Happy Mid-autumn Festival 2008

Posted on September 14, 2008September 15, 2008 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Happy Mid-autumn Festival 2008

Ok… What’s your plan today? Me? Later I have class to attend. Nothing much, no lantern to play also hahaha… Haven’t eat any mooncake today but since 2 months back we’ve been eating a lot of mooncakes hahaha… There are still one more box not open yet. Most mooncakes especially in the fancy boxes were given my people, we don’t buy such thing ;p

So… Let me feast you you with some mooncakes:

From my aunt. Only managed to take photos of these two as I was around. The rest don’t know where they had gone to that’s why no photos hahaha…

From my sis’ friend. Haven’t eat yet :p

The only mooncake my dad bought from his friend’s son’s bakery. It’s called Hokkaido Kelp, hmmm… Not much comment about it, just like any other mooncake, it’s sweet *LOL*

I don’t like mooncakes coz of the sweetness. Eat one small slice, one eight of it is fine, any bigger than that, I would not be able to finish it hahaha… I can never get myself to eat one whole mooncake on my own -.- it might took me days or even weeks to finish it hahaha…

Happy mid-autumn festival!

Inter-cultural Mooncake Festival 2008

Posted on September 13, 2008September 26, 2023 By sweet surrender 6 Comments on Inter-cultural Mooncake Festival 2008

WAH! It’s been raining every evening and finally there’s no rain last night. The Inter-cultural Mooncake Festival 2008 started on 10th but the first 2 nights rained so badly that I’m sure they couldn’t do anything much.

Last night, after attending my replacement class, I went there with my family. Traffic jam at that area but it’s not that hard to find parking. I didn’t bring my camera and ended up using my mobile phone for photos.

It’s very hard to take photos there with the crowd and don’t feel very nice taking photos of the stalls there when I’m not even buying from them. Bought nothing home hahaha… Here are some photos to show you.

Durian

Posted on September 12, 2008September 14, 2008 By sweet surrender 4 Comments on Durian

Hehehe… Just had durian last week. I don’t think I had posted any in this blog, blogged about it in my previous non-CMS blog. I got new photos to show you and reintroduce durian to you. *LOL* I have so many pending photos to edit, haven’t have the time yet, so just do a quick update here.

Here’s what I got from wiki:

The durian (IPA: [ˈd(j)ÊŠriÉ™n, -É‘n]) is the fruit of trees from the genus Durio belonging to the Malvaceae, a large family which includes hibiscus, okra, cotton, mallows, and linden trees. Widely known and revered in Southeast Asia as the “King of Fruits”, the fruit is distinctive for its large size, unique odour, and formidable thorn-covered husk.

The durian, native to Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia, has been known to the western world for about 600 years. The British naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace famously described its flesh as “a rich custard highly flavoured with almonds” in the 19th century.

Southeast Asian folk beliefs, as well as traditional Chinese medicine, consider the durian fruit to have warming properties liable to cause excessive sweating. The traditional method to counteract this is to pour water into the empty shell of the fruit after the pulp has been consumed and drink it. An alternative method is to eat the durian in accompaniment with mangosteen, which is considered to have cooling properties. Pregnant women or people with high blood pressure are traditionally advised not to consume durian.

Another common local belief is that the durian is harmful when eaten with coffee or alcoholic beverages. The latter belief can be traced back at least to the 18th century when Rumphius stated that one should not drink alcohol after eating durians as it will cause indigestion and bad breath.

What else you want to share about durian? I personally prefer the one that comes with a hint of bitterness.

My parents bought then on the way back from Sadong. Don’t remember how much, they bought 5 durians back.

Frankly I don’t really like to eat durian now, a bit is fine, not too many. The smell could linger on for days. Nice to eat but not so nice to smell hahaha…

Nona Marble Cake Mix

Posted on September 11, 2008September 20, 2022 By sweet surrender 9 Comments on Nona Marble Cake Mix

I baked a marble cake few weeks back. The lazy me went to bought the cake mix instead of sourcing out the ingredients myself hahaha…

This is the cake mix I bought, Nona Marble Cake Mix, you only need to add 4 eggs. The rest of the ingredients are already pre-mix and all in the box. It cost me RM7+. I just follow the instruction on the box.

Beat the margerine with egg then add on the flour. Mix well using high speed.

Place half of the mixture to another bowl and mix the cocoa powder.

Now, you got two colours of batter, layer them. I just followed the box’s instructions(misinterprete it) *LOL* It turned out become layer cake istead of marble cake hahaha… You will see later.

Don’t be fool by the marble pattern 😛 It’s just my bro took those batter that stucked to the bowl and “draw” on the yellowish layer hahaha… Since our baking tray is small, we put some into the cupcake cups.

Place in the oven with 180 degree Celcius, 45 minutes! GOSH! In fact, 15 minutes is more than enough! Since my convection mode was not really in good condition already, I opt for another mode. I thought it will required 45 minutes also -.-” I stoped it at about 20 minutes plus later because it seemed drying up. Ended up… Stone marble cake! Or I would stay stone layer cake hahaha… If I didn’t check on it, it would be BLACK!

Shouldn’t layer the batter like this, should have the first original batter as the base, then add on some cocoa batter on top without spreading it as a layer but just random spots, then pour the original one again, then cocoa one again, so on and so forth. After that, poke the skewer into the batter and “draw” in zig-zag motion. If you have it one layer of original batter, another one layer brown so on and so forth, there is no way you can “draw” any pattern at all and ended up like this.

As for the one in cupcake cups, they were just all right just fail in the pattern ;p. I used another oven for this. The normal oven, not the “high tech” type like the earlier one. For this, it really needs about 45 minutes.

So… Hahaha… My failed marble cake. This is even made from cake mix summore. What a shame hahaha… I never bake one successful cake so far hahaha… Cookies are easier 😛

Random Photos from Sugar Bun

Posted on September 10, 2008September 10, 2008 By sweet surrender 8 Comments on Random Photos from Sugar Bun

Pretty tired today… Just a quick update.

Showing you some set meals that you can get from Sugar Bun hahaha… Had this few weeks back with my family. The meat quality was very disappointing, it was dry and small. I noticed that there’s no consistency in their chicken. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it bad.

Anyway, enjoy the very yellowish photos of chicken and fist fillet set meal.
