Kuching Festival 2006(10) – Last Two Days

Posted on August 19, 2006 By sweet surrender No Comments on Kuching Festival 2006(10) – Last Two Days

The last two trip of food fair. We were there to celebrate Jimmy’s birthday. Will blog about this later.

Left: Scallop sushi(2 for RM4) and octopus sushi(2 for RM4). This is from the stall called Home Made Sushi.
Right: Sambal Deep Sea Stingray(RM6). It tasted OK with the sambal however the sambal wasn’t enough .

Johore Bahru Otak-Otak, RM0.80 each.
Hmmm.. tasted weird 😛 ahahah.. usually I see otak-otak in brownish or creamy white colour and this is the first time I saw red otak-otak. It’s minced fish meat with santan and it’s barbequed. It’s my first time ate this too.

This is Pandan Chicken from "Yi Yuan"(I’m not sure about there English name). It’s a Teochew restaurant here. It’s RM3 for eight pieces.

The food fair will end on 20th August. So tomorrow is the last day.

Kuching Festival 2006(9) – Supper

Posted on August 17, 2006 By sweet surrender No Comments on Kuching Festival 2006(9) – Supper

Went to Kuching Fest after dance class for supper.

Left: "Ji Ba"… Ok… don’t think so much! It’s not that foul word "cxbai". I heard that it’s Hakka traditional food. RM2 per box. It tasted like "muaci". "Muaci" has peanut powder/red bean paste etc. as the fillings and the outer layer texture is sticky and chewy. This is the opposite, the peanut powder is coated outside. The dough is sticky and chewy. Hmm… Many said it’s nice but nothing special to me.

Right: (L-R) "Yuan Su Ji Kuai"(direct tanslation to English for each word is "Salt Crispy Chicken Nuggets") LOL… I really don’t know what it’s called in English, fried squids and sweet potato sticks.

All used the same batter and deep fried. The fried squid is RM1.50 per sticks, chicken nuggets are RM2.50 per 100gram and sweet potato sticks are RM1.60 per 100gram. We bought 100gm chicken nuggets and 3 fried squids. All together is RM7. Hmmm… pretty expensive and portion is small.

Kuching Festival 2006(8) – Opening Ceremony

Posted on August 13, 2006March 21, 2007 By sweet surrender No Comments on Kuching Festival 2006(8) – Opening Ceremony

“Oh my… it’s so romantic darling! *MUAH* It’s so nice! Thank you very much!”
“*Down on his bended knee* Will you marry me my sweety pie?”
“Oh yes! My chuchu! I do!”
Then the couple sat there looking up the sky, kissing each other under night sky brightened by the fireworks!
Star light,
Star bright,
Let the fireworks,
Brighten up the night sky…
Isn’t it great?

HOLD ON THERE!! ROMANTIC? YOU CALL THAT ROMANTIC!?!? GOSSHHH! That’s ridiculous! You know some Cantonese dramas like to use this kind of scene? It’s misleading! It’s damn torturing! No fun! Neck pain! Looking up to the sky to see the fireworks, and the ashes and debris fell into your eyes, on your head, your face and your body. The sparks fell not far in front of you that might cause burnt if you are so unlucky that it fell on you. Then after the fireworks, you rub your face with a white tissue, you get shimmery greyish stained on the tissue. It’s worst if you are sweating or you have oily skin.

OK! There! This is my first close encounter with fireworks. Seeing it right on the spot instead of my bedroom window. It’s no fun I tell you. It really scares me and I was desperately looking for place to hide from the falling ashes and debris from the sky but then If I went into one of the huts in Hookien Garden, I couldn’t see the whole thing. Both my eyes experienced a bit of discomfort because of the ashes that fell into them. The debris fell on my shoulder and when I swept it off, it left black marks on my shoulders and I need to rub them off. Lots of poeple were quite desperate to find a place to hide from the falling ashes and debris too but couldn’t find a strategic place to see the full fireworks especially those that brought their children along. Wear goggle next time! 😛 I’m afraid no more next time for me!

The fireworks started after the minister offciate the festival. I forgot what time was it because I didn’t have a watch. It’s let off at the Hockey Stadium next to Hokkien Garden. We have a video for it and it’s still editting. Will post it up once I got hold of it.

Don’t get me wrong. I love fireworks very much but not so close to it. Fireworks are romantic but not this way. My idea of romantic fireworks is dining in a high rise building or high place, somewhere that allows you to see the city skyline, any city will do :P, and having candlelit dinner with my love one. After the dinner, we sit there looked out the window, in each other embrace and see the fireworks light up the night sky. That’s romantic LOL! Are you ready to puke? Go ahead 😛 haahhaha… I’m just a hopeless romantic.

This post comes with a video! YAY!! Video!!! I’m hosting it!!

PIKOM PC FAIR 2006 is held at Permata Car Park, 5th floor. It’s from 11-13 August. There are 41 companies take part with the total of 56 stalls.

Well… be frank with you, I don’t know I went there for what because I’m no longer interested in computer hardwares or electronics stuffs and I’m kind lost touch with it already summore I’m jinx! Don’t ask me what are the newest gadget in town or whatever, I DON’T KNOW!! If it’s not because of the assingment that required me to “host” our program 😛 I wouldn’t be going haahah… IT’s indorr and air-conditioned but it’s really hot! The air conditioning wasn’t storng enough and lots pf people too.

So… Enough of all that, here’s the video. It’s in Chinese. Sorry… But do have a look at what’s going on around. It’s a summary of the fair. Not much talking anyway. My face is big in there coz I stood too near to the camera 😛 Couldn’t help it, it’s too hot, I need to tie up my hair. I know many prefer me to have my hair down instead of tying it up hehehe…

Today is the 15th day of the seventh month of Lunar calender! It’s Ghost Festival which it’s believe that all the ghost will be released and roam on Earth. There’s two seventh months in this year’s Lunar Calender. Therefore they will be released twice. Next month is supposed to be the Mid Autumn Festival(Mooncake Festival) but there are two times of 7th month this year, so it will have to wait till the next next month to celebrate Mid Autumn Festival. That means, we have 13 months for the Lunar calender this year!!

In conjunction of the nearing of the Ghost Festival, Earth Dance performed a “ghost musical theater” for the opening dance of Kuching Festival Performance on Monday night.

The opening…

The rest of the programs:
