Mini Foodbuzzers Meet-up @ Mr. Ho’s Fine Foods

Posted on September 17, 2009September 17, 2009 By sweet surrender 6 Comments on Mini Foodbuzzers Meet-up @ Mr. Ho’s Fine Foods

First of all, this is 100% non-halal post.

Got invited by CW to join him, Nate and Annie for lunch at Mr. Ho’s Fine Foods yesterday. Of course I accepted it immediately. I knew Nate and Annie from Foodbuzz but never interact with them, only added them in my list ;p I knew they’re from the US but I didn’t expect them to come here to stay for 2 years.

It’s my first time meeting CW also, was supposed to be him few months back for the food tasting at The Banquet but he couldn’t make it.

I was late, I kept thinking the lunch was at 12.30pm, it should be 12.15pm. It was a porky lunch yesterday. Never in my life savour so much pork in one seating with various cooking methods. *GULP* Artery clogging! Hahaha…

I don’t have much details on the food and price though. I’ll just copy whatever Nate has in his Facebook ;p Just show you what we had:

Left: Walnut, ham and parmesan salad. Very appetizing. I like it.

Right: Mussels in cream sauce, oh la la… I love this!

Pork satay, the colour looks like the usual chicken satay we get at the hawker stalls hahaha… The meat is very tender and juicy. Quite nice.

Left: Four Seasons plate consisted of squid & prawn, roast pork, fried chicken, pork meatballs. Nothing much to rave about the thai style squid & prawn. Roast pork was sinfully tasty! I choked on the fat -.-” I didn’t expect the fat to melt in my mouth hahaha… The fried chicken was too salty for my liking. The pork meatballs were fine but I didn’t get to try the one with cheese in there.

Right: Fried rice, there’s bacon in there.

Left: CW’s favourite, Asian Pesto Pasta. I hate cilantro hahaha… However, it’s surprisingly yummy to have it in this pasta.

Right: Sausage platter, there’s two kind of sausages if not mistaken. Tasted not bad.

Our group photo. Pardon my hair ;p Hahaha… No time to dry it coz I was running late hehehe…

Annie, Me, CW, and Nate.

Nice to meet all of you and thanks CW for the lunch. We’ll arrange another session and I’ll bring some other local food bloggers and foodbuzzers along 😉

Singapore Trip: Day 5(21/8/09): Part 5: Bye Bye Singapore

Posted on September 16, 2009September 17, 2009 By sweet surrender No Comments on Singapore Trip: Day 5(21/8/09): Part 5: Bye Bye Singapore

Time to say bye bye to Singapore. Packing was hellish! Not because we shopped too much, we didn’t even shop but were “forced” to bring back all those things which caused my sis’ luggage to overshoot the weight quota. Luckily they didn’t fine her -.-” Phew…

Dragged our fully packed luggage(went there with only half the luggage empty) and hand luggage(went there with only some essentials in the hand luggage) all the way from Sembawang to the airport. It was horrible especially with my right hand feeling so painful since the night before. I relied on my left hand only. -.-”

Nothing much to say about the wait to board the plane but a lot to say about the passengers. I really don’t know how to say them.

There’s a group of uncles and couple of aunties, boarding the plane with lots of duty-free alcohols and musical instruments. As you know the seats were assigned when you check-in. You should just sit at your assigned seat. If you are given a seat at the emergency exit, it means you are qualified to sit there as only those that are deemed strong enough by the check-in agent can sit there so in that in case of emergency, you can help open the emergency door.

Yet… These uncles were really… I don’t know how to say them. We sat right in front of them. They sat there then the air crew explained the procedures about the emergency exit. They listened and responded to the air crew that they understood what was briefed. Then not long later, one of the uncles stood up, left the seat and then out of sudden an aunty(I don’t think she’ll have the energy to open the emergency door when needed -.-“) came and sat at that uncle’s place -.-” For goodness sake, it’s the emergency exit!

She sat down and the air crew saw her and told her that she’s sitting at the emergency exit. The air crew asked the other uncle where’s the earlier uncle went to and that uncle answered that the earlier uncle changed his seat with this aunty coz the earlier uncle wanted to sit with his wife. The aunty just looked at her and smiled and responded happily like as there’s nothing wrong for her to sit there and was pretty excited coz she got to sit with her man.

I saw the air crew’s face, looked so stress and fed up but still explained patiently to the aunty about the emergency procedures. The aunty obviously didn’t understand anything kept giggling while the air crew explained the procedures to her. Then the aunty said, “Why are you people talking to me about this? Why target me? I don’t understand a word at all hehehehe… Brief them enough.” OMG! I almost wanted to bang my head to the window. *sweat*

Then the other uncle that didn’t belong to the group said to the aunty, “because this is the emergency exit that’s why they briefed you about the procedures, they briefed us earlier on, you see the door here?”. The aunty just responded with “Oooo… No wonder.”

Poor air crews… Really pity them. I do not fly much but I’ve been pretty lucky for not encountering passengers like these in other flights be it MAS or Air Asia. On the flight to and from Singapore, I saw and listened with my own eyes and ears these things for the first time of my flying life. Consider this a new experience for me hahaha…

So that’s all about my trip. Not quite satisfied with this trip as my plan was almost ruined but managed to save a lot all thanks to the almost-ruined plan.

Singapore Trip: Day 4(20/8/09): Part 4.4: Food Republic @ Vivo City

Posted on September 15, 2009September 15, 2009 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Singapore Trip: Day 4(20/8/09): Part 4.4: Food Republic @ Vivo City

My Singapore trip posts will be ending very soon. Last post will be tomorrow… My Streamyx is still not back yet. Sigh…

So… After Sentosa, we headed back to Vivo City using the monorail. Since it’s already dinner time, so we decided to settle our dinner Food Republic @ Vivo City. WOW! Food Republic is really something to WOW about! The Food Republic in KL is unique. This is even more unique even though it’s not that big compare to the one at Pavilion, KL.

See the interior design? It’s really special. You feel like you are in an old Chinese street. The tables and chairs are extremely heavy.

Let’s see what we had:

Left: Fast food from the fast food stall. This plate of rice cost SGD4.70, it came with a bowl of seaweed soup. Taste wise? Hmmm… It’s edible, nothing much to rave.

Right: Mixed meat claypot rice(SGD6.80) from Fortune Restaurant stall. This wasn’t so bad.

Oh well… Couldn’t order much or try much food as there will be surely comment like “go back to Kuching to eat even cheaper.”, you say la… Aiyoo… How to try out food like that?!?

Most of the time, you only see I featured 2 types of food but do you know these are for 3 people consumption? Again… Oh well… Don’t want to mention anymore.

Anyway, that’s all for now. Hope Streamyx will be back soon.

Jase Tea Room

Posted on September 14, 2009December 6, 2009 By sweet surrender No Comments on Jase Tea Room

Streamyx not back yet, here’s a quick update.

On my birthday, Lee planned something and “kidnapped” or “forced” me out that night after dinner with my family. *blek* Knew this guy was planning something but didn’t think that’s he’s serious about it hahaha…

Went to Jase Tea Room at Premier 101, only few shops away from bing!. My first time there. I know… It’s there for ages and this is my first time there. *LOL*

Ordered Earl Grey on Lee’s account of course ;p They have many other types of teas available there, if you love tea, you can have your tea here. It’s not the teabag kind. You can make choice from the small bottles at the small table near the counter. WOW! So many kind! Tiramisu, Pina Colada and more… Quite surprising.

Ann and Jee came and joined us too. I have no idea how much these drinks cost ;p The one you see here with mint ice cream was custom made, you can’t find it in the menu, somebody took the drink from somewhere else to Jase ;p Hahaha…

The cake made by Lee on that very same day, fresh out of oven. Thanks. Lemon sponge cake in there, very lemony. Yummy!

How can we miss taking a group photo right? Oh… The one behind the camera isn’t in here! *LOL* we’ve known each other for almost 10 years and this is the first time we celebrate a birthday together. Can you believe it? We always hang out together, do things together but never celebrate a single birthday together until now. Even don’t quite remember each other birthday until now *LOL*

Ann and Jee, thanks for coming and the present too.

No Update

Posted on September 13, 2009September 14, 2009 By sweet surrender No Comments on No Update

Not long after 12am, no more Internet! ARG! Luckily I’ve done most of my things except sending my daily e-mail to him. Thought of compiling it after brushing my teeth then after that go to sleep but sigh… No line at all.

Thought it would be back today morning but NO!! Since this is what happens usually. Waited and waited and finally couldn’t stand it so I called Streamyx support just now and guess what?!?! How lucky of me to be in one of the areas that is affected by line problem. Nothing can be done, can only wait…

Luckily there’s Celcom to the rescue even though it’s slow but better than nothing. Still cannot use the net for too long, have to share with other users in the house. Have to take turn.

So that’s all for now. Hopefully the line will be back tomorrow.
