Last night during our class break, our Muslim classmates asked us to join them for breaking fast. Supposed to be half an hour break but we extended it till 1 hour. They asked the whole class including the lecturer to go since our class was at night and clashed with dinner and breaking fast time but they didn’t want to. However, almost the whole class went.
Initial plan was to go to the stalls just next to the ex-state mosque but they changed plan because it’s not opened and the food is limited since majority that would be going are Chinese and they were afraid that we didn’t know how to eat those *LOL* Off we went, Dayang and Jazemine drove us there.
Kafe Bunda is located at the shop lot next to AmBank at Jalan Haji Taha near Satok. It’s at the road side and it’s easy to locate.
According to Jazemine, this is one of the places she patrons for food. They ordered something we all had never seen before! It was a gastronomy experience really… Living in Kuching for my whole 26 years and I don’t even know such food exist!
It’s called Ayam Penyet. The sambal(chili) is really SYIOK! YUMMILICIOUS! The chicken is tender and juicy. Those greens are either blanched or raw, in other word we called it “ulam”. It’s really tasty. We didn’t eat much as we had our dinner already, we just got some from them to try and accompanied them and we gossiped! Girls… What to do? *LOL*
This is my first time breaking fast with my Muslim friends even though I had many Muslim friends back then in secondary school, we never done anything like this. This is also my first time see and taste Ayam Penyet! Not only that, it’s also my first time hang out with all girls with no guys, I usually hang out with many guys in a group or I’m the only girl ;p How can we not take photos right? We don’t get to do this everyday.
Hmm… Don’t think they will mind to have their faces shown here hehehe… Any familiar face(s)? So who went that night? (In no particular order) Hui Siew, Nicole, Anastasia, Esther, Dayang, Jazemine, Irene(this is another Irene, yea… I have a classmate with the same name as me) and I. This number of poeple is almost the whole class already.
Our class is very naughty and we always got a lot of junk food supplies during class or break. Food would be passed from one to another during class, busy munching on our junk food and our poor lecturer would be in front teaching. Everyone eats from the same packaging regardless of races, this is the spirit that we all Malaysians should have.
While people was busy with 9/16, we we were busy having Ayam Penyet session.
Oooohhh.. Must try that, next time I’m there.
It’s quite nice 😉
FYI, Ayam Penyet originated from Indonesia.
