Penang Day 2 – Part 3: Back to Nature

Posted on October 25, 2008October 11, 2013 By sweet surrender 4 Comments on Penang Day 2 – Part 3: Back to Nature

On day 2 afternoon, our friends decided to bring us to experience the nature of Penang. There are lots of nice views to share with you. Enjoy the photos!

The following is taken behind The Ship, the restaurant that serves great steak. It’s very expensive to dine there. I only dine at The Ship once, back then in 2006 at KL hahaha…

Our friend told us we can visit the beach from here. There are various activities such as paragliding, jetski and etc. that you can play there but we didn’t do any. Took some photos and we left.

Next, we went to the dam. Going up, up, up… You will pass by various places such as Tropical Spice Meseum(will blog about it later), Butterfly Farm(didn’t go there), and Penang Forestry museum. It’s very high up on the moutain before you reach Tropical Fruit Farm. You will not miss it.

View from the dam. In fact there’s a big signboard stating “Teluk Bahang” near the entrance of the dam.

The view of the mountain. Magnificent view!

View of the mountain from another angle.

The dam. Really love the view of water and mountain. You don’t get this view everyday unless you work there but I doubt I want to see it everyday ;p

Next stop, we just went down a bit and we reached Penang Forestry Museum.

If you like to challenge and be closer to the nature, you can do it here by going on the longest forest trail in Penang.

Visit the museum first, reminded me of Sarawak Timber Museum but Penang’s much bigger. No photos allowed in there. Once we came out, we went to the hanging bridge.

After that, our friend suggested that we refreshed ourselves at the stream by dipping our feet in there. There were many small fish in there. At first we just gently moved our feet in the water then when we stopped, sudddenly lots of fish came to us, surrounded our feet. I didn’t bother until I felt a bit of ticklish sensation then I noticed that these fish actually came to feast on our feet! However I didn’t continue on because co-incidently I decided to dry my feet since we didn’t have any towel and we’re wearing shoes, it took a bit of time to let our feet air dry. The guys continued on while I watched and took photos and video of their feet being eaten by the fish! *LOL*

HEY! FREE FISH SPA!!! ;p Here’s the video:

More of the nature, food and birthday party post coming tomorrow.

Penang Day 2 – Part 2: Toy Museum

Posted on October 24, 2008October 11, 2013 By sweet surrender 8 Comments on Penang Day 2 – Part 2: Toy Museum

After brunch, we went to Toy Museum. We came across it when we were hunting for breakfast. After brunch, we decided to go there since we had managed to find a place to visit. This is what happen when you don’t plan your holiday. You got no idea where to go and just roam around with no aim *LOL*

It’s the largest toy museum in the world, hmmm… Is it? In fact we did think twice of whether to go or not. If not because of the “world’s largest”, we won’t bother going. The entrance is RM10 for Malaysians, you need to show your IC. Foreigner is RM20.

There were so many to see. Let’s just let the photos do the talking. I’m lazy already ;p These are just some, I only picked photos with less reflections. If you love toys, you should pay this museum a visit.

Very nice right?

Barbies and Lau Fu Tze.

Mr. Bean, Tomb Raider, and Pirates of the Carribean.

Lord of the Rings.

Charmed, Star Wars, and Wall-E.

Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs, Spiderman.

Garfield.

Superman, don’t-know-what but nice figurines, and Shrek.

The horror corner with all the scary dolls and toys.

See the head there? Very spooky ;p and next will be Ghost Busters.

I forgot what the blue and green creature called ;p Next is the view from the entrance. Then, it’s me, I know, I know… I don’t like this photo actually hahaha… Just to show you how big the statue is.

After toy museum, we had to go back to Batu Feringghi because our friend would be picking us up to some other places further up from Batu Feringghi.

Penang Day 2 – Part 1: Brunch @ Kang Hoe Coffee Shop

Posted on October 23, 2008October 11, 2013 By sweet surrender 4 Comments on Penang Day 2 – Part 1: Brunch @ Kang Hoe Coffee Shop

Left: The place we’re staying. On the 15th floor.

Right: The morning view of the place we stayed. Just looked out of our windows from the bedrooms, this is what we got.

Armed with a car, the 4 Kuchingites that got no prior planning on where to go went out on their own to look for a place for breakfast. Went to many places and were mostly not opened, as for those already opened, we didn’t even want to go try them out *LOL*. We even tried to go to one of the shopping malls(don’t remember which one) to look for breakfast but to no avail. Hahaha… The breakfast ended up became brunch.

Left: We just drove around and ended up at Kang Hoe Coffee Shop. It’s more like a market to me, sort of like the market at Tabuan Jaya. Many stalls were not opened and we just made do with whatever we could find. Frankly the place is quite dirty hahaha… Still we just ordered and ate. Don’t ask me where this is. I have no idea at all. *LOL* We were driving without any plan.

Right: Soya bean milk with gula melaka. Don’t remember the price. ;p Never bother also.

Left: I’m not so sure what is this, if not mistaken it’s wantan mee. Portion was big! The price is not expensive at all but I don’t know how much hehehe…

Right: Don’t remember the name but it’s just like cha kueh. Very cheap too! Taste wise, ok la…

Left: Chu Chang Fen, it’s different from what you can get in Kuching. These got no fillings and topped with prawn paste, the paste tasted like jiu eng chai‘s paste except this is so much more thicker and sweeter. It’s also topped with sambal. The sambal is heavenly! Sweet+Salty+Spicy=YUM! However, this is not the best chu chang fen in Penang, that’s what my friend said. The price for this plate is RM2.60

Right: Fried bee hoon, only RM1!!! Portion is standard portion enough to feed an average eater. Where can you can get this kind of portion with this kind of price in Kuching? RM1 food in Kuching extinct already *LOL*

After breakfast, we head over to Toy Musuem. You’ll see the post tomorrow ;p

Penang Day 1: Penang Here I Come

Posted on October 22, 2008October 11, 2013 By sweet surrender 7 Comments on Penang Day 1: Penang Here I Come

The major jam on the way to aiport got me so worry that I migth miss my flight. I’m supposed to reach the airport before 6.30pm but didn’t expect the jam was so terrible at Simpang Tiga flyover but luckily I’m still not the last one to arrive ;p

Once we reached Penang, our friend came to pick us up at the airport. Then we went to get some food to eat. It was 11pm+ already, many places had closed or closing. Luckily there’s a kopitiam that was still opened but will close at around 12 am or 1am near our friend’s house at Air Itam area(if not mistaken).

This is the one, East Coast Food Centre(Not the exact name, I just direct translate it from the name on the fridge ;p)

We were told that Penang’s food is extremely cheap. Indeed! Cheap and portion is big! Worth it! I can tell you that you can never get such portion in Kuching with that kind of price. However, I have no idea the prices of the following food. Still it’s so much more cheaper than Kuching.

Left: I didn’t know Penang got Kueh Chap. However, theirs isn’t that thick. I still prefer our own kueh chap. Their kueh chap even got duck meat, ours are all spare parts of the pig.
Right: Mee Jawa, quite surprise that their mee jawa stall is owned by Chinese. I don’t think you can get Chinese mee jawa in Kuching. The mee jawa tasted a bit like belacan bee hoon *LOL* You get bee hoon in this, they mix the mee and bee hoon.

Left: Duck rice, nothing much to rave about this though. It’s just duck rice but portion is generous.
Right: Hokkien Char

Aiya… I just remember that I forgot to put in the photo of Tai Luk Mee, this is the only one with no bee hoon. *LOL* If you want to see the photo, you can go to sarawakian.net for it.

Left: BBQ fish, the sambal is great! They BBQ the fish with curry powder which is different from what you get in Kuching.
Right: Lala, lalalalala… ;p We saw many people eating this everywhere we went in Penang. Of course, our friend ordered it for us as well. Very tasty! The sauce is tasty but the lala’s flesh was very small. Hmm… Wrong season? Or it’s originally like this?

After eating, off we drove to Batu Ferringhi to where we stayed. It was very late already, when we reached there and settled down, it’s already 2am+.

Penand day 2 will come…

Back From Penang

Posted on October 21, 2008October 21, 2008 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Back From Penang

Got back from Penang last night at almost 8pm. Flight delayed due to the rain but reached Kuching on time. Went to Penang it rained; came back it rained also.

Lots of things to update, lots of photos need to be editted. You will get lots of Penang posts this few weeks ;p

Initial plan was to stay at Batu Feringghi but after consulting some friends in Penang, they said that it’s not recommended because it’s very far from the city. Ended up made a booking with Oriental Hotel at the city but then a friend offered to let us stayed at his house for free. Cancelled the booking few days before the trip.

When we reached Penang, guess what!?!? The house is at Batu Feringghi! *LOL* Good thing we were given a car to drive else transportation will be a problem. Batu Feringghi to the city is like from Kuching to Damai/Santubong, that kind of distance. Imagine that hahaha…

Every night we reached home after 12.30am and slept at around the earliest 1.30am or the latest 2am+. Every morning we went out at 10am+. Summore, 4 persons sharing a bathroom and a toilet. It’s not really that bad, there’s a kitchen sink to be utilised also.

Found out that many places especially the shopping complexes in Penang only open after 11am or so, therefore not much to see before 11am.

Skipped breakfast every morning and had brunch instead. Ate too little food there due to time constraint. Missed out many food and places. People had been telling us that we can cover the whole Penang in a short time but it turned out not very right ;p If just drive around the whole island in one day, it is possible but if you really want to visit/explore many places or eat many food in few days time, it is not possible at all!

Basically this is the summary. Detailed posts will come.

By the way, if you notice, I used to be very kiasu in covering new places or events in Kuching last time but these few months, I don’t do anything like this anymore. One thing is due to my weekend classes and another thing is that I’m quite lazy and busy hahaha… Wrong timing also. I also don’t have the mood to do it also, wonder why? Hmm…

Anyway, stay tuned for my Penang posts 😉 Let me reward you with one photo:
