Category: Finding Myself – Adelaide

My journey in discovering myself in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia while fulfilling my dream to study overseas.

The Clovey

Posted on June 27, 2012June 27, 2012 By sweet surrender No Comments on The Clovey

Took us quite awhile to decide where to have dinner 3 Saturday nights ago. Finally we ended up at The Clovey since my friends said that he had not tried out the food here. Usually just had drinks here. It’s located at The Clovercrest Hotel, 450 Montague Road, Modbury North SA 5092.

The atmosphere wasn’t bad. There’s live band playing. There’s a dance floor as well.

The place was packed! Lucky us that we managed to get a table. The appetizers are free flow, just take anything you want at the salad bar. It’s my first time having meal at a hotel (many Australian pubs are indeed called an Hotel by their name, they used to have rooms upstair but nowadays most don’t, they just retained the “hotel” word on their name).

Left: I don’t quite remember the name -.-” It’s a lamb dish with vegetables. It was the night’s special. It cost less than AUD15.
Right: This is also the special of the night, Fish and chips, not the exact name but yea… It’s basically fish and chips hahaha… This is around AUD16 I think…

It’s been quite long ago. It’s not in the menu also. The taste? My lamb dish was quite dry but the potato was nice. The fish and chips was not bad. Don’t think will come back here for dinner. It just didn’t leave me with any strong impression, quite average. For drinking and hanging isn’t that bad though.

Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop

Posted on June 20, 2012June 21, 2012 By sweet surrender No Comments on Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop

Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop, our final destination for our Barossa Valley trip. We had to drive through very bad road to reach here because my friend’s GPS told him to use this way hahaha… So funny.

They came here for the ice cream! *LOL*

Two big pumpkins at the entrance. You can even sample the products.

From fruits to wines to sauces to cookies and more!

This is the said ice-cream. There’s many floavours but my friend recommended us this. Very nice indeed. Not cheap too, small container costs about almost AUD4.

Left: The sun was setting, very nice view behind the shop.
Rigth: On the way home.

That’s the end of the autumn trip. It’s winter now! Brrrr… Getting cold. Actually, it’s already cold ;p

Barossa Valley Autumn 2012 – Part 2

Posted on June 10, 2012June 12, 2012 By sweet surrender No Comments on Barossa Valley Autumn 2012 – Part 2

After lunch, we went to Saltram which is known for its No. 1 Shiraz.

There was a wedding going on that day.

Not only that, this place was quite packed too with people tasting and buying wine.

After that, we headed to Two Hands Wines.

No free tasting here. You have to pay, AUD5 and they will let you taste the range of wine they have and even its olive oil. You get to sit there and people will come pour you the wine and explain them to you.

The wine we tasted but I only tasted a few which I was interested, sharing with my friend because I got no intention to try more. Had been wine tasting the whole day.

Left: The wine glass.

Right: Wine portfolio.

Left: The most expensive wine and I ;p It’s 2009 Ares Shiraz (AUD165/bottle). Hmmm… To me, it’s just wine. However, it’s doesn’t suit my taste. It was a bit of let down in general.

Right: The best olive oil ever! McLaren Vale Extra Virgin Olive Oil. It’s not cheap too. AUD25/bottle. Looks like wine bottle and can be mistaken as wine if you didn’t pay attention.

Left: The two most expensive wine. Tried both. Prefer the one on the right. The one on the left is 2009 Ares Shiraz.

Right: The sweetest wine I ever had, Barossa Valley Cane Cut Semillon 2009 (AUD35). It’s very syrupy. Great for drizzling on desserts instead of just drinking it on its own. Also I think it’s great for mixing drinks too.

There you go… The journey of out food and wine tour. One more to go and that’s the end of it for now.

Sing Sing Chinese & Vietnamese Restaurant

Forgot to post this.

After our Hahndorf trip, we headed back to our friend’s house to play game while waiting for dinner time.

For dinner, we went to Sing Sing Restaurant at 60 Ridley Grove, Woodville Gardens, SA 5012.

Didn’t have Vietnamese food for awhile and we ended up here. The choice of food here is ALOT!

Since there’s only 2 of us, we only ordered two dishes.

Left: If not mistaken, this is pork hock in rice drop noodle soup (small, AUD8.50).

Right: Sliced beef rice noodle soup (small, AUD8.50). It tasted as it should *LOL* so it’s good.

The pricing is quite standard. Might come here to try out other food if have the chance.

Angaston Roaring 40’s Cafe

Posted on June 5, 2012June 6, 2012 By sweet surrender No Comments on Angaston Roaring 40’s Cafe

Ooopsss… Wrong labels on the photos ;p Should be “Angaston” not “Pensfolds” ;p Besides, I spelled it wrongly too hahah… Should be “Penfolds”.

Anyway, let’s continue our journey.

Before continuing our journey to taste more wine, we had to fill our stomach. Off we went to Angaston just for the best pizza in Australia! WOW! Can’t wait!

Not sure what’s this building. Should be a winery since this is a wine producing region.

So… Here we go… It’s quite a long drive though. We just followed our friend’s car. He knew the way, he went there before. He told us it’s the best pizza in town but he was wrong. You’ll know why later.

Love the views along the way, it’s autumn, leaves are turning orange, such amazing shades.

We are here, the cosy town where the best pizza restaurant is located. Who would expect it?

All these while we were told it’s the best in the town but apparently my friend was wrong! It’s the best in Australia and has been winning years after years of various F&B awards. The owner is 2009 best pizza maker in Australia!

It was packed! We had to wait but luckily it’s not a long wait for a table for 7.

While waiting for our food, we saw these on our table. Ice cream! So pretty! Didn’t try it though.

Here’s what we had:

Left: I think this should be large Caesar salad. There’s cos lettuce, bacon, croutons, pecorino cheese, pureed anchovies in egg mayonnaise ($15.90), not enough for 7 of us to share *lol*. Anyway, don’t have to worry because have 3 pizzas coming our way.

Right: Small Smokey Pizza (9-inch, $24). You’ll get tomato sauce, cheese, mettwurst, lachsschinken, shallots, schulz butcher‟s mallee gum smoked pork belly & smoked chicken on it.

Left: Best of the best S.A. Seafood (9-inch, $25). There’s tomato sauce, fresh char grilled squid, scallops, prawns & king fish with oregano & dill accompanied by mussels in coriander, chilli, lime juice & fish sauce, garnished with shavings of pecorino cheese. OMG!! Heavenly! Generous toppings. Loaded and there’s no way you can eat with just your fingers. Worth every single cents! Beware of the chillies though, I ate two tiny pieces, it’s extremely spicy! Seriously spicy, even us Malaysians got our tongues numbed by it.

Right: Damon’s Vindaloo Extreme (9-inch, $23). Tomato sauce, mushroom, capsicum, ‘Damon’s very spicy beef vindaloo’, topped with yoghurt & baby spinach on the pizza. This is very spicy too, it’s not toned down for the Aussies. It’s real deal spicy! Those of us who didn’t eat the chilli on the seafood pizza were overwhelmed by its spiciness but for us who accidentally ate the chilli, we felt nothing ;p not spicy at all.

All in all, the pizzas were awesome!!

Why do you want to dig that far?
