice is at Puncak Inn but we decided to just went down the hill to find food instead.

Almost all the attractions were closed. I guess it’s not holiday season, that’s why they don’t bother to open it.

Nevertheless, I did enjoy the nature photography here. Took these with my almost 8 years old Canon IXUS 80 IS.

Left: Monkeys everywhere! More monkeys than human hahaha… They seemed to be moving from one location to another. I’ve not seen so many of them before. It’s amusing to see them moving around via the cables rather than on the ground.

Right: One of the attractions, Allan’s Water. It was closed that time.

We just drove around and went down as there’s not much things there to see and do. However, if you would like to enjoy the nature and peace and quiet, this is a place to go especially during normal days. There’s many resorts for you to stay. Don’t expect anything else. I’m not sure about the holiday season but I think it should be rather happening.

At least, I’ve been here after learning about it back then in primary school. Another destination in Malaysia visited.

First World Hotel & Plaza

Posted on October 22, 2015October 24, 2015 By sweet surrender No Comments on First World Hotel & Plaza

Get to revisit Genting Highlands and stayed a night there. Good thing the hotel is refurbished… Phew… Stayed here back in 2008.

Left: As with almost 10 years ago, the lobby is still the same except now with a lot of self check-in and out machines. Such big hotel, you really need those. Salute those people maintaining and running the property. Not an easy job.

Right: The newly refurbished room. The bed and pillows were more comfy and the duvet is much better now too. Got the standard room located at the old wing.

The toilet configuration is really up to your luck. We had two different setups.

Left: The toilet, shower, and sink were all in one space. Normal configuration of any hotel room’s bathroom.

Two on the right: Toilet, shower, and sink were located separately at a corner. Same as the one I stayed in 2008.

The former was more comfortable to use, the latter was not that convenient and very narrow. I cannot imagine people who are very big size to squeeze into that tiny toilet and shower. I’m so petite and was feeling the space constraint already, cannot imagine really…

Another downside is the shower in general. The shower temperature was hard to adjust, a little adjustment can make a huge difference.

Oh! No view too. You’ll be seeing windows of another side hahaha… Who cares… Nothing can be seen at night anyway.

We requested for non-smoking floor, good thing we got it, at least our rooms were not smelling of cigarette. However, the corridor… Goodness… People just don’t care! They smoked there. So uncivilized.

I love how they have a water dispenser around the corner for refilling drinking water.

Overall, I’m satisfied with the stay. Cleanliness was there so it’s good.

Paying USD3.82 for these two rooms is a very good deal already. Hehehe… Total was USD28.82, I had enough points from one of the Online Travel Agent to get enough discount. Why waste? Of course utilize the benefit.

The new wing. Pay a bit more and you can get rooms at this wing. I was just too calculative to pay a bit more even though I had massive discount already. I was just praying high and low that the old wing’s rooms were refurbished. Took the risk and phew… Lucky!

Nothing change here… Still the same old same old when I came here for the first time in 2008.

A candy shop. Had fun seeing them making the candy.

Didn’t do much there but just walk around. We called it a night at around 8pm.

Breakfast at Nyonya Colors. Took the set. None of them in the photo on the left we liked… Tasted so-so. Very expensive breakfast. The only thing I like was the half-boil egg but it’s very expensive. Oh well… What to expect eating here? That’s their price range. I don’t remember how much but was definitely paying double to triple of the usual kopitiam‘s price.

After breakfast, we check-out. We drove down with very minimal visibility due to the fog. First time experience such fog. Rather scary but we reached the lower part of the mountain unscathed.

Goodbye Genting. Till I see you again but don’t know when LOL!

Restoran Chuan Kie ( 全记小菜馆)

Posted on October 6, 2015October 7, 2015 By sweet surrender No Comments on Restoran Chuan Kie ( 全记小菜馆)

When we were at Genting, we went to Restoran Chuan Kie (29-30, Jalan Jati 1, Goh Tong Jaya, Genting) for lunch. Seems like a popular place to go for food, so we went to try it out too.

Left: Business is so good that they have to extend to next door.

Right: Their signature crispy fried pork (RM16), very crispy, the sauce is sweet and slightly salty. Something different. Great to go with white rice. Taking it alone is a bit too sweet due to the sauce. However, the more you eat, the more salty it gets.

Left: Another signature dish of theirs, tofu aka beancurd (RM16). Nothing special, just tasted as it should.

Right: Four Heavenly Kings (RM12), stir fried mix vegetables with garlic, dried shrimp, and chili. There’s winged bean, french bean, and eggplant. Hmm… Where’s the fourth vegetable? Chili? *LOL* This dish is nicely cooked, the vegetables were not overcook, very crunchy.

Overall, I’ll consider it as average, at least for the food we ordered. Total bill came up to RM55.65 inclusive of a pot of tea and three plates of rice.

Genting Strawberry Leisure Farms

Posted on September 23, 2015September 30, 2015 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Genting Strawberry Leisure Farms

I have no idea there’s a strawberry farm in Genting Highlands until last week. Went there for a visit. Not big, not too small. Not only strawberry but flowers and vegetables. Cannot compare with Cameron Highlands of course.

Source from gentinghighlands.info

The Genting Highlands Strawberry Leisure Farm is a popular tourist attraction in Gohtong Jaya, nestled directly at town opposite the Mawar and Bunga Raya Apartments. The farm can easily be reached by taking left from the roundabout past Hotel Seri Malaysia (if coming from Karak Highway), and following the road all the way to its end. Strawberries are not the only cultivations – mushrooms, herbs, flowers and hydroponic vegetables are also grown here commercialy in adjoining nurseries. Besides the farm’s marketplace, visitors can also purchase strawberries by plucking them directly and paying by weight from 100gm onwards – this is a very popular family activity.

Once we got in, we could smell strawberries!

In fact, my first time seeing strawberry plant, I’ve never been to one in OZ last time 😛 Wanted to go but ended up didn’t find the place.

Address: No. 1, Lot 3707, Jalan Jati 2, Bandar Gohtong Jaya, Genting Highlands, 69000 Genting Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia

Bought a box of strawberry there for RM15, I heard Cameron’s is cheaper and tastes better. The one we bought at the farm was tasteless…

Tried the strawberry milkshake (RM11.55), I like! Very refreshing.

Walked further in, we found Lavender farm.

Previously in Adelaide, I didn’t get to visit Lavender farm because that time was summer and that area was closed due to fire hazard. Never thought that I would visit one. Well… Cannot compare of course but at least this is my first time come so close to so many lavenders. During the previous Perth trip, I only went to the shop selling lavender products, only a few lavender plants there.

Aside from strawberry and lavender, other flowers were there too such as rose, morning glory and those that I have no idea of the names. There’s also shops selling souvenirs and tid bits along the way before heading out.

Not to forget the mushroom farm.

Oh! Entrance is RM8 per adult.

That’s all for now. Hope the haze will go away soon! It’s making people sick…
