Level Up Fitness Grand Opening

Posted on October 30, 2009October 30, 2009 By sweet surrender 15 Comments on Level Up Fitness Grand Opening

The grand opening of Level Up Fitness is today. I went there just for fun ;p I was late for almost one hour because I went out late and took quite a bit of time to find parking.

Left: The overview of the exterior.
Right: Just a random shot.

Kenny giving his speech and introducing his gym.

FYI, I hate the light!!! See the people turned out so purplish? What is wrong with just using normal light? It looks horrible in photos and also not nice in actual scene.

After that, we headed to the front where the ribbon cutting ceremony and lion dance performance took place.

Saw Stephanie Chai there, so I took the opportunity to have photo with her since she wasn’t occupied that time.

After the opening ceremony ended, I asked Kenny and Stephanie for a photo but the photos turned out all blurred because it’s not bright enough and I didn’t activate the flash. So a bit of movement will cause them to become blurry. I’m so short even with heels -.-” Hahaha…

They had photo shooting session at the stage and the reception counter so I joined the others to take some photos.

After that we had lunch. Then I joined the 1-hour Body Combat session without sports shoes, I did it barefooted hehehe… It’s quite painful coz the floor was hard but when I got used to it, it’s quite OK though. Still, it’s better to wear shoes ;p Body Combat really rocks! It’s not boring like those martial arts. I’m so bad in my coordination but with more practices, this will not be much of a problem.

Wait till I get my sports shoes first then I redeem my membership to fully utilized the gym for one month. Not November though, I definitely cannot find a sports shoes in such short time frame coz I’m so the very picky with shoes! Told you before I can go all over Kuching just for a pair of shoes ;p Maybe in December? Hmm… Maybe next year after CNY coz December is my exam month, then I’ll be away for traveling for about a week in January 2010, then February 2010 is CNY. Aiks… December seems to be the best time. We’ll see how by then. Just go as the flow.

So if you want to join, sign up quickly before the RM99/month for a year offer is gone, do it before November! Else you won’t get to enjoy such fee for a year.

Not Bumiputera if Your Mother isn’t One

Posted on October 29, 2009October 29, 2009 By sweet surrender 16 Comments on Not Bumiputera if Your Mother isn’t One

I was shocked when I read the newspaper today regarding how a person is perceived as a bumiputera or otherwise in Sarawak. You can read the original article, Being ‘mixed’ is no privilege.

Before I go further, this post is not about pointing finger or to create any racial issue, so please read it carefully before you contribute your “smart” inputs. Also, please do not bring up the religion issue because it’s not related to this post, this post is about race, not religion. Not only that, being a Sarawakian doesn’t mean you are a bumiputera.

I’m just sharing the way I look at this matter for being a person who is of mixed parentage. I’m not a bumiputera because my father is Chinese and my mother is Bidayuh. Everyone knows, for my case I cannot be considered one and I have no complain about it. I fill in formal forms stating that I’m Chinese because my father is Chinese, I cannot fill in the forms saying that I’m Bidayuh because my name doesn’t reflect that at all. I’m not entitle to the privilege that a bumiputera can enjoy.

Let’s go back to the news article.

All these while, majority of us think that if a child’s father is a bumiputera, he/she will automatically be one regardless of the mother’s race in Sarawak. However, this news article told us that we are wrong! DEAD WRONG!

(If the father and mother is a native of Sarawak as defined under Article 161A(6)(b) of the Federal Constitution, the child is considered a Bumiputera).

“I think to solve this problem. Article 161(A) of the Federal Constitution has to be amended. The article says that in Sarawak, both parents have to be ‘exclusively’ a native,” Ronnie said.

So for those that are affected by this, I know many! Inter-racial marriage is very common here in Sarawak. All these while, these children with bumiputera fathers and non-bumiputera mothers are known as bumiputeras by majority of us and even in school too.

Their fathers are bumiputeras, they carry bumiputera’s names, and they mostly follow the bumiputera’s lifestyles. Even in filling in formal forms for various applications be it government or non-government related, they are stating their race as either Bidayuh, Iban, Melanau… Instead of Chinese or India. Now, with the news article, they are supposed to be the same race as their mothers’ not their fathers’. All these while, they are filling in the wrong field!?!?

Think of it another way, this will indirectly reduce the number of bumiputeras in Sarawak because these children are not considered as bumiputeras. As we all know, being a bumiputera, you have many privileges. I have many friends that are of mixed parentage whereby the fathers are bumiputeras but not their mothers. They’ve been enjoying all these privileges with no issues at all. They also proudly known themselves as bumiputeras. However, according to the Federal Constitution, they are not qualified for all these privileges at all. Then, how come they get to enjoy it?

Very confusing. The more I write, the more I reason, the more confusing I’m getting.

Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that, in Sarawak, these children are not considered bumiputeras even though their fathers are. How sad? How odd?

I’m pretty sure there are many people that are affected or not affected are as shock as I am, if not for the news article, we will still be thinking that as long that the child’s father is a bumiputera, he/she is automatically a bumiputera. Sarawak is indeed different from other state. Very complicated. Very unique too.

As for 1 Malaysia? Hmmm… I can never understand how this whole thing works, it baffles the hell out of me. Guess maybe I’m just too stupid to understand.

To me, when you are talking about 1 Malaysia, it should be making everyone equal rather than having differences of privileges because of different races, religions, or states. Everyone should have the same rights too. If not how can we call ourselves as being one? Summore with this article about mixed parentage whereby a person is not a bumiputera if the mother is not a bumiputera. It’s even harder to achieve this 1 Malaysia thing.

I don’t see that it’s possible to make everyone equal in Malaysia. At least not now, maybe 100 years or more later which I surely won’t be here to see it.

However, I know that in Malaysia, Sarawak is one good role model in terms of racial harmony whereby all races live harmoniously together and you can even find a Malay stall next to a kolomee stall. Non Malays and Malays having their kopi sharing the same table in a non-halal kopitiam, non Malays eating their kolomee and Malays eating their mee goreng on the same table, sometimes sharing food from the same plate and happily chit chatting with each other. Where can you see such scene?

Vono Instant Soup

Posted on October 28, 2009October 28, 2009 By sweet surrender 4 Comments on Vono Instant Soup

Streamyx is having problem again. Sigh… Just quick update for now. Hopefully it will be back to normal later. On Celcom now, my life saver even though it’s not very good.

Vono Instant Soup, I’ve been having this for some breakfast lately. It’s quick and easy to prepare. I’m pretty lazy in some morning, this is my breakfast. Bought 4 boxes at RM10+ few weeks back, it came with a free mug.

Just boil 150ml of water or just use the mug to measure as there’s a line to indicate the water level needed for the instant soup. Boil the water, pour into the mug with the instant soup powder, stir quickly. As simple as that.

Which one I like most? I prefer the one with cheese. I dislike the one with chicken.

I know this is not a very healthy breakfast ;p Don’t really care, it’s not like I’m having it everyday.

Level Up Fitness Preview

Posted on October 26, 2009October 30, 2009 By sweet surrender 8 Comments on Level Up Fitness Preview

I’m having a long semester break this time. I thought my class will start on Sunday and was intended to only attend the early part of Level Up Fitness preview and leave at around 1pm. Kenny Sia, the founder of Level Up invited us to join the preview(Levelling Up with Bloggers) whereby we got the chance to check out the place before the grand opening this Friday.

At 11.30am, I reached Level Up.

Left: The reception counter. Level Up starts here.

Right: After you leveled up, be sure to Juice Up to replace your body water loss.

Took some photos with Amiey and also around the gym.

Models were there for us to take photos. I didn’t take much photos of the models because my battery was low, I forgot to bring extra battery with me.

I went there with slippers because I did not intend to join any workout there. Also, I don’t have a pair sport shoes ;p

This is the second level. More photos of the models.

I’m not really into these gym equipments and I have treadmill and stationary bicycle at home that I never bother to use. That’s why I never think of joining any gym. Furthermore, gym membership is expensive! Don’t have such money to join but you will be surprised with the fee Level Up is charging. Sign up now before November and you will only pay RM99/month for a year! You will have full access to everything there.

The lady changing area. The guys got rare chance to visit it and they were only allowed in yesterday ;p They spent a lot of time in there taking photos of the models *LOL* Aiks… I just realized I forgot to include the photos of the men’s changing area. While they were busy in the lady changing area, some of us went into the men changing area.

Left: Met Kenny so many times and this is the first time I have photo with him, only with him. Believe it or not? This is so rare ;p Photo quality is bad because of my setting, I forgot to set to the right setting. Took 3 shoots and all blurred -.-”

Right: Kenny showing the model how to pose.

More photos of the models.

Group photo! So many cameras there, imagine how long this photo session was. Thanks to Jeffrey for taking the photos.

Food we had after the photo session.

I was thinking of leaving after Kenny briefed us about his gym. Then found out that pilates didn’t need me to wear shoes, it’s done barefooted. Since I have the time, I decided to join.

After the session, we(Anna, Rose, and Naomi) camwhored.

Left: This is one of the movements we had learnt. Nice photo. I like it. I found out that some of the movements I did at home on my own are actually pilates movements.

While we were busy camwhoring, Kenny suddenly slid in between the camera and us and you see what happen? I said that he looked like a beached whale but later notice that it’s more like a seal *LOL* Anyway, I did something that I’m not supposed to do to him, sorry… I got too carried away -.-”

Thanks for inviting us, giving us 1-month of free gym membership, the gym bag, and a towel. Was also given with one t-shirt also when we decided to join the pilates session.

In fact I was thinking of redeeming the membership today by joining the belly dance session but I changed my mind. I think better go get a sport shoes first so that I can take full advantage of the membership. I’m only interested in the group exercise rather than the equipments.

By the way, this is a unisex gym so the group exercise sessions are opened to all the members regardless of age and gender.
