Happy Mid Autumn 2009

Posted on October 3, 2009 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Happy Mid Autumn 2009

Today is moon cake festival aka mid autumn festival. This is celebrated by the Chinese community on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calender every year.

Paid a visit to the Inter-Cultural Mooncake Festival long Carpenter Street, Ewe Hai Street, China Street, and Bishopgate Street with my family last night.

Not much stalls this year. Not many people too compare to previous years.

Bought some food there:

Left: Pork burger.
Right: Cotton candy.

Left: A pillar of cotton candy. It stood out from the crowd and stalls.
Right: Bought belacan bee hoon too.

How are you going to spend your mooncake festival this year? Nothing much for us, it’s just another day, had our mooncake since months back and no more left ;p

Some of the mooncake we bought. The box of mooncake was bought actually for my sister to bring back to UK. The rest you see here, we had eaten them last month.

This is one new type of mooncake that we bought, it’s called creamy milk tea. The brown part was lotus paste and the middle part was the part that had milk tea flavour. Nice or not? I don’t know! I’m not a mooncake lover but there’s really milk tea flavour in this mooncake.

Wish you all a happy mooncake festival and have fun!

Guilinggao

Posted on October 2, 2009 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Guilinggao

My aunt bought few containers of guilinggao back few months back. It’s not the usual type, it came with a small container of syrup(honey+fruit juice) for you to mix it with the guilinggao and this is flavoured guilinggao. Best served chilled.

Managed to try 4 different types of flavours: original, sweet osmanthus(gui hua), ginseng, and fructus momordicae(luo han guo). All were OK except sweet osmanthus(gui hua), it’s a bit sourish, I don’t like.

I remember last time I had guilinggao before and it stained my teeth, only managed to remove the stain after brushing my teeth. After that, I don’t dare to eat too much.

If you want to learn more about guilinggao, you can check out wiki for it.

Guīlínggāo is a Chinese medicine that is traditionally made with the powdered shell from the critically endangered three-lined box turtle (金錢龜) and China roots (土伏苓; Smilax glabra). It is also eaten as a dessert, made in the form of a jelly. Commercially available guīlínggāo are always sold as a dessert and do not contain turtle shell powder (despite the prominent turtle images on most brands). They do, however, share the same herbal additives as the medicine and are similarly marketed as being good for skin complexion when ingested.

KFC Cheezy Chickaroni

When it was first introduced I didn’t bother to try it out but after hearing some good feedbacks about it, I decided to try it out but they no longer selling it. Now… It’s back!

It’s good! I like it but too bad I was in a rush that day so I only had few mouths of it, the rest was finished up by my family.

The cheese used was the same as Cheezy wedges. If you love Cheezy wedges then you would love this too. You could find meatballs in there besides macaroni. It’s quite a filling dish even though it seemed very small in portion.

If I’m not mistaken, this set cost RM5+ came with a regular cup of soft drink.

Planet Sambal

Posted on September 30, 2009September 30, 2009 By sweet surrender 6 Comments on Planet Sambal

I knew about Planet Sambal months ago even before it’s opened for business but never got the chance to try out the place. Finally managed to try the place out. This place is halal, almost all of its customers were Muslims. The business was so good last Friday night, people come and go non stop! Crazily packed!

Left: Mango juice(RM2.50) and Cafe Mocha(RM2.80). I have no idea which brand of mango juice they were using, I didn’t like it, tasted so weird, didn’t feel like drinking mango juice at all. Mind you, it’s not fresh mango juice.

Right: I had my dinner already, not much snacks to order so I ordered fries(RM3). At least the fries were not bad, not oily and soggy.

Left: Mee Mamak(RM4.50), too sticky for our liking.

Right: Nasi Lemak Ayam Penyet(RM7), not sure how it tasted though but many people ordered it. This is available 24 hours. Planet Sambal is operating 24 hours a day.

Left: Wing Goreng aka fried chicken wing, 4 pieces for RM10. Very salty -.-”

Right: Telur Dadar aka omelette(RM2), according to the person that had it, it’s not good.

Hmmm… I guess the food there were not of our taste.

Vegetarian Fried Bee Hoon from Food Asia

Posted on September 29, 2009September 29, 2009 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Vegetarian Fried Bee Hoon from Food Asia

I’ve been hearing quite a number of positive feedback on Food Asia but never got the chance to try it until my dad bought a box back last weekend.

Food Asia delivers food to your doorstep(terms and conditions apply) or you can take away. They do not provide much table for you, they are very limited because they concentrate on take away food. They serve mainly vegetarian food.

This Vegetarian Fried Bee with tofu skin cost RM2.97, round up to RM3 even though the receipt that was printed didn’t round up the amount. So do not expect them to give you the change.

I’m not a fan of vegetarian food but there are some vegetarian food that I like such as the tofu skin(the brown pieces in the photo). The bee hoon wasn’t very oily and it’s not dry. It’s just nice, the portion was fine but do not expect them to fried it on the spot, it’s similar to fast food, they just scooped from the tray.

Where is the location? It’s at Abell Road, same row as Air Asia office. Just at the back of Bus Asia(totally not related to Air Asia ;p).

Blogging since 2002. Anything before 2006 is no longer available. It is no longer on this server. Back then, I built my own blog and updated it using HTML. No database or anything. Only started blogging fully with a CMS in 2006. However, whatever was on the Internet will stay on the Internet. So... It should be still somewhere on the Internet. Then again... Why do you want to dig that far?
