Miri Trip – Part 5(8/10/07)

Posted on October 15, 2007October 16, 2007 By sweet surrender 15 Comments on Miri Trip – Part 5(8/10/07)

After Eastwood Valley, my friend brought us to a very nice place, there’s an old golf course there, further up there a place where they known it as the middle of the sea. Hmmm… Many poeple like that place lot. It’s a place where the anglers like. The view is quite nice. That explains why I have so many photos of it hehehe… It’s not excatly a beach, don’t know how to explain. I saw it from my hotel room everyday day and I told myself that I should go there but hahaha… It’s quite far and have no idea how to go πŸ˜›

When we reached there, then I realised this is the place that I’ve been seeing everyday! Finally… The surrounding isn’t very nice but when you are there you can feel peace… I don’t know how to explain, it’s like the whole load of your stresses and burdens just gone away.

What is that small building? Hehehe… I have no idea…

View of South China Sea.

The city can be viewed from here.

Another view… At the far end, see the right end of the photo, there’s actually a place for seafood and there’s a very big seahorse there. You can climb up and view the sea from there. It’s too far, can’t capture it with my camera hehehe…

Left: On our way to Taman Awam Miri, we passed by Pelita Tunku. According to my friend, this is the earliest shopping complex in Miri.

Right: Taman Awam Miri(Miri Public Garden), it’s fondly known as the “hanging bridge” as there’s a hanging bridge there.

Left: Part of the garden.
Right: The bridge.

More of the bridge hahaha…

Left: See the slides below? It’s a public pool for the children to play in the evening.
Right: The walking path for evening stroll with your love ones.

Left: After the garden, we went to the airport. This is the departure hall.
Right: We were the 5th and 6th to check-in. WOW! My first time sitting at the front row of economy class hehehe… Too bad… No window seat this time… Sucks…

Manage to take some photos as the leg room is quite big in the front row, so could take some photos using zoom without distracting the guy sleeping at the window seat. The ride was quite bumpy due to the clouds and because of that the landing was delayed. We’re circling the sky for quite a while before getting the permission to land.

DONE! Phew… My 3 days in Miri…

Miri Trip – Part 4(8/10/07)

Posted on October 14, 2007October 13, 2007 By sweet surrender 4 Comments on Miri Trip – Part 4(8/10/07)

The last day in Miri. My friend was supposed to go to work but he was “chased” home by his manager because they said that he’s not fully recover yet and don’t want the chicken pox virus to spread to other people in the office as he was infected by another colleague of his that went back to work four days after his chicken pox hahaha… He has nothing to do and decided to bring us around before sending us to airport. I thought I will be ready by 10.30am but apparently there are some packings that need to get done. He was there before 10.30am already, I didn’t know and told him to go to the hotel at 11am -.-” Finally checked out before 11am.

He drove us around Miri. We have to reach the airport before 1.20pm. So we still have few hours to tour around. First stop, he brought us to Canada Hill where you can see the Grand Old Lady up there hahaha… Funny name right?

The view from Canada Hill. Other area rained heavily already but not Miri city center yet. Actually it’s drizzling already. So… This is the place that I’ve been seeing all these while from my hotel room. I was wondering what was that place and I wanted to ask the room service people but hehehe… I didn’t ask at the end.

The first old well in Malaysia. The grand old lady that is! Hehehe… Does it looks like the an old lady? Hehehe… I guess so… The top is like the hat and the whole structure shape is like a lady wearing the victorian style gown. πŸ˜›

Left: This is… What? I have no idea, something to do with oil drilling also.
Right: The fountain, it depicts the molecules of petroleum. Remember your Chemistry? I don’t really remember, they’re called molecules or atoms? Hahaha…

The Petroleum Museum, you need to pay RM2 per entry. We didn’t go in after hearing that we need to pay to go in *LOL* Also we dont have the luxury of time, there are few more places to go before we catch our plane. If we had the time, I might consider paying the RM2 and took my sweet time there.

I didn’t know that there’re actually restaurant there operating at night. You can see the night view of Miri city centre. Very romantic place but at the same time you are feeding the “vampires”. πŸ˜›

Then, my friend brought us to Eastwood Valley, a place for golfers.

Golf course and the man made lake. You can paddle the boats there πŸ˜› I think you have to pay, nothing is free. They also have accommodations there. People like to use this place for seminar, meeting or conference.

The platform. They are making new platform or they are repairing it? Not so sure.

Left: More view of the golf course.
Right: You can dine there while facing the lake.

The last part of Miri trip will come soon… I had to split day 3 into two parts as there are too many photos.

Imperial Hotel, Miri – Palm Terrace Cafe

Posted on October 13, 2007November 26, 2007 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Imperial Hotel, Miri – Palm Terrace Cafe

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to all my Malay friends and readers. Hmm… Where’re all my Malay friends? I miss the Raya visiting thing… Where are you? Lost contact with them already.

I had my breakfast at Palm Terrace Cafe on the 5th floor. Self-service, buffet style. The breakfast time is 6.30am-10.30am.

The entrance and the interior.

Left: Nasi lemak section.
Right: Salad, bread, pastries, oatmeal, cornflakes…

Left: Main courses ranging from noodle to rice to potato wedges…
Right: Make your own sandwich section.

Fruits and salads.

Fruits(hahaha… lazy to re-edit πŸ˜› duplicated photo) and pastries.

Left: Various type of jams for breadspread.
Right: The decor, very nice… I like it! Quite unique, every cylinder has different type of noodle.

For two mornings I had my breakfast here. Some of the food were really tasty, some don’t. I don’t like the pastries, other food weren’t that bad.

Left: This is where you can request for sunny side up or omelette. Also there will be different noodle dish everyday. One the first day, it was prawn noodle. I thought it was laksa *LOL*, I didn’t finish it. Didn’t really like it and I was full already. The second morning is tomyam beehon, I didn’t try it as I was quite full already and they’re almost closed.

Right: My day 1 breakfast. Hot chocolate from the Nescafe self service machine, cream mushroom soup(not nice), waffle with honey, mushroom, ham, fried rice, and seafood lasagna. I only tried a bit of each. There were still more but not what I like so I didn’t take.

My second round was salad and mango juice. The prawn noodle that I thought was laksa hahaha… Only ate a bit and couldn’t eat anymore, at the same time I also had milk tea from the Nescafe self-service machine.

These were what I had the second morning. The Chinese herb chicken soup was so nice… Very thick and the meat was tender and juicy. Then I also had chicken wing(so tough and tasteless, I only had a bite), hash brown(not nice), sausage, lamb rendang, ham and cheese bread, Thai style egg, and some pastries(so sweet and not nice). That morning I had a glass of mango juice and hot mocha(LOL… I don’t drink coffee, just wan to try and didn’t finish it hehehe…). There were many leftover from me on the second morning πŸ˜› Wasted…

That’s all about my breakfast. I had my brakfast after 9am so not peole there already on the first day. The second day, only me and Jimmy hahaha…

Imperial Hotel, Miri – Room & Facilities

Posted on October 12, 2007October 12, 2007 By sweet surrender 4 Comments on Imperial Hotel, Miri – Room & Facilities

It’s been a while not blog hopping. So busy… So many things need to do πŸ™

I’ll update my day 3 soon, still can’t find time to edit and resize the photos. I’ll blog about the hotel I’m staying first.

I stayed in Imperial Hotel in Miri. It’s recommended by Jimmy’s friend and also the rate is quite OK for a 4-star hotel. This is the only hotel that has promotional rate that I could find. If it’s not promotional rate it would be much more expensive. The room I’m staying is RM150++ per night inclusive of breakfast. There’re 5% GST and 10% service tax. For 3 days and 2 nights, I paid RM345.

Left: King size bed!
Right: The desk and TV. I just got to know that Miri has no NTV7.

Left: Bath tub.
Right: You see me? πŸ˜›

Left: Toilet bowl hahaha…
Right: This is the first time I see iron and ironing board in the room. There’s a safe of course and the hairdryer is not in the bathroom. Before this, all the hotels I stayed have hairdryers fixed in the bathroom. This is the first time I didn’t find any bathrob in a hotel room.

Left: Complimentary drinks.
Right: Some stationeries.

Views from my room! I stayed at the 7th floor, at the end of the wing. This is where I decide where to go in Miri hehehe…

Left: Leading to my room.
Right: Leading to the gym, swimming pool, coffeehouse, sauna, changing room, and aerobic room. I didn’t know I need to register to use the swimming pool. I was wondering where did those people get the towels hahaha… Only noticed it after I’m done with my swim session. This is where to get it, the room on the left.

Left: The lockers.
Right: The swimming pool. The wind was always very strong, so cold. Hahaha…

The views from the swimming pool on the 5th floor. Same view as my room.

The sauna.

This hotel is recommended if you are going to stay in Miri city centre. There are also suites which have kitchen, living room and bedrooms. The promotional rate for the suite is RM150++ for one bedroom without breakfast. The good thing is that internet is available in every room! You just need to bring your network cable. The lobby has WiFi. The staff are helpful and attentive.

The check-in time is 3pm and check-out time is 12am. They will give you rush room if you reach ther early. I got a rush room at 9am+. Well… That’s what they called it πŸ˜› I’m not sure what it is hehehe…

This is my first time staying at a hotel alone and my first time fully utilise the swimming pool and sauna facility.

Just one complain… It’s not sound proof πŸ˜› I think most hotels are like this, at least so far I haven’t come across any. Oh well… 5-star maybe but don’t think I can even afford it *LOL* Even 4-star, if not because of the promotional rate, I won’t be staying here.

I will blog about my breakfast at the coffee house soon.

Miri Trip – Part 3(7/10/07)

Posted on October 10, 2007October 11, 2007 By sweet surrender 7 Comments on Miri Trip – Part 3(7/10/07)

Oh dear… No wonder my face is so itchy. The skin on my face is flacking now! -.-” Sun burn… Lesson to learn… Don’t walk without any protection under the afternoon sun, Umbrella is important even if you have all those UV filtering stuffs on your skin, you still need umbrella!

Went for breakfast at the hotel coffee house(will talk about it in other post). I took my sweet sweet time to eat my breakfast hehehe… I was still quite tired, didn’t really sleep well as I always have problem with hotels’ air-conditioning. I was thinking of staying in my room the whole day, too lazy to go out. After breakfast, I went back to my room for shower. Then it’s about 11am+, I looked out of the window to see where else I should go or just stay in the room. Then I remember my other friend who’s joining the same event as Jimmy told me that the stadium is near the hotel, about 10 minutes walk only. Just followed the direction of post office and TM.

I remembered also the bellboy did mention something about City Fan in the map. I was so curious about what was it all about. I thought it’s some sort of windmill *LOL* I decided to venture out at the end though my legs were still painful.

I walked to the post office direction and came across the flower garden of Miri(left). I thought of going in but then changed my mind, thinking that I would visit it on my way back since it’s so near to the hotel. At the end… I didn’t hehehe… as I used another road and totally forget all about it.

I walked, walked, walked and I saw a building(right).

I was quite relunctant to go there but at the end I went in as I saw some activities going around that day, book exhibition and some sort of jumble sales. I didn’t know that Miri City Fan is just next to the Miri Civic Centre!! πŸ˜›

After looking around, I was thinking of getting out of the building to hunt for City Fan. Then… I saw the small park at the side, I thought maybe I should just walked over to have a look as I have plenty of time.

LO & BEHOLD! I saw a buidling(left)! The architecture was quite nice. Then the small park was actually a very big park that leads to that building!

I saw the signboard and I realised that I’m in City Fan!!! Oh my! What a luck! If I didn’t walk into Civic Centre, didn’t go over to the “small” garden, I would ended up back at the hotel! πŸ˜› Hahaha…

I walked towards the building and at the same time took some photos around. I still couldn’t figure out what kind of building was that. Something strucked me… I think it’s a library! Hahaha…

Continue snapping photos. Seahorses again. There are gardens with different themes there, I could only recall the Chinese and the Islamic ones.

Left: Miri Public Swimming Pool.
Right: Just a fountain.

The library! Hahaha… I’m so tempted to go in because of the air-conditioning πŸ˜›

Left: I forgot what this is called πŸ˜› It’s in the map too and I thought it’s real lighthouse near the sea but it’s just a structure(have lights at night of course) in the middle of the roundabout *LOL*

Right:The stadium.

Left: Indoor stadium where Femine 30 Hungry For Hope was held. The participants were required to fast for 30 hours, they could only drink water. Jimmy and one of my friends from Miri joined it. You can read more about it in Jimmy’s blog or English version in CatsCity.net

Right: The Islamic theme garden that marks the end of Miri City Fan. Hahaha… It’s not a fan or windmill, how silly could I be…:P

Out of City Fan, saw a signboard and just took a photo of it for no reason hahaha…

Then, I continue walking again as I saw Imperial hotel already! Hehehe… There’s a short cut actually but I opted for the longer road which is the main road. The short cut seems very quiet with lots of bushes. *SCARY* Must not take that road. I passed by the mosque(right) on my way back.

Finally reached the hotel. Went to my room to rest for a while. Then decided to have my lunch in Imperial Food Court(I think this is the name :P) that was closed the other night. Too tired to go any place. Ordered sweet & sour chicken rice(RM3) from one of the stall called Hainan Chicken Rice. I noticed that many eateries in Miri are Halal unlike Kuching.

After my lunch, I walked around Imperial Mall and explored the shops that I didn’t manage to explore the night before. I noticed that almost every shopping complexes in Miri have one shop specialised in sex/adult toys πŸ˜› Hehehe… You dont find them in Kuching shopping complexes.

Back to my room at about 3pm+. Wanted to charge my camera but there’s no socket for the two-pin plug that my charger needs. Tried so many ways to get it in but all couldn’t work. My camera could still last tru’ the night so I’m not so worry. I continued to online and room service came, I let them do their work while I online and the lazy me actually asked them for a multi-plug and they got it for me hehehe… Who knows!??!?! It couldn’t be use, I thought it’s spoilt so I told the room service lady and she passed it over to her supervisor. Her supervisor tested it and came back to say that the plug was fine, so I tried it together with her and still couldn’t be used. We concluded that the socket was spoilt and she called the maintenance department.

I was thinking of going for swim at 4.30pm and because of that I waited for the maintenance guy to come. They came at around 4.30pm, fixed it about 15 minutes later. Then after they left, I quickly changed and go for my swim and sauna hahaha πŸ˜› So enjoy! I’m paying for it what?!?!?

At night, Jimmy new found friend agreed to bring us around Miri for dinner and tour Miri. He brought us to Pelita Hai Ma Food Court or the area is fondly known as 2020 because of the coffeeshop nearby called 2020 hahaha… Pelita Hai Ma Food Court is open 24 hours with various type of food serve ranging from Western to Chinese food.

I was craving for western food… So I ordered mixed grill(left), only RM15, protion quite big, I think it’s quite reasonable. It consists of fish fillet, lamb chop(very tender and juicy) and chicken fillet. I didn’t finish the fried fish fillet and the baked beans. πŸ˜›

Jimmy ordered clay pot pork leg rice(RM5). This crazy guy actually ordered such filling and greasy food after starving for 30 hours. I’m sure his stomach would have problem digesting it. At the end he couldn’t finish his food. Wasted…

After dinner and chatted with another friend of Jimmy that came to join us later, his new found friend took us for a ride and drove up to the new flyover of Miri hahaha… He drove us to Pujut, Piasau, Lutong, Luak Bay etc. too many places(I couldn’t recall where else), basically cover the whole Miri. Oh my! Curtin is so far away!!! It was dark so nothing much can be seen. We also passed by many “castles”. Hahaha.. Those houses(we rather refer it as castles) were so HUGE! Compounds are HUGE too! Goodness gracious… Miri is the place for you to see huge ass houses that cost more than millions or even billions.

At about 11pm+ he sent us back to hotel. So tired… That’s day 2 of my Miri trip. I practically dragged my feet the whole journey -.-” Couldn’t walk properly hahaha…
