Singapore Trip 29/12/2010-1/1/2011 – Part 2

Posted on January 5, 2011September 12, 2013 By sweet surrender No Comments on Singapore Trip 29/12/2010-1/1/2011 – Part 2

After checking into the hotel, we went out for lunch before going to Orchard Road.

We wanted to eat at the food court at Bugis Junction but the place was packed! So dad suggested Nando’s. Off we went because my bro and I never had it. Did not expect that we had to queue, so many people.

The sauces on the table (tomato, garlic, extra hot peri-peri, and hot peri-peri). Tried all 3 sauces except extra hot. Hmmm… Nothing special. I’ve been hearing people raving about Nando’s but really nothing excite me.

Left: Soft drink, Coke(SGD2.90).

Right: 1/2 Chicken with Mediterranean Rice (SGD18.90), I did not expect such rice -.-” For the chicken, we had lemon and herbs instead of the spicy ones because afraid that it might upset our stomach and ruin the whole trip. The meat was tender and juicy. Other than that, nothing wowed me. I guess the special thing should be the sauces. Without them, it’s just your normal chicken that it’s cooked to perfection. However, I don’t think I like the sauces. Just not my taste.

Left: Christmas tree outside ION.
Second left: Inside the Christmas tree of ION. Very hot in there but it’s nice in there. There’s 30 mirror balls, 31 stairs, 32 strobe lights, 850 baubles, 3720 LED lights and 132000 tips in there.
Third left: One part of the street at Orchard Road.
Right: The Christmas tree at Takashimaya.

After lunch, we went to Orchard Road. Only walked inside ION and Lucky Plaza. Stepped in Ngee Ann City for awhile and walked out. Didn’t stay long at Orchard. Nothing to buy there, was not in the mood to shop and the things were not cheap. I’m not the kind that buy branded stuffs so those shops like Chanel, LV, Coach and so on didn’t have any impact on me.

Next, we went to Sembawang.

Singapore Trip 29/12/2010-1/1/2011 – Part 1

Posted on January 3, 2011September 12, 2013 By sweet surrender 4 Comments on Singapore Trip 29/12/2010-1/1/2011 – Part 1

Not sure how long will it takes for me to finish this post with the rate I’m blogging nowadays. I didn’t take much photos, was too occupied with looking for places and got overwhelmed by the crowds! This is my 3rd trip to Singapore. I usually travel during low season, this is the first time traveling during peak season. Also, it’s quite a last minute trip, only booked the tickets in October, no promotion price some more but it’s the cheapest of all airlines and the cheapest of all the possible dates.

First time was with MAS, second time with Tiger. This time with Air Asia. Booked Fragrance Hotel at Bugis in late November, exactly one month after buying the tickets. In fact I had book the other hotel, Grand Mercure Roxy Hotel in early November but I canceled the booking after my parents asked me to check out Fragrance Hotel as they stayed there during their emergency trip there. It’s much cheaper and located at better location, near to Bugis Junction and MRT station. Good thing the booking I made earlier did not require me to pay, only pay when check-in. Really saved a lot.

4 days 3 nights at Fragrance Hotel cost us SGD500+ for family room meant for 3 persons but there were 4 of us. You get everything you need in there.

However, the fridge is empty. As if it did matter. No problem for us because we never touch anything in the fridge LOL! The room includes breakfast for 3 also. Then again, the fridge came in handy because that’s where we stored our leftover food that we couldn’t finish ;p

I did not get very good sleep there every night because the air-con blew directly to my bed. The sheet, mattress and pillow wasn’t comfortable. I don’t like that kind of blanket. The mattress was slippery because it’s covered with some PU material(basically not your usual mattress material) and I couldn’t sleep well because the pillow and sheet moved around easily because of the slipperiness of the mattress and the sheet was quite thin. It’s annoying listening to the sound when you turn your body.

Oh well… I’m just very picky when it comes to bedding(only two places satisfied my sleep so far, Holiday Inn Glenmarie and 41 Berangan), sorry… It’s just me but then again I do recommend this place because it’s strategically located, clean, and it’s good enough. I will go back to stay again for sure.

The breakfast, only took this one photo of the food on the second day. It’s buffet style. The place is quite narrow. The food, kind of disappointed with the taste. Just don’t put much expectation on it.

That’s all about the hotel we stayed. Will blog about the places and food next.

Happy 2011

Finally got time to blog. Just reached Kuching 5 hours ago.

How was your celebration?

Nothing much for me, was in Singapore. Spent it in the hotel room packing, showering, and sleeping *LOL* I did not manage to get new clothes or shoes but just some random little things. It feels weird because usually I’ll surely bought at least some clothes since CNY is coming and should be doing my shopping there ;p

The trip was quite tiring, never have a trip this tired hmm… Legs are painful too, walked too much. Surprising, I met so many people that I know on this trip. What’s the odd of having someone you know boarded the same flight as you, stayed at the same hotel(only found out the on the third day, met at the lobby), and went back on the same flight too? Then, met another person that happened to spend her holiday in Singapore at a place you least expected, a coffee shop in Singapore. Next, one of my blog readers was on the same flight but saw her from afar, didn’t manage to approach her.

As if everyone in Kuching was heading to Singapore these few months. Almost everyone I know all visited Singapore these few months. Guess it’s the new attractions and the affordable flight tickets.

As usual… I’ll blog about the trip 😉

Happy new year and hope you have a wonderful year ahead!

Some Szechuan Dishes

Posted on December 27, 2010December 28, 2010 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Some Szechuan Dishes

Thanks to a friend that invited me to the food tasting session many many moons ago but I didn’t blog about it. We tasted the Szechuan cuisines prepared by none other than the friendly and energetic Szechuan ladies based in Kuching. By the way, I don’t know the dishes’ names, I asked that time but didn’t pen it down and now I cannot remember much, even the tastes too. One thing for sure, we feast! Nice!

Just to share the photos with you… If you know the names, do share with me 🙂

As you all know, Szechuan cuisines are known to be very spicy. However, they didn’t dare to make it too spicy as they’re afraid that we couldn’t stand the spiciness. It turned out that we told them that it’s not spicy enough! ;p Can add more chili hahaha…

Left: The Szechuan style cucumber pickles. It’s refreshing. Even though you see those chilies on top, if you are sane enough then don’t go eat the chilies, it’s meant to boost the flavour only unless you can stand eating the chilies only -.-” I definitely will not do that.

Right: There’s quite a number of chicken dishes, this is one of them.

Left: Braised chicken (or is it duck?) with tofu and eggs. It was too salty for our Malaysian tongue but according to them, that’s how they usually make this dish.

Right: Black fungus dish. Don’t remember much but I like the crunchiness of the black fungus.

Left: Szechuan dessert. I forgot the name. There’s egg, glutinous rice dumpling, and snow fungus in the sweet soup. The white thing peeking out from the soup is egg white. It can be served hot or cold.

Right: Lao Ya Tang(老鸭汤), we were a bit shocked when we heard the name. We thought it was “laoya tang” (literally translate, lousy soup in Hokkien). We were like did-I-hear-laoya and repeating the name to each other in disbelief until the niece of the ladies had to translate the word “Lao Ya” to English, it means old duck! It’s not lousy as we had thought earlier. *LOL* Was told that they really used old duck for this soup but they couldn’t find old duck here, so just use the common duck they found in the market.

*Burp*
