Government House Open Day 2012

Posted on March 29, 2012 By sweet surrender No Comments on Government House Open Day 2012

Government House Open Day was on 18th March, more than 10 daya go but only update it now hehehe… Didn’t tranfer the photo to the computer that’s why.

Found out about it on that day itself and decided to check it out even though I wasn’t really in the mood. However, I just didn’t want to waste the nice weather staying indoor!

Off I went, it’s near my place. Less than 5 minutes walk.

It’s the oldest current Government House in Australia, also the second oldest continuously occupied house in Adelaide.

You don’t get to go in on the normal days so this is the time it’s opened to public. Might as well don’t waste it, some more this might likely be my first and my last time here.

Admission was free.

The highlights of the day were:
– specially set up displays of exhibits within the State collection documenting Her Majesty’s service and visits to South Australia.
– the State dining table set with silver and crystal for a formal dinner.
– Australian paintings on loan from the Art Gallery of South Australia.
– where the police inspector was murdered in 1862. (Is it?!?!? I didn’t notice it!)

Was there for an hour. It was a lovely day even though my mood was gray. Still life goes on…

Randomly on the Street

Posted on March 27, 2012March 28, 2012 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Randomly on the Street

*LOL* Can’t help it but it’s really something I never expect would happen to me.

A random guy approached me on the street asking whether I can go out for coffee with him ;p I was walking from Rundle Mall to Rundle Street to meet a friend. On the way there, someone tapped on my shoulder, I looked up and found a tall young good looking caucasian man. Then he complimented my dressing. We chatted for a bit such as where I’m from, how many languages I know, and some random topics. Before we parted, he asked me for my number, I keyed my number in and asked him to miss call me but till now no call from him hahaha… I might have key in the wrong number because I didn’t check before handing the phone back to him. Well… Maybe it’s correct just that he hasn’t call.

Anyway, whether he’ll call back or not, it doesn’t matter. It’s one interesting experience! Never happen in my life! *LOL* What’s the odd of having a handsome young man approaching you randomly on the street wanting to ask you out?!?!

PKNU Cultural Exchange – 14.1.2012 (Part 2)

Posted on March 26, 2012March 26, 2012 By sweet surrender No Comments on PKNU Cultural Exchange – 14.1.2012 (Part 2)

After our lunch, we went for a drive around the coastal area.

See the red arrow? These are the well-knwon Korean diving women (Hae-nyao). Finally got to see them in action with my own eyes instead of from the TV.

After that, we went to Lotte Aqua Mall.

This is the world tallest indoor musical fountain found in Aqua Mall. It was amazing!

Then we went to the street at Nampo-dong to do some shopping, skincare products! Lots of them, helping friends to buy and buy some for myself.

Left: A group of Korean teens took part in free hugs campaign.
Right: Then we went for afternoon tea at PM2:45 Coffee.

Very cosy cafe. There’s so many unique cafes around throughout the city, very competitive.

Don’t quite remember what we ordered, I think it was cafe latte, chocolate latte, blueberry late, and chocolate chip cookie.

My host and my homestay partner from US.

Then, we walked to the nearby market.

Old fashion street with many small business seller clothes, hardware, food, and more. This is also where you can find many street food and eating by sitting down at the stall.

Left: Another section of the market. We headed back to the city centre for karaoke. The last destination of the day was my host’s home. We were surprised to found that the subway was actually 9 floors underground! Or rather 9 levels inside the mountain. We had to take a lift up instead of using the staircase *LOL*

Right: Our very first home-cook Korean dinner by my host’s mum 😉

We stayed a night there, was so hot in the room! Sweat bucket! This is because the sheet was heated and on high setting! I woke up in the morning with very nice skin though. WIth this, I scrapped my plan to go to the jimjibang *LOL*

1 Year in Adelaide

Posted on March 23, 2012March 24, 2012 By sweet surrender 4 Comments on 1 Year in Adelaide

It’s a year! Officially one year staying in Adelade. Maybe need to deduct 3 weeks from it because I went to Korea for cultural exchange *LOL*

Anyway, last year today, I arrived Adelaide hoping for a whole new start. In this one year, I enjoyed it a lot! I wish I don’t have to go back soon but in less than a year, I’ll be home for good. Maybe. Time flies, it’s almost April, the day to go home is getting near. I’m not ready to go home yet sigh…

Life is treating me well here, even with the shits, it’s still good, I embrace it, enjoy it. Every single moment here is precious. Just what I don’t like is the exchange rate. Oh well…

April is going to be a depressing month, many friends are leaving, the computer pool will be soooo unhappening. If only what happened last week didn’t happen last week, at least I won’t feel so bad.

Last year, I thought I’ll have a special someone to celebrate my final 20’s birthday with me but there wasn’t, things just went ugly just before that. This time, I thought there’ll be another special someone to celebrate this one year anniversay with me but again… same thing, things just didn’t go well before it. Luckily, I still have my friends, we had a great time at dinner at least.

Even though I’ve been here for 1 year already but I haven’t get to really venture around Adelaide or even other parts of Australia. Only managed to go to places nearby such as the museum to see some beads artworks from the aboriginals, history, and so on of Adelaide; botanical garden to enjoy the vibrant colour of nature; the river to watch the world goes by; and so on and so forth.

Anyway, let’s just hope things will get better. Happy 1st anniversary to myself.

PKNU Cultural Exchange – 14.1.2012 (Part 1)

Posted on March 22, 2012March 22, 2012 By sweet surrender No Comments on PKNU Cultural Exchange – 14.1.2012 (Part 1)

Homestay Day was on the Saturday of the second week of the programme. At 10am, we met our host. I’m so glad I had a partner going with me, else it would be really awkward ;p

Our host’s dad came to pick us up. The view from the bridge.

Awesome!

Usually we’re just looking at the bridge, now we’re on it.

We headed to the temple that I went previously, Hae Dong Yong Gung Temple. These are some of the properties near the temple.

Even though I had been there before, it’s great to be able to go again. Managed to venture to the area which I missed out when I was there.

We had quite an early lunch at the restaurant just before the entrance of the temple.

Dumpling and Jajangmyeon (alternately spelled jjajangmyeon; 자장면; 짜장면).

If not mistaken this is a type of seafood noodle dish called jjambbong (짬뽕). This is spicy but still not that bad and it was great especially during winter. All the food was great!

After that we drove around the coastal area, to be continued…
