Convenience Stores in Japan

Posted on March 10, 2019March 7, 2019 By sweet surrender 1 Comment on Convenience Stores in Japan

When it comes to Japan, the first thing that will come to my mind is its convenience stores. It is extremely convenient! You can find it everywhere! You don’t even need to worry about not having anything to eat or if you run out of some daily necessities. Not only that, paying bill, withdraw money, doing banking, printing, faxing and etc. are also part of the things you can do in there.

When I was in Japan last year in August, my first meal was gyoza that I bought from 7-Eleven. It was almost midnight when I reached the hotel. Was feeling kind of hungry and my travel companion suggested to go to the nearest convenience store to buy food. They will heat the food up for you.

All these food here in this post were almost our everyday meals *LOL* Very affordable and delicious. You don’t even need to go to a restaurant for food. If you are travel with tight budget, you can be assured that the convenience stores in Japan will not let you go hungry. So many choices to choose from.

The major convenience store brands in Japan are 7-Eleven, Lawson, and Family Mart. You can find them everywhere! We spent a lot of time in these shops too because there were so much to see in there. Just looking at the instant noodles and snacks varieties was enough to make us went “wow, wow, wow”.

It’s a must-go when you are in Japan and it’s going to help those who like to enjoy Japan without burning a big hole in their pockets.

Portable 4G WiFi for Taiwan and Japan (Airport Pickup)

Posted on March 2, 2019March 11, 2019 By sweet surrender 1 Comment on Portable 4G WiFi for Taiwan and Japan (Airport Pickup)

Before I start my Japan travel blog posts, I’m going to share this 4G WiFi I used when I go to Taiwan and Japan last year. I bought them from Klook. I opted to collect them at the airport since I’m living in Kuching, there is no way I can go to the respective offices in West Malaysia to collect and they also do not provide shipping of the device to this part of Malaysia. Nevertheless, it was effortless to collect at the airport. All you need to do is go the the shop/kiosk located at the airport to collect them.

For Taiwan, I collected it at the arrival floor of the Taipei Taoyuan airport. Just show them your passport, printed or mobile voucher, pay deposit which they will charge to your credit card, then they will return you the deposit when you return the device. It works great without any problem at all. We had at least 5 devices connecting to it each time and battery life was pretty amazing. We charged it every night. This is the one I purchased, 4G WiFi (TW Airport Pick Up) for Taiwan. I do not have photo of it though, forgot to take picture of it.

For Japan, I collected it at KLIA2 at Roaming Man shop. Also fast and easy. Show your proof of purchase and passport. I don’t think there was deposit being collected though(if I recall correctly, it’s was over half year ago! ;p). You will get your unit and you are ready to go! Oh ya, it won’t work in Malaysia even if you switch it on, so save the battery. Only switch it on when you arrive Japan. The battery lasted very long! We were out whole day, using it, not a single problem at all. The signal was good. We only need to charge it after using it for 2 days and we have at least 3 devices connected to it at any one time. We were in Osaka, Kyoto, and Kobe.

This is the one I bought, here’s the link to check it out, 4G WiFi (MY Airport Pick Up) for Japan.

Overall, I have good experience with them. Feel free to check them out at Klook.

First Experience with Emirates

Posted on February 15, 2019February 16, 2019 By sweet surrender No Comments on First Experience with Emirates

We flew with Emirates in July 2018 to the UK. From Kuching to Kuala Lumpur with Malaysia Airlines, then from Kuala Lumpur to Dubai to Newcastle with Emirates. It’s my first time transiting in Dubai International Airport.

We had plenty of time there and we came across ice cream carts!! FREE ice cream with compliments from Emirates in conjunction with summer travel period between 15 June to 31 August 2018 at Terminal 3 departure and transit areas. Oh my! It was such a surprise. There were so many flavours to choose and I went for Mango Sorbet, very refreshing. We also tried the lemon Sorbet and it was SOUR, seriously sour!! Hahaha… Vanilla was just vanilla ;p

The ice cream, Emperor, is only served in premium classes on selected flights to Europe and the UK, and in the seven Emirates lounges at Dubai International Airport. It was great to be able to taste them at the airport because there is no way I could have access to the premium classes and the lounges.

Ok, now onto the plane. It’s not an extensive review, just in general based on my own experience. I was surprised to be greeted by air stewardesses with glasses! That sure was something that I didn’t expect. It’s pretty cool though because the air in the plane is dry and long hours of contact lens usage will hurt your eyes in long run. This is obvious that they do care for their crews’ well-being. My experience with them was good except one air steward who forgot about my instant noodle hahaha… But I don’t blame him, he was so busy tending to many other guests with all sort of requests.

It’s my first experience with Emirates A380. Look at the food! It’s been quite awhile not getting different type of airline food. I really have enough of nasi lemak or chicken rice or noodle *LOL* Those of you who always fly with our national carrier will surely have the same feeling hahaha…

Left: Even the cutlery! Not plastic! Imagine how suaku I was when I saw it, it’s been a long time not seeing such utensils inflight especially in economy class 😛 oh well… I’ve never flown other classes that’s why so suaku.

Right: Seriously, not many airlines served instant noodle hehehe… OMG! Instant noodle just tasted so good inflight! When I saw this on the menu, I was determined to order it after breakfast was served haha… I dislike the breakfast served… If not mistaken it’s some cold sandwich which I only had a bite ;p Anyway, I guess the instant noodle was only available on the flight to Malaysia or Asian countries.

For the leg room, I was on A380, the width and legroom was quite comfortable for me. It’s by far the spacious of all the other airlines I’ve flown. The toilet was well-equipped too.

Overall, I’m glad I’ve experienced the service of Emirates. It’s my first time and also the first middle eastern airline that I’ve experienced, I’m impressed. In fact, I did consider going to their cabin crew interview back then when they conducted it in Kuching hahaha… Anyway, it didn’t happen hehehe…

Finally! Done my UK trip post!! On to Japan trip posts soon!!!

G. Bolam Foods, The Full Monty Restaurant

Posted on February 12, 2019February 12, 2019 By sweet surrender No Comments on G. Bolam Foods, The Full Monty Restaurant

We wanted to stock up some meat and we went to G. Bolam Foods (Sedgefield Industrial Estate, Salters Lane, Sedgefield, County Durham TS21 3EE) for it. Before we shop, we had lunch at its restaurant(The Full Monty Restaurant) for lunch.

So many people dined there, really no nonsense at all! Packed! Young and old, people from all walks of life.

We ordered beef and pork carvery set(£6.15/set) which came with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, mashed potato, carrot & turnip, and cabbage drenched with rich beef gravy all in one plate. That one plate of goodness can be shared among at least 6 small eaters or 4 average eaters.

It was such a satisfying meal! Meat lovers will definitely won’t miss it.

After our lunch, we went to the get our meat. Didn’t get to take any photo of the place though. Camera not allowed if not mistaken. Not just meat that you can get, there’s also bread, cheese, fish, fruits, vegetables, seasonings, and cooking tools too. All under one roof. So much to see! I can spend at least 1 hour there!

Ok… This is the second last post of my July 2018 UK’s trip. It sure is taking a long time to finish. One last one is sharing with you about the airline I used to fly to the UK. Can’t wait to start blogging about my August 2018 Japan trip hahaha…

Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire

Posted on February 3, 2019February 1, 2019 By sweet surrender No Comments on Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire

Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a seaside town in North Yorkshire, England. We went there specifically to eat fish and chips hahaha…

After we parked our car, we noticed there’s a garden there called the Saltburn Valley Gardens.

A popular place for young and old to enjoy the nature. The paths and tracks are equipped with seats at frequent intervals.

The walk is likely to be suitable for people with impaired mobility or with a pushchair, wheelchair or mobility scooter. There’s also a playground for the kids. The circular walk is approximately 2 miles in length (3.2km)There is also tea room in the Valley Gardens but it was already closed when we were there.

After the walk, came out from the garden, we walked towards Saltburn beach.

Here, you can see Saltburn beach and Hunt Cliff.

We stopped by for ice cream and I highly recommend the ice cream from this shop, Surfs Up( Foreshore Buildings Lower Promenade, Saltburn-by-the-Sea TS12 1HQ, UK).

Saltburn Pier is the only pleasure pier on the whole of Northeast England and Yorkshire coast. The 1,500 feet (460 m) pier opened in May 1869. We didn’t walk to the end of it because the sea breeze was just too cold(for us… :p) even though it’s summer that time.

The place where we wanted to get the fish and chips was not opened on that day. In fact many were not open. The only place that was opened was The Seaview Restaurant. Supposed to just get a simple fish and chips and to enjoy eating it while looking out of the sea, we ended up at The Seaview Restaurant, the price of the food were more expensive of course.

We ordered Cod and Chips(small-£8.80); Haddock and Chips(small-£12.50); and Smoked Salmon & Prawn Salad(£12.95). Really love the chips, it’s chunky, not shoestring or crinkle cut, and fried to perfection.

After dinner, it’s time to head back. Still trying hard to finish this trip post hahaha… Two more post to go… A porky meal and my experience on Emirates before I start with my Japan trip posts.

Chinese New Year coming soon! Follow my Instagram for frequent updates. I will not have access to my laptop for about a week by then. There won’t be any post during that period of time. See you in Pig Year! 😉
