My Birthday Cakes from Secret Recipe

Posted on September 28, 2009September 29, 2009 By sweet surrender 4 Comments on My Birthday Cakes from Secret Recipe

We have not been buying the conventional birthday cake for quite a while already instead we go to Secret Recipe to buy few slices of different types of cakes for birthday. Used to buy the whole cake there but it’s too big for us to finish, so might as well buy several slices of various types of cakes. This way, we can try different types of cakes available at Secret Recipe and save the trouble on making place in the fridge to store the huge cake and take us ages to finish one whole cake. You’ll get tired of eating the same cake every day as dessert almost 3 meals a day for almost a week ;p

After my birthday dinner, we headed to tHe Spring’s Secret Recipe to buy the cakes:

Left: Chocolate Banana(RM6.50), extremely addictive, loads of banana slices on a bed of chocolate cream with chocolate sponge and coated with melted home-made chocolate. It’s recommended to eat this as soon as possible(in one day, don’t keep for too long ;p) because the banana will go black, you can see from this photo. Even though many people said that this is nice but not for me. Of all the cakes, I like this the least.

Right: Oreo Cheese(RM6.50), frozen cream cheese loaded with crushed oreo biscuits.

There’s another slice of cake but didn’t take the photo, it’s Raspberry Cheese(RM7), similar to Oreo Cheese just replace the Oreo biscuits with raspberries.

Left: Chocolate chip walnut(RM6.50), four layers of chocolate sponge with fresh chocolate cream, chocolate chips and californian walnut.

Right: Choc Mud Cake(RM6.50), filled with semi-sweet and smooth creamy chocolate fudge.

I love all of them! Not too sweet and moist enough. Yummy!

Bird’s Nest

Posted on September 27, 2009September 26, 2009 By sweet surrender No Comments on Bird’s Nest

To some people, having bird’s nest is like taking rice everyday. To me, it’s a once in a blue moon thing, it’s so expensive.

First time had bird nest was yearsssssssss back, that was because it was given to us as a gift. After that, never eat any until now. Now got to have it because there’s an offer so my mom decided to buy it. What we’ve been having is from the bottle, ready to drink after opening. Usually those in bottles are bird’s nest with rock sugar. We never cook it ourselves, never even touch a bird’s nest before.

Bird’s nest is known to be a very nutritious food. According to naturalnest.com, it can promote reproduction and rebirth of human cells, good for skin, kidney, lung and so on. You want to know more, just visit the website I mentioned just now.

It’s just like eating sweet soup with bai mu’er or white snow fungus. I mean the texture felt like bai mu’er.

That’s all I can share. I’m no expert in this ;p

Avon True Colour Eyeshadow Quad

Posted on September 25, 2009September 25, 2009 By sweet surrender No Comments on Avon True Colour Eyeshadow Quad

These two Avon True Colour Eyeshadow Quads were given to me by Ann as my birthday present. There’re two other products, will write about them some other time. Thanks girl!

Played around with them for sure. Here are the results even though the effects aren’t that obvious, tried hard to capture the colours but didn’t quite get them. The colours are much more obvious in real life.

This is Purple Haze Quad. Love the colours. Finally got dark shades for my eyeshadow collection.

For highlighting the brow bone, I used lilac(top left).

For the inner lid and over half of the upper lid, I used amethyst(bottom left). I applied more inner eyelid but less intense for the upper eyelid

For the overall upper lid, I swept some purple(top right) over the middle and blend it to both ends, so that it has fading effect. At the same time, also blended the edges of amethyst with purple so that it won’t look as if there’s obvious line that separate both colours.

I tried to line my upper lash line with black ice(bottom right) but failed, so I just smudge it to blend with amethyst. I managed to line my lower lash line. However, not long after that, the colour was gone. Better stick to eyeliner.

Next, this is the Romantic Quad. I love the colours too even though blue eyeshadow is something I don’t really like because when it’s on my skin, it looked quite dirty, doesn’t seem like blue but for this it’s not that bad.

For highlight, I used white gold(top left). I also applied a bit at the inner corner of my eye to make the eye brighter and open up.

I decided to use both minty(top right) and lagoon(bottom left) for inner and upper lid. Minty on the left, lagoon on the right. Blended both the colour in the middle.

I tried to line metal rose to the upper lash line but failed also so I just blended it in with minty and lagoon. I just lined the lower lash line with it to define the eye. The pink is surprising a very nice colour but again it’s gone not long after that.

The final result, no other make up on except eye shadows and a bit of mascara. Ignore my skin condition, having terrible skin these days. ARG!

Left: Purple Haze.
Right: Romantic.

Johnson & Johnson 1-Day Acuvue

Posted on September 24, 2009September 25, 2009 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Johnson & Johnson 1-Day Acuvue

I decided to try out daily disposable contact lens for my Singapore trip because I’m quite tired of cleaning it, rinsing it, storing it at places I’m not familiar with. I had some not-so-nice experiences during previous trips.

I had no proper place to air dry my lens case, either afraid that the housekeeping people might introduce dust into my case if I air dry it outside of the bathroom or wet it when they clean the bathroom with water or their chemical if I air dry it the bathroom or travel partner accidentally wet my dried case when using the sink at the end of the day.

There were many brands to choose but ended up with Johnson & Johnson 1-Day Acuvue because the rest got not much pairs and prices were slightly higher. I don’t remember the price of this box of lenses though. I think it’s RM70 or is it RM75? There were 15 pairs in there. I brought 6 pairs and damaged 1 pair when trying to take it out from the blister pack. Luckily I brought an extra pair else I won’t have enough for the last day.

I used it for more than 12 hours a day when I was in Singapore. It’s quite comfortable and easy to use but a bit too fragile. That explains why I tore* two lenses, on the second and fourth day ;p Was expecting it to dry up pretty fast but it didn’t.

*Update: I just found out that it’s not me who was being clumsy for tearing them! I did a check on the blister packs just now and found out that there’s one lens folded inside one of the packs! This means… The previous 2 lenses were already folded in the pack and I tore it while trying to open them up.

In normal circumstances, the lens should be able to unfold itself in the unopened blister pack. I kept thinking that I’m the one that made the lens stuck together when trying to take them out from the blister packs but it’s not after seeing what I saw this morning in one of the blister packs.

So if it’s already folded together in there, there is no way for you to unfold it without tearing it. Let’s see… 30 lenses, 3 damaged ones. So do not expect to get a full box of usable lens unless you are very lucky.

Saved me all the trouble of rinsing and cleaning the case and the lens. Saved lots of time and so convenient. Put on in the morning, removed and threw at the end of the day.

How I wish I can switch to daily disposable contact lens but it’s too pricey for me. Monthly contact lens is still more affordable for me because of my usage.

However, I will bring daily disposable lens with me if I’m going out of town from now on.

Oh by the way, the blister packs are very sharp, cut my finger with it -.-“

Dim Sum @ Imperial Duck

Posted on September 23, 2009 By sweet surrender No Comments on Dim Sum @ Imperial Duck

Imperials Duck… Went there twice only. This time went there for brunch with my aunt and sis on a Sunday morning, it happened few weeks back aka the week we came back from Singapore. That was exactly one month ago hehehe… Only update it now because there were so many things to update.

My sis kept saying that she wanted to eat dim sum in Singapore but we didn’t manage to try any because of aih… Don’t want mention anymore. So my aunt suggested that we went to have dim sum when we got back to Kuching. After discussing on which place to go for dim sum, we ended up at Imperial Duck. Reason? *shrug* No reason at all. One of the nearest place from our house I guess…

Mind you, I’m not a dim sum fan and have very limited knowledge on what a good dim sum should be like ;p So I can only judge it based on my own standard.

Right: “Si-Chuan” Dumpling(RM3 / 4 pieces), thought it will be very spicy but not spicy at all.

Left: Steamed Pork Ribs(RM2.40), this is not bad, didn’t get the meat stucked in between my teeth and the meat was easily separated from the bone.

Right: Steamed Chicken Feet(RM2.40), I love chicken feet, I don’t care how it’s cooked as long that it’s chicken feet hahaha… Do you know that chicken feet are rich in collagen (read it somewhere but don’t remember where), in other words it’s good for your skin! ;p

Left: “Har Kao”(RM4.50 / 3 pieces), the skin is a bit tough and dry.

Right: Steamed Pork Dumpling(RM4.50), I’m quite disappointed with this, I was expecting more soup in there.

Left: Egg Yolk Bun(RM3 / 2 pieces), don’t you think they are cute? Not bad for this, if not mistaken the filling was made from salted egg yolk and custard.

Overall, I think the dim sum is pretty OK. What do you expect from someone that only had proper dim sum meal 2 times in her entire life? (exclude the usual pao and sio bee that can be found easily at coffee shops) *LOL*
