Wasai Japanese Kitchen

Posted on October 11, 2011October 11, 2011 By sweet surrender 3 Comments on Wasai Japanese Kitchen

Had farewell dinner with my one of my colleagues (who is also my coursemate) at Wasai last week. It’s a Japanese restaurant located at 9-15 Field Street, basically at Chinatown.

This is my very first Japanese food in Adelaide. We ordered Momoji(AUD105) to share among 4-5 people. It’s special selections of Wasai’s most popular dishes.

In fact, you can even share with 6 or 7 people if all of you are not very big eater. The most expensive dinner I had, I paid AUD30 for my portion which include 2 bottles of sake(shared among 10 people, if I recalled correctly) which I only drank a small cup. Soooo broke! It’s only beginning of October and AUD30 gone just for one meal… Oh well… It’s the company that counts. The most just have to be very careful in spending this month. What’s more last month overshoot my expenditure limit ;p

Left: The chili powder and soy sauce.
Right: Complimentary edamame was served.

Momoji consisted of…

Left: Deluxe Sushi + Sashimi Boat, goodness! It was so gooooooooooooooood… The shashimi was so fresh! Love it! Haven’t eaten any good Japanese food for so loooooooooooong.
Right: Agedashi Tofu, very soft and tasty. *slurp*

Left: Soba Salad, very nice too. OH! Everything was nice.
Right: Tempura consists of prawns, fish and assorted vegetables. All the ingredients were so fresh.

Left: Teriyaki Chicken. It was cooked to perfection.
Right: Seafood Miso Hotpot, it’s quite salty but it’s quite tasty. By the time this was served, we’re so stuffed already.

Overall, the food was good, at least my AUD30 (just don’t do the conversion ok?!? Hahaha…) for this meal was worth it. Highly recommded. Just too expensive for me… I really miss quality Japanese cuisine. At least this was good enough to fix my crave until don’t-know-when.

Steven ter Horst Chocolatier

Posted on October 5, 2011 By sweet surrender 1 Comment on Steven ter Horst Chocolatier

After dinner at Kopi Tim, we went for dessert at 221D Unley Road, There’s a shop called Steven ter Horst Chocolatier. The place is secluded, quite hard to find if you’re not a local in Adelaide or stay here long enough.

Finally get to go to a little cosy place to hang out. This place specialized in chocolate which claimed to use offer with the highest quality Belgian chocolate.

Left: So many chocolates!
Right: We ordered some tea. You can have single pot for AUD3.50 or double pot aka bigger pot to share for AUD5.50. You can get free refill. We had raspberry tea and also Earl Grey.

Left: Hot chocolate (AUD5.50 – small, AUD6.50 – large)
Right: OMG! Heavenly! The most delicious chocolate dessert I ever had. It’s quite sweet but not the kind of sweetness that can made you felt sick eating too much. Nuts About Chocolate (AUD7.50), there’s roasted almond, hazelbut daquoise, chocolate cremeaux decorated with chocolate chantilly. Just can’t get enough of it!

Lemon Lust (AUD7.70), lemon mousse dome, praline cream, cocoa sponge and toasted almonds. This is nice too. Sweet and sour. I love it also!

GOSH! I wanna have more!! Highly recommended.

Kopi Tim

Posted on October 3, 2011October 3, 2011 By sweet surrender 4 Comments on Kopi Tim

16th September 2011, it’s Malaysia Day. My two friends were very patriotic ;p they took a day off and went for lunch at a Malaysian restaurant in Rundle Mall.

Then at night, I joined them and they went to another Malaysian restaurant, Kopi Tim, located at 168 Gouger Street. *LOL* The food here isn’t very cheap -.-” chicken rice costs more than AUD10. Of course I won’t go for any food which are available at my workplace, every week see the same food also scare hahaha…

These were what we had:

Left: The interior.
Right: Grass jelly and herbal tea. Forgot the prices. By the way, I heard they don’t serve FOC water like any other places. You must order the bottled water.

Left: Rice.
Right: Salted Fish Bean Sprout (AUD13.90), stir fried bean sprout with salted fish in tasty sauce. GOSH! Can you believe eating such expensive bean sprout dish?!?! Even in Chinatown, I could get a packet for less than AUD1. Taste? Salted fish and bean sprout as it should taste *LOL*

Left: Sambal Okra (AUD13.90), okra in thick chili sauce. I really can’t help it, the most expensive okra/ladyfinger dish I had in my life! ;p The sambal was quite sweet but it was good.
Roght: The famous Kadazan Chicken (AUD16.90) of Kopitim. It’s deep fried chicken marinated with the chef’s special spices. YUM! I love this! Don’t remember how many pieces of chicken there. If I recall correctly, there should be 6 pieces.

Left: Sambal Squid (AUD16.90), the sambal was the same as the okra’s. I like this too even though it’s quite sweet.
Right: Curry Prawn, no idea how much because it’s not in the menu. Not bad too.

I don’t remember the exact total price but each of us paid about AUD18+ for 7 of us.

Overall, I won’t recommend the vegetable dishes because it’s too expensive. Even the À la carte dishes too. Not worth it. The prices here are quite steep and portion wasn’t big. Meat and seafood dish are okay I guess…

I don’t think I’ll come back unless I have too much money to spare.

Oporto

Posted on September 29, 2011September 29, 2011 By sweet surrender No Comments on Oporto

Oproto is no stranger to Australians. It’s an Australian franchise with over 140+ stores across Australia, New Zealand, UK, and China.

I saw it many times at City Cross but never thought of trying it out because I only went to Hungry Jack’s there ;p Only until I got the buy 1 burger and get 1 free burger voucher, I finally tried it.

After my last exam paper, I decided to reward myself. I ordered the Bondi Single Fillert Burger (AUD4.98). This is Oporto’s authentic, signature Bondi Burger with 1 fresh grilled chicken breast fillets, lettuce, cheese and mayo served with or without irresistible chilli sauce. I had it with the chili sauce.

Since I got the voucher, means I got two burgers for one price. I gave one to a friend who treated me for my birthday dinner.

The taste? The chili is a bit spicy but if for those who can’t stand a bit of spiciness, it can be rather spicy. The meat was tender and juicy. I would say the burger was kind of tasteless though. Didn’t taste much of the mayo too. Maybe I had too much of Hungry Jack’s *LOL*

KY Chow

Posted on September 28, 2011September 28, 2011 By sweet surrender 1 Comment on KY Chow

Again… Dinner after slaving away in the computer pool. For two continuous nights I had dinner at Chinatown. Actually this was the first night, the second night was at J Restaurant. Ky Chow serves Guangzhou food. It is located at 27, Gouger St. Went there with our newly met friend.

I got no idea what the actual name of the dishes and how much they were. I didn’t have my camera with me so only took it with my phone, had difficulty taking any good photos of the food. At the end I didn’t bother to take anymore. Here’s just some dishes we had, I think there’s 1 or 2 dishes that I didn’t have the photos.

We had almost all the sweet dishes.

Right: Chinese Fruit Hawthorn Pork ribs ($11.80), very sweet but I like it.

Left: Sweet and sour chicken, very sweet too. Nothing special with this though.
Right: Egg plant dish, it’s on the sweeter side too.

Left:Vegetable (I don’t know what is this vegetable called ;p) with garlic.
Right: Don’t remember what is this, I think it’s a fish dish. Also a dish that was sweet.

It was a sweet dinner *LOL* The total bill came up to AUD70+ for 5 people.
