Things Really Happened for a Reason

Posted on December 11, 2009December 12, 2009 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Things Really Happened for a Reason

We always like to say that things happened for a reason and no one can deny this fact for sure. For me, well… Yes… They happen for a reason but this time around, all the things that happened actually fall into the right places for me this year even though it was sort of a nightmare at first when everything just seemed to go against me.

OK… How is it so? Let’s see…

1. Some changes in my social circle which made me a bit anti-social.

2. Changes of subjects and schedules for my classes which messed up some of my plans and routine.

3. Decided to take up one subject with the full-time students.

4. Joined The Spring’s Ambassador Hunt 2009 audition because I didn’t have classes on Saturday and I’m sort of free from being slightly controlled. Otherwise, I don’t think I will be joining/won’t be allowed to join.

5. The schedule of activities of The Spring’s Ambassador Hunt 2009 all fitted my time nicely. Why? Originally, exam should be on 20th December but due to delay of starting of class, exam will be a week later, after Christmas. Most importantly, the activity on 20th will be one of the elimination rounds. I have to be there else definitely automatically got kicked out.

Phew… Not only that, some activities were done on Saturday afternoon and I had no problem at all as I did not have classes. Summore, I do not need to take the new subject that will be on Saturday as I already took it along with the full-time students. One more, exam related tips were given quite a while ago so for the last day of class(aka the elimination round), I will not miss anything or much. Basically, all the dates favours me so that I can join the hunt. See the connection?

Hmmm… Is this a sign? ;p

6. Since I have no classes on Saturday, I could join some seminars/workshops to improve myself, learn new things, and understand things better.

A lot of connection right? Things really happened for a reason. Couldn’t agree more with this.

Blackout Again!

Posted on November 27, 2009November 28, 2009 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Blackout Again!

For so many years, I think I experienced the most blackouts in my entire life this year. Last time, at least once or twice a year. Then this year, I lost count already.

The moon tonight is so bright. It’s rare opportunity to bask under the moonlight. It’s a blessing in disguise. However, really worry about my poor laptop, desktop, and modem as they’ve been suffering so much lately with so many power outages.

I’m going random today because is busy with my revision and some distractions here and there ;p Exam will be coming soon in December. After that, there’ll be another exam again right after Christmas. Then we will be heading into 2010.

Achieved anything? Well… So far for me, I discover a lot about myself, learning to look at life at a different angle, and joining a contest that I thought I will never be joining. Let’s see…

  • There is no point to hate people because it will only hurt yourself. People will not care that you hate them, they are still doing whatever they please. Therefore there is not point to hurt yourself like that, they don’t care what’s more when they are total strangers that you just don’t like the way they look. Why don’t you do yourself a favour and be happy rather than hating this and that which do no good to your health. Just ask yourself some questions, “What do I get by being unhappy about the person? Will it do me any good? Will that person care?”. If all the answer are negatives, then you will be happier and think to yourself that it’s just silly to make yourself suffer when they don’t even bother about you being unhappy of them. It’s hard to switch our thinking but after several attempts you will get used to it.
  • Be selfish. YES! In certain situation, you just have to do this. Sometimes caring too much will do no good but it will be an extra burden to you. Analyze the situation, ask yourself some questions, “Why do I need to care so much? What happen if I don’t care? What do I get from caring so much when the person doesn’t even bother/care about it?”
  • There are so many to discover in life, it’s just a matter of whether you allow yourself to step out of your comfort zone or not. I’m still trying, it takes courage and lots of baby steps before I can take the huge leap. You’ll learn along the way and you’ll be surprised that there are so many out there to discover. It’s not easy but take it slow and easy, pushing too hard will only do harm to yourself.
  • Depending on yourself is better than depending on others. You’ll never know when the person will let you down. Backup plan is very important. I learned it the hard way.
  • Try to be happy and be positive most of the time, it’s good for health as stress will only cause sickness either physically or mentally. You are allowed to be sad or negative which is normal reaction that a human will have when they encounter something bad but don’t stay in there too long. Life still goes on, the sun will come up and down like no body business. They’re all part of life and it’s normal. I’m still learning…

Basically that’s all I can think of. I’m sure those who know me for ages will not be believing what I had just mentioned hahaha… Suddenly I have so many life theories *LOL* Oh well… Let’s just say all those falls make you wiser and it’s just a matter of whether you want to embrace it or not.

Actually I listed it down here as a reminder to myself as there were times when I forget about them. Since I’m determined to treat myself better, I have to write it down somewhere and practice them until they assimilate into my life. In fact, I understand what I want better after attended The Law of Attraction workshop few weeks back. I’m so glad that I made the right decision to join the workshop. Do you want to join? There’s one coming up in December. Let me know if you are interested.

Back to revision.

Not Bumiputera if Your Mother isn’t One

Posted on October 29, 2009October 29, 2009 By sweet surrender 16 Comments on Not Bumiputera if Your Mother isn’t One

I was shocked when I read the newspaper today regarding how a person is perceived as a bumiputera or otherwise in Sarawak. You can read the original article, Being ‘mixed’ is no privilege.

Before I go further, this post is not about pointing finger or to create any racial issue, so please read it carefully before you contribute your “smart” inputs. Also, please do not bring up the religion issue because it’s not related to this post, this post is about race, not religion. Not only that, being a Sarawakian doesn’t mean you are a bumiputera.

I’m just sharing the way I look at this matter for being a person who is of mixed parentage. I’m not a bumiputera because my father is Chinese and my mother is Bidayuh. Everyone knows, for my case I cannot be considered one and I have no complain about it. I fill in formal forms stating that I’m Chinese because my father is Chinese, I cannot fill in the forms saying that I’m Bidayuh because my name doesn’t reflect that at all. I’m not entitle to the privilege that a bumiputera can enjoy.

Let’s go back to the news article.

All these while, majority of us think that if a child’s father is a bumiputera, he/she will automatically be one regardless of the mother’s race in Sarawak. However, this news article told us that we are wrong! DEAD WRONG!

(If the father and mother is a native of Sarawak as defined under Article 161A(6)(b) of the Federal Constitution, the child is considered a Bumiputera).

“I think to solve this problem. Article 161(A) of the Federal Constitution has to be amended. The article says that in Sarawak, both parents have to be ‘exclusively’ a native,” Ronnie said.

So for those that are affected by this, I know many! Inter-racial marriage is very common here in Sarawak. All these while, these children with bumiputera fathers and non-bumiputera mothers are known as bumiputeras by majority of us and even in school too.

Their fathers are bumiputeras, they carry bumiputera’s names, and they mostly follow the bumiputera’s lifestyles. Even in filling in formal forms for various applications be it government or non-government related, they are stating their race as either Bidayuh, Iban, Melanau… Instead of Chinese or India. Now, with the news article, they are supposed to be the same race as their mothers’ not their fathers’. All these while, they are filling in the wrong field!?!?

Think of it another way, this will indirectly reduce the number of bumiputeras in Sarawak because these children are not considered as bumiputeras. As we all know, being a bumiputera, you have many privileges. I have many friends that are of mixed parentage whereby the fathers are bumiputeras but not their mothers. They’ve been enjoying all these privileges with no issues at all. They also proudly known themselves as bumiputeras. However, according to the Federal Constitution, they are not qualified for all these privileges at all. Then, how come they get to enjoy it?

Very confusing. The more I write, the more I reason, the more confusing I’m getting.

Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that, in Sarawak, these children are not considered bumiputeras even though their fathers are. How sad? How odd?

I’m pretty sure there are many people that are affected or not affected are as shock as I am, if not for the news article, we will still be thinking that as long that the child’s father is a bumiputera, he/she is automatically a bumiputera. Sarawak is indeed different from other state. Very complicated. Very unique too.

As for 1 Malaysia? Hmmm… I can never understand how this whole thing works, it baffles the hell out of me. Guess maybe I’m just too stupid to understand.

To me, when you are talking about 1 Malaysia, it should be making everyone equal rather than having differences of privileges because of different races, religions, or states. Everyone should have the same rights too. If not how can we call ourselves as being one? Summore with this article about mixed parentage whereby a person is not a bumiputera if the mother is not a bumiputera. It’s even harder to achieve this 1 Malaysia thing.

I don’t see that it’s possible to make everyone equal in Malaysia. At least not now, maybe 100 years or more later which I surely won’t be here to see it.

However, I know that in Malaysia, Sarawak is one good role model in terms of racial harmony whereby all races live harmoniously together and you can even find a Malay stall next to a kolomee stall. Non Malays and Malays having their kopi sharing the same table in a non-halal kopitiam, non Malays eating their kolomee and Malays eating their mee goreng on the same table, sometimes sharing food from the same plate and happily chit chatting with each other. Where can you see such scene?

tHe Spring Autumn & Winter Fashion Show 2009 – Lim Kok Wing

Posted on October 6, 2009October 15, 2009 By sweet surrender 3 Comments on tHe Spring Autumn & Winter Fashion Show 2009 – Lim Kok Wing

After the launch of tHe Spring Ambassador Hunt, it’s the fashion show showcasing clothes designed by Lim Kok Wing student.

Anyway, nothing much to say about it but have a lot to say on some people that day.

I wasn’t very satisfied and happy with the overall shooting experience last Saturday, didn’t manage to get much photos that I’m satisfied with. Just because I didn’t have a huge ass camera and huge long lens didn’t mean that I didn’t take my photo taking seriously and being treated like I’m invisible by some photographers. I was in front at first and was practically being “pushed” to the back by them. “Pushed” as in I am kind enough to make way for them to take the shoot at my spot but that didn’t mean I’m giving up my spot! I HAD to make way for them coz of their huge long lens that might knock on my head or face when they turned. Not to mention that they both were not very tall, just taller than me a bit so that’s the problem.

Seeing that kind of attitude, I purposely tried “pushing” my way back to my spot by standing right behind them just to make myself visible to them that there’s someone behind them is also taking photos but no respond from them. Got a bit pissed and I shoved my small Canon right in front of their lenses to block their views and got some irritating stares from them, WTF! As if I’m not irritated with your lenses blocking my views?!?!

Most of my photos ended up with long and huge ass lens at the bottom of my photo. ARG! Not only that, my camera was sandwiched several times in between the two huge long lens, I wanted to shoot this direction, they also shoot this direction and ended up I got no view at all but in return my little Canon collided with their lenses.

You can say that I can move to other spot but why should I? Not only that, so many people were taking photos there, I couldn’t possibly shoved myself in front of them or walked right in front of their lenses when they’re shooting. I’m not that inconsiderate.

It’s a good thing I’m not using DSLR so I can lift up my hand or extended my hand to take the photos. When I extended my hand, I’ll block their views HAHA! So what that you have huge camera with huge long ass lens?!?!

Anyway…

Enjoy the photos!

Singapore Trip: Day 5(21/8/09): Part 5: Bye Bye Singapore

Posted on September 16, 2009September 17, 2009 By sweet surrender No Comments on Singapore Trip: Day 5(21/8/09): Part 5: Bye Bye Singapore

Time to say bye bye to Singapore. Packing was hellish! Not because we shopped too much, we didn’t even shop but were “forced” to bring back all those things which caused my sis’ luggage to overshoot the weight quota. Luckily they didn’t fine her -.-” Phew…

Dragged our fully packed luggage(went there with only half the luggage empty) and hand luggage(went there with only some essentials in the hand luggage) all the way from Sembawang to the airport. It was horrible especially with my right hand feeling so painful since the night before. I relied on my left hand only. -.-”

Nothing much to say about the wait to board the plane but a lot to say about the passengers. I really don’t know how to say them.

There’s a group of uncles and couple of aunties, boarding the plane with lots of duty-free alcohols and musical instruments. As you know the seats were assigned when you check-in. You should just sit at your assigned seat. If you are given a seat at the emergency exit, it means you are qualified to sit there as only those that are deemed strong enough by the check-in agent can sit there so in that in case of emergency, you can help open the emergency door.

Yet… These uncles were really… I don’t know how to say them. We sat right in front of them. They sat there then the air crew explained the procedures about the emergency exit. They listened and responded to the air crew that they understood what was briefed. Then not long later, one of the uncles stood up, left the seat and then out of sudden an aunty(I don’t think she’ll have the energy to open the emergency door when needed -.-“) came and sat at that uncle’s place -.-” For goodness sake, it’s the emergency exit!

She sat down and the air crew saw her and told her that she’s sitting at the emergency exit. The air crew asked the other uncle where’s the earlier uncle went to and that uncle answered that the earlier uncle changed his seat with this aunty coz the earlier uncle wanted to sit with his wife. The aunty just looked at her and smiled and responded happily like as there’s nothing wrong for her to sit there and was pretty excited coz she got to sit with her man.

I saw the air crew’s face, looked so stress and fed up but still explained patiently to the aunty about the emergency procedures. The aunty obviously didn’t understand anything kept giggling while the air crew explained the procedures to her. Then the aunty said, “Why are you people talking to me about this? Why target me? I don’t understand a word at all hehehehe… Brief them enough.” OMG! I almost wanted to bang my head to the window. *sweat*

Then the other uncle that didn’t belong to the group said to the aunty, “because this is the emergency exit that’s why they briefed you about the procedures, they briefed us earlier on, you see the door here?”. The aunty just responded with “Oooo… No wonder.”

Poor air crews… Really pity them. I do not fly much but I’ve been pretty lucky for not encountering passengers like these in other flights be it MAS or Air Asia. On the flight to and from Singapore, I saw and listened with my own eyes and ears these things for the first time of my flying life. Consider this a new experience for me hahaha…

So that’s all about my trip. Not quite satisfied with this trip as my plan was almost ruined but managed to save a lot all thanks to the almost-ruined plan.
