Angaston Roaring 40’s Cafe

Posted on June 5, 2012June 6, 2012 By sweet surrender No Comments on Angaston Roaring 40’s Cafe

Ooopsss… Wrong labels on the photos ;p Should be “Angaston” not “Pensfolds” ;p Besides, I spelled it wrongly too hahah… Should be “Penfolds”.

Anyway, let’s continue our journey.

Before continuing our journey to taste more wine, we had to fill our stomach. Off we went to Angaston just for the best pizza in Australia! WOW! Can’t wait!

Not sure what’s this building. Should be a winery since this is a wine producing region.

So… Here we go… It’s quite a long drive though. We just followed our friend’s car. He knew the way, he went there before. He told us it’s the best pizza in town but he was wrong. You’ll know why later.

Love the views along the way, it’s autumn, leaves are turning orange, such amazing shades.

We are here, the cosy town where the best pizza restaurant is located. Who would expect it?

All these while we were told it’s the best in the town but apparently my friend was wrong! It’s the best in Australia and has been winning years after years of various F&B awards. The owner is 2009 best pizza maker in Australia!

It was packed! We had to wait but luckily it’s not a long wait for a table for 7.

While waiting for our food, we saw these on our table. Ice cream! So pretty! Didn’t try it though.

Here’s what we had:

Left: I think this should be large Caesar salad. There’s cos lettuce, bacon, croutons, pecorino cheese, pureed anchovies in egg mayonnaise ($15.90), not enough for 7 of us to share *lol*. Anyway, don’t have to worry because have 3 pizzas coming our way.

Right: Small Smokey Pizza (9-inch, $24). You’ll get tomato sauce, cheese, mettwurst, lachsschinken, shallots, schulz butcher‟s mallee gum smoked pork belly & smoked chicken on it.

Left: Best of the best S.A. Seafood (9-inch, $25). There’s tomato sauce, fresh char grilled squid, scallops, prawns & king fish with oregano & dill accompanied by mussels in coriander, chilli, lime juice & fish sauce, garnished with shavings of pecorino cheese. OMG!! Heavenly! Generous toppings. Loaded and there’s no way you can eat with just your fingers. Worth every single cents! Beware of the chillies though, I ate two tiny pieces, it’s extremely spicy! Seriously spicy, even us Malaysians got our tongues numbed by it.

Right: Damon’s Vindaloo Extreme (9-inch, $23). Tomato sauce, mushroom, capsicum, ‘Damon’s very spicy beef vindaloo’, topped with yoghurt & baby spinach on the pizza. This is very spicy too, it’s not toned down for the Aussies. It’s real deal spicy! Those of us who didn’t eat the chilli on the seafood pizza were overwhelmed by its spiciness but for us who accidentally ate the chilli, we felt nothing ;p not spicy at all.

All in all, the pizzas were awesome!!

Barossa Valley Autumn 2012 – Part 1

Posted on June 3, 2012April 14, 2014 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Barossa Valley Autumn 2012 – Part 1

After The Whispering Wall, we headed to wineries in Barossa Valley.

Really love this view.

Mountainous and magnificent views. Can’t help it but marvelled at mother nature’s creation. I can’t even find this kind of view back in Malaysia. However, in Las Vegas, it’s all the grand skyscrapers with colourful lights.

We went in two cars and the car I’m in was more like tagging along ;p our friend led the way. Can’t see his car in the photos. Isn’t the autumn view nice? Winter would be miserable I guess… Unless there’s bright sun and blue sky.

Our first stop was Jacob’s Creek. I’ve been there last year. This year, I’m there again. The view never failed me. I managed to try variuos types of moscato. So many people there that day because it’s a weekend. However, last year when I was there, it’s was also a weekend, there’s not many people at all. Hmmm… How come?

After Jacob’s Creek, we headed to another winery.

Happy Gawai 2012

Posted on June 2, 2012June 3, 2012 By sweet surrender No Comments on Happy Gawai 2012

Selamt Hari Gawai to those who are celebrating it and happy long weekend for those not celebrating. However, I guess everyone is Sarawak is celebrating no matter it’s directly or indirectly. Should post this yesterday but was busy.

So… How I spent my Gawai here. I thought it will be the same old day for me but a SMS yesterday evening just made the day more interesting. At least I’m not spending it alone. Had nice dinner. Really like the fish but didn’t take photo of what I had last night as I’ve been there quite a number of times. Our bill came up to AUD66.60 which made my friend went “OH NO! It’s devil’s number! Not good! First day of June and triple 6, so many six, not good!” *LOL*

Anyway, today is the second day of Gawai, gonna join the farewell party tonight. Sigh… One friend is leaving today, another on Monday. Gonna miss those fun days with these friends in the computer pool. 🙁 Worst, the one leaving on Monday is the friend who we share our ups and downs and skeleton in the closet with each other. There were 3 of us, one left last year, then there’s 2 of us, now… I’m alone. Bad…

Have fun people! Drink moderately, better don’t drive after drinking. Play safe!

The Whispering Wall

Posted on May 31, 2012May 31, 2012 By sweet surrender 1 Comment on The Whispering Wall

The Whispering Wall. Wanted to go there in the previous Barossa Valley trip last year but was too late. It closed at 5pm. Didn’t expect to be able to go there again.

We started our journey from the city at 9am. Stopped by Hungry’s Jack for breakfast before heading to Barossa Valley. You can Visit www.cheapholidays.com to find out whether you will be able to get any cheap holiday to Adelaide or not. Once you’re here, go on a road trip and this is one place you might want to check it out.

To visit the Whispering Wall, travel to Williamstown in the Barossa Valley and follow the signposts from the main street.

What is Whipering Wall? It’s actually a retaining wall of the Barossa Reservoir which was built between 1899 and 1903. It was such an engineering feat that it had grabbed attention of the wall. Can even be found in pages of the journal Scientific American. All these said, I didn’t even know *LOL* I only know you can just whisper from one end and those at the other end will be able to hear you. It was quite fun hahaha… One end to another is more than 100 metres.

Since that day was a great day, the sun was bright, the sky was blue, hence you get such view. Very nice scenery. So glad that it was such a fine weather for such road trip.

The German Cake Shop

Posted on May 30, 2012July 15, 2013 By sweet surrender 1 Comment on The German Cake Shop

After lunch, we went to The German Cake Shop to get beesting aka Bienenstich. I’m sure The German Cake Shop is not stranger to most South Australians. If I’m not mistaken, this is the only shop that sells beesting cake in Hahndorf. Can’t find it in other place too but heard there’s one around South Road selling this cake too. It’s not a common dessert. Most people I know will ask whoever going to Hahndorf to help them buy this delicious cake. I think I should do so too next time.

It’s a must to have it when you’re in Hahndorf but I didn’t have it last year hahah… I didn’t know about this until that day.

Left: Can you spot beesting? I heard other desserts there are also very tasty.

Right: The big one costs AUD10 an small one is AUD5. It’s YUMMY! Two thumbs up from me. Gosh! Heavenly! I want to have it again. It’s not overly sweet. Bienenstich or ‘Bee sting cake’ is a German dessert made of a sweet yeast dough with a baked-on caramelized almonds on top and filled with vanilla custard, Buttercream or cream. I tried looking for the recipe, found it but seemed quite complicated. Hopefully I can try to make it one day.

After we bought it, we brought it over to another place to have it with beer. The beesting which looked messy in this picture was the aftermath of us cutting it to share ;p

*DROOL*

Oh no! I’m craving for it now. What should I do? When will I be able to have it again? On the other note, I wish I’ll get to have beesting as my birthday cake this year.
