Come Join Sarawakian.net in Facebook

Posted on April 21, 2009April 22, 2009 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Come Join Sarawakian.net in Facebook

I’m sure many of you know that sarawakian.net is one of my blogs. It’s all about food. Frankly, I don’t remember when we started it, somewhere in 2007 I guess. Sarawakian.net is a place for us to keep track of eateries that we had dined in before and also to share some promotions that we come across from various sources.

Along the way, we managed to get some eateries to invite us for food tasting sessions also advertisers to support the operation and maintenance of sarawakian.net. It has gain popularity and visitors are increasing constantly over the years which is a good news for us.

We don’t really do review in there unless requested. We only show you some of the food that are available at the eateries.

Anyway, my main aim today is to invite you to join us in Facebook.

For those that had joined, thanks for joining and do invite your friends to join as we are planning something for our supporters in Facebook. Hopefully the plan will go well and can be executed soon.

Celcom Broadband

Posted on April 20, 2009April 24, 2009 By sweet surrender 14 Comments on Celcom Broadband

Remember the prize I got from CIMB? I finally got it on 13th April 2009.

They sent me the modem and a cheque. Phew… Luckily they sent the modem because the modem is so expensive. If they only sent me the cheque then I really don’t know whether I should use this service or not as I will have to fork out more than RM300 for a modem to use for one year only. I checked Celcom’s site and it stated that the modem is RM499 or RM799 for original price.

The monthly fee for the broadband isn’t cheap too, RM98/month for 3.6Mbps, at least my one year usage fee is covered. Still… Forking out such money for just the modem really not worth it at all.

Here’s the modem. It can also be used as thumbdrive but I don’t think it’s worth it to buy the micro SD because it’s so expensive! I rather just buy a normal thumbdrive with very big space.

I do not plan to extend after that because I don’t need it at all. Even if I do go traveling, I can easily get free wifi everywhere nowadays. Besides, I won’t spend much time online when I go traveling, having it is just a matter of being convenient to get connected such as in the comfort of your room or anywhere or anytime.

I went to get it activated on 14/4/2009 at Blue Cube, tHe Spring. The people there got quite blurred on what to do and I was also blurred on what I should do that time. Should I pay to activate or not? Luckily I brought the letter from CIMB along and finally they said I don’t have to pay anything. That’s right, you shouldn’t be required to pay for your prize.

After filling in all the forms, they told me I should be able to use it the next day but I didn’t bother to test it out the next day. My bro tested it out with his PC but got no signal at all. We thought they haven’t activate for us so I didn’t bother as it’s free, I was also busy with a project too. I only tried it on 16/4/2009.

When I first tried it out, I got signal but it was very unstable. My MSN got disconnected for don’t know how many times. Once connected, it got disconnected without any chance to let me even see who’s online. It kept switching from one service to another.

I didn’t bother to connect to MSN. I just surfed around with it because only surfing could be done. After one hour later, I tried to connect my MSN and finally there’s no disconnection. It was stable all the way with the auto switching between 3G, GPRS and HSDPA but no disconnection.

The picture you see here is the speed when I was uploading a 30MB+ file and light surfing in my living room, quite an isolated section in the house. Streamyx would take a while only. With this, it took me more than 50 minutes! I kept checking on the uploading because I’m so not use to having such slow upload after many years of using Streamyx.

I’m not saying that Streamyx is good and Celcom broadband is bad as they are two different things. Fixed and wired line is always better than wireless for sure because wireless have to depend on the surrounding and coverage. If coverage is good, then you get good service.

If you are using it at quite an isolated area, the signal is really weak. My bro’s computer totally cannot use Celcom Broadband at all because of the computer location which even mobile phone signal isn’t very good there. Basically, if you have good signal on your mobile phone at one place, this is the best place for you to use wireless broadband.

I tried it in my room which is less isolated and the signal of HSDPA was excellent. I managed to stream some videos on You Tube. Don’t ask me the speed because I forgot to track. If I’m using it in the living room, the signal kept changing from between 3G, GPRS and HSDPA.

The limit of monthly data usage is 5GB, once you reach 5GB, your speed will be reduced for the rest of the month. 5GB is very limited I would say.

The package you take also depends very much on your area because some places only have 3G or GPRS. HSDPA is still not widely available yet and I’m lucky that my area has all 3 of them.

I can’t really give you a good review in this as I never use any other broadband except Streamyx and now Celcom. In fact I’m not fully on Celcom Broadband because when I have big files to download or upload I have to switch back to Streamyx.

Celcom Broadband is just another option for mobile internet to me but I think it might be better than Maxis or Digi because I heard a lot of complains from some friends such as the line can be slower than a dial-up connection and very unstable.

Should you get it or not? If only when you move around a lot and no fixed line at home.

Courtyard

Posted on April 19, 2009April 24, 2009 By sweet surrender 12 Comments on Courtyard

Courtyard, quite a new eatery, opened somewhere last year end if I’m not mistaken. Not many people know about this place. Always wanted to go there since last year but no chance at all. Finally got the chance now.

Was supposed to have a bigger gathering there for ex-college mates but who knows at the end, ended up with only 4 of us as usual. Anyway, this place is located at Sarakraf Pavillion a.k.a Sarawak Arts & Crafts Heritage Centre. Parking was limited but now they have a space to accommodate more cars.

The place isn’t very big but not too small also. You can choose to sit indoor or outdoor. Prefer indoor as there’s air-con.

L-R: Ice Lemon Tea(RM2.50); Ice Blended Chocolate with Cream(RM7); I need help in this!! What kind of coffee already? Hahaha…; Vienna Hot Coffee(RM5).

The coffee are freshly brew, you will have to wait a bit longer for it but definitely worth the wait.

This place served Chinese-style food.

Left: Stewed Chicken with Sea Salt(RM12), this is a type of cold dish, something I don’t think you can get in many places. Taste wise? Just cold chicken meat to me but not the gross type, it’s something different, edible and definitely a must-try.

Right: Seasoned Egg-plant in steel-pot(RM8) but it’s served in clay pot. Not bad for this also. I don’t know how to explain how it tastes but it’s good. I like it.

Left: Lamb Chop Zhe Jiang Style (RM18), highly recommended from me. Yummy… The meat is so tender and don’t worry about having problem eating it with chopsticks.

Right: Plain rice, don’t remember the price. Just plain rice, what do you expect? ;p

Here’s the map so that you know how to go.

That night, Lee made a cake for 8 people but only 4 of us went. This cake is highly recommended from us, serious! Mousse Chocolate Cake, it’s so light and not too sweet and so much better than what you get from most bakeries.

I don’t know how much he’s selling though. One thing for sure, it’s GOOD! Those who are health conscious will think it’s good as sugar is reduced in this cake. If you are interested in ordering this cake, let me know ok? I’m sure he is happy to receive your order.

So… What we do with the rest of the cake? We split the cake into 3 and then I gave my portion to the management of Courtyard! 😛 Hehehe… Happened that an ex-schoolmate of mine was there so I gave it to her to try.

Place there is quite limited for the indoor section, you might want to make a reservation:

I’ll Wait…

Posted on April 18, 2009 By sweet surrender No Comments on I’ll Wait…

Have some stuffs to blog about but quite busy and lazy to edit those pictures. There will be two posts coming, one about Celcom Broadband and another one is the latest place I dined in last night with some of my friends.

Anyway… Just simple text post, some randomness and thoughts.

Sometimes we, human, like to take thing for granted or just look at the big picture and never bother about the little things in life. In fact, these little things are the things that will make or break your life.

Recently I learn to look at the smaller things instead of the big pictures in life and notice that little things really matters a lot. These little things that you (you know who you are) did let me see and feel that you indeed care about me. It’s so tiny that it’s not obvious at all and I’ve been taking it for granted.

Those little things that never cross my mind at all until I examine them closely one lonely night. I’m glad I got it and I appreciate you even more now. Or should I say, loving you more each day? *BLUSH*

I’ll wait… I’ll wait for the day. I’m hoping it to be soon but with the situation now, we know it won’t be soon but I’ll wait. Missing you heapssssssss!

My First Wax – Veet Wax Strips

Posted on April 17, 2009April 18, 2009 By sweet surrender 6 Comments on My First Wax – Veet Wax Strips

Actually I never plan to wax my legs. Never cross my mind at all until I bought Veet Wax Strips. This box is RM25+ if not mistaken. There was discount that time so it was below RM20.

I bought it to wax my bikini line *BLUSH* but ended up using it on my legs. This is because before you use it on your bikini line or underarm, you have to test it first if it’s your first time using it. The best place to test based on the instructions is your legs. That’s how I got hairless legs now! For the first time in my life, I’m having hairless legs! ;p I got lots of hair on my legs and some even quite coarse but I never bothered.

So? The result after using it? Really easy and fast. The pain is all right. Piece of cake for me.

However, for bikini line and underarm, I tried few days later after waxing my legs, it just didn’t work well. Nothing much came out.

The main reason is that you have to cut the strip into smaller strips but there’s a problem, see the photo below and you will understand.

There wasn’t enough wax and strength to grip the hair when you cut the strip small. The wax would come out from the sides of the strip that is cut and it’s very messy. ARG! The wax all ended up on the surrounding areas with not enough wax on the strip to grip the hair.

The lesson of the story is that, buy small size wax strips if you are going to wax small areas such as underarm and bikini line. Cutting big strip into small strips can’t do the job.

Love the sweet smell and how quick and easy to use. I do recommend it if you are new to waxing.

There are 4 wipes included for you to remove the wax residue and also to moisturise your skin. If you run out of it, you can always use baby oil.

This is only suitable for big areas even though the packaging stated that you can use it for underarm or bikini line. Well… Unless you have big surface for those areas then that’s different story.
