Easy Crunchy Crab Stick Snack Recipe (Oven-Baked)

Posted on September 27, 2022September 27, 2022 By sweet surrender

I will share a crunchy crab stick snack recipe with you in this post. This snack is popular among Malaysian households in recent years during CNY, Raya, or Gawai. You can find it in many households.

I always failed when making this snack. It will go soft once it’s cold. The cooking process is tedious and messy with so much oil needed too. Hence, I decided to try to oven-bake it after I got my new oven (Samsung 28L Convection Microwave Oven with Slim Fry SAM-MC28M6035KW) and it works! No need to worry about oil splatters and use very little oil. You know cooking oil is bloody expensive now! Not healthy to eat too much deep-fried food too.

The only problem with oven-baking is that you have to take time to arrange the crab stick strips on the tray one by one to ensure that it doesn’t overlap with each other. This takes time and if you want to make big batches, it will be very time-consuming.

You can also air-fry it but because the capacity of the air fryer is small, you can’t do it in a big batch. This will require more time. I’ve tried it with an air fryer before, but it’s not air-fried evenly because of the overlapping. The key is not to get it overlapped with each other.

I hope this video helps and happy trying!

Lastly, check out other CNY recipes for the coming celebrations. Hahaha! Not even Christmas and already preparing for CNY ;p

By the way, more recipes can be found on my YouTube channel too.

Tried & Tested Dr. Oetker Nona Moist Cake Chocolate Mix

Posted on September 20, 2022September 20, 2022 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Tried & Tested Dr. Oetker Nona Moist Cake Chocolate Mix

Was given a box of Dr. Oetker Nona Moist Cake Chocolate Mix early this year. it sure took me quite some time to have the mood to bake it. Here you go. It is very easy to make. Just follow the instructions on the box.

Then, I made it a little bit fancy by covering it with ganache. This is my first time making this kind of cake. Always see it online where people would poke the cake with lots of holes. Then, they poured the ganache onto the cake. Let the ganache make its way through the holes and you’ll get moist and rich chocolate cake. The chocolate would even flow out like lava.

Made the ganache with cooking chocolate and milk instead of cream. I thought it won’t work but it did. The consistency is just nice for it to flow into the holes. Here’s the video in case you want to make ganache without using cream.

Have you tried this brand of cake mix before? I’ve tried its Dr. Oetker Nona Buttermilk Pancake Mix (Buy here: https://invol.co/cl4ap37 ). Also, tried Dr. Oetker Nona Brownies (Marble) (Buy here: https://invol.co/cl8lio6 ) too.

Pan-Fried Banana Spring Roll Easy & Less Oil

Posted on September 11, 2022September 11, 2022 By sweet surrender No Comments on Pan-Fried Banana Spring Roll Easy & Less Oil

Saw this banana spring roll recipe in a magazine a few months back and decided to try it out. I happened to have too many bananas and leftover spring roll pastry sheets from CNY. The recipe is labeled as a vegan recipe in the magazine. However, as far as I know, vegan doesn’t eat cheddar cheese. I guess vegans can replace the cheese with a vegan-friendly one.

You can do this recipe in two different ways. Whichever suits you. This one here is just mashing and mixing everything together and pan-fry it.

The other way is to cut the ingredients into pieces and arrange them. It won’t make any difference to the taste or texture at all. You can’t see the arrangement too after it’s pan-fried.

Just be creative. You can have anything as the filling. If you want to find other recipes that use spring roll pastry sheets aka popiah skin, here are two that you might want to check out:
Oven-baked Crunchy Mini Popiah (post) or Air Fryer Crunchy Mini Spring Roll (video)
Seaweed Twist

Have fun making it.

Kuching Festival 2022 Live Cooking

Posted on August 17, 2022August 25, 2022 By sweet surrender No Comments on Kuching Festival 2022 Live Cooking

Went to Kuching Festival 2022 many times, yet didn’t get the chance to take a video of it. We’re always there for a short time just to get some takeaways for dinner and left. Also, by the time we’re there, it’s already packed. It’s so hard to take proper video or even to move around.

This video is a compilation of some live cooking that I managed to capture last week. It rained midway. Otherwise, there would be more. When the rain stopped, we were rushing to get our dinner and left as it was getting late and the crowd was pouring in.

How many times have you joined in the fun at the festival? I think I should be going there again one more time one of these days. Do check out my latest post of the festival on my Instagram if I did go again.

After Kuching Festival, the Mid-autumn Festival will take place at the Carpenter Street. It’s another round of gastronomy fun. We’ll see what I will be able to get there by then.

Kuching Festival 2022

Posted on August 12, 2022August 25, 2022 By sweet surrender 1 Comment on Kuching Festival 2022

Have you visited Kuching Festival at MBKS? After not having it for two years, it’s back this year. More stalls and more food. It started on 29 July 2022 and will end on 21 August 2022. I’ve been there 4 times. How about you?

Here’s the compilation of my visit. I foresee that I will be going there again for few more times because it’s pretty near to my place. I have everything updated on my Instagram. It is much more updated there than in this blog ;p

So far, what’s the best food had you tried? To me, I feel that the food from Pinoy’s stalls is quite OK. Quality is better compared to many other stalls. So far, most are so-so. Edible but don’t expect it to be super delicious. Plenty of “landmines” as well. You’ll just have to try them for yourself to know what’s good and what’s not. It’s pretty much based on personal preferences too.

The food there is not cheap. However, just buying what you can eat will do. We could easily fill our tummy for less than RM50. Plenty of food below RM10 that can be filling. If you are there to try all the fancy food and eat more than you can handle, then that’s another story.

It’s already packed as early as 4.30pm during the weekend. As for weekdays, the crowd fills up the place by 5pm. So do go early if you want to avoid the crowd and for nearer parking.

Blogging since 2002. Anything before 2006 is no longer available. It is no longer on this server. Back then, I built my own blog and updated it using HTML. No database or anything. Only started blogging fully with a CMS in 2006. However, whatever was on the Internet will stay on the Internet. So... It should be still somewhere on the Internet. Then again...
