LG RELEASES 2022-2023 SUSTAINABILITY REPORT

Posted on August 6, 2023 By sweet surrender No Comments on LG RELEASES 2022-2023 SUSTAINABILITY REPORT

Company Outlines Its Six Strategic Tasks for ESG Management.
Focused on Achieving ‘3Cs’ for the Planet and ‘3Ds’ for People

SEOUL, 2 August 2023 — LG Electronics (LG) today announced the publication of its 2022-2023 Sustainability Report, officially disclosing its achievements and strategy for each area of the six strategic tasks, which have been carefully designed to realise its Better Life for All ESG vision, to customers and stakeholders around the world.

2022-2023 Sustainability Report

The company is focusing on two major areas: ‘3Cs’ for the planet, which are carbon neutrality, circularity and clean technology, and ‘3Ds’ for people, which are design for all, a decent workplace and diversity & inclusion.

3Cs for the Planet: Carbon Neutrality, Circularity and Clean Technology

This year, LG’s global sites recorded a total global emissions of direct (scope 1) and indirect (scope 2) greenhouse gases (GHG) of 92.7 million tons,* a 22 million ton decrease from the previous year – a reduction that supports its pledge to achieve net-zero (direct and indirect) by 2030.

The company also recorded a renewable energy conversion rate of 8.2 percent. This comes after it committed to only using renewable energy at its global business sites by 2050 and successfully joined RE100 (Renewable Energy 100), an initiative advocating for businesses to convert to 100 percent renewable energy.

The company is also accelerating carbon reduction in the product use stage by expanding the application of highly efficient eco-friendly technologies. Approximately 80 percent of LG’s total carbon emissions come from the product use stage, and includes indirect emissions (scope 3) that are generated outside the company’s operational facilities. Last year, the functional unit carbon emissions of seven major products, which accounts for about 80 percent of the carbon emissions generated during the product use stage, decreased by 13.1 percent compared to 2020. Functional unit carbon emission refers to the value obtained by dividing the amount of GHG emitted during the average period of product use by the functional unit of the product. For example, a refrigerator’s GHG emissions are expressed per liter while a washing machine’s GHG emissions are conveyed per kilogram. In addition, in 2021, LG became the first South Korean appliance manufacturer to have its GHG emissions reduction target at the product use stage (scope 3) validated by Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

To establish a circular ecosystem, the company recovered a total of 472,876 tons of electronic waste from 52 countries last year. Since 2006, LG has recovered a cumulative total of recovered electronic waste that amounts to 3,992,768 tons. As of 2022, the number of recycled plastics used in the company’s products reached 32,987 tons, 25 percent higher than 2021 figures. What’s more, the company’s South Korean business sites recently received Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL) verification.

3Ds for People: Design for All, Decent Workplace and Diversity & Inclusion

LG has also been prioritising accessibility by integrating voice recognition and voice guidance features into its major products and distributing braille stickers that attach to every LG home appliance. The company also plans to expand the universal design concept – products designed in a way that makes them easy to use by everyone – to all products going forward.

Last year, the company surveyed its major Tier 1 suppliers about their energy usage and carbon emissions, and then verified this data through a third party. Since this year, LG has been raising awareness among the executives and employees of its partners through a carbon neutrality education program. A total of 152 suppliers have participated in the program as of the first half of this year.

In addition, in accordance with international Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) standards, the company is also providing support through third-party ESG certification reviews to preemptively respond to ESG risks of suppliers in areas such as labor, environment, ethics as well as health and safety. Beginning this year, the scope has been expanded to include partners based not only in Korea but around the world.

Expanding Role of ESG Committee

LG continues to expand the role of the ESG Committee which reports to its board of directors to internalise ESG management. The committee, made up of 4 independent directors and 1 executive CEO, is overseen by chairman Seo Seung-woo, an independent director who was appointed to the role earlier this year.

Last year, to ensure transparency in the management and governance of the board of directors and governance structure, the ESG Committee established guidelines for the independence, diversity and expertise of independent directors as well as the corporate governance charter.

Since 2006, the company has published its sustainability report every year. Starting last year, alongside the LG ESG Fact Book which outlines its ESG management goals, activities and performance, the company has published the ESG Story Book which helps customers and stakeholders understand LG’s ESG activities in a more engaging story format.

A Reliable Web Hosting – Hostinger

Posted on February 28, 2023February 28, 2023 By sweet surrender No Comments on A Reliable Web Hosting – Hostinger

I subscribed to a new web hosting back in May 2022. It took me months to scout around for the one. In the end, I decided to sign up with Hostinger. All the transfers and setup were smooth sailing. I officially move my blog here in June 2022.

Throughout the setting up, I only encountered one issue and it was fixed promptly. It’s actually not really a big problem and not their problem too. It is simply having one link not updated as the database was copied from the previous server. All I need to do was to change the link manually in PhpMyAdmin which I totally forgot. Fortunately, the support was helpful. They helped me with it. It was done promptly even though it was already midnight.

The communication was easy. While I was waiting, they had a shift changed and I was informed of it. When the new support took over, I didn’t even need to repeat the problem. It was handover properly. They knew what was going on. Then, they gave me two options. One way was that they guide me through it while another was to let them do it. I told them I need to go off and couldn’t go through the fix with them as it is late already. They assured me that they will fix it and update me via my email.

When I woke up in the morning, it was fixed. They even sent a copy of the chat and what they had done to fix the issue. The support was phenomenal! I’m impressed.

Hostinger

I highly recommend Hostinger if you are looking for new hosting to move to.

Happy New Year 2023!

Posted on January 2, 2023January 2, 2023 By sweet surrender No Comments on Happy New Year 2023!

Happy New Year 2023 to all of you!

How fast?! Where did 2022 go? It’s 2023 now! Today is the second day of 2023 already. In 20 days’ time, the Lunar New Year will be coming. I will be busy baking and making some new year’s goodies these few weeks.

2022 was well… I don’t know… It’s too fast for me to process. What’s most important is that I’ve got through the year peacefully. I do not reflect too. What’s done is done. Move on!

There won’t be resolutions for 2023. I don’t do any. I will go with the flow and act accordingly. Why stress yourself with all those resolutions? *shrug* Most important is having an uneventful life. Peaceful, quiet, and healthy.

Just a quick post today.

Here’s my post on Instagram yesterday haha… These photos were taken with Realme C35 “smile shutter” feature. It’s pretty fun. Save so much time on selfies. I did do post-processing with AirBrush app.

Realme C35 Unbox, Camera Test, Quick Review

Posted on November 30, 2022November 30, 2022 By sweet surrender 1 Comment on Realme C35 Unbox, Camera Test, Quick Review

If you’ve been following me on my social media accounts, you would know that I’ve gotten myself a new phone last month. It’s a Realme C35 (6GB + 128GB ROM). It costs RM799. Initially, I wanted to get a Realme 9 (6GB) but too bad no stock. I’ve been using it for over a month now. In this post, I’ll give you a quick review of it.

Realme C35
Realme C35 Unbox
Camera Quick Test

The photo quality isn’t bad. At least better than my old phone. The 50MP AI Camera sure helps.

However, I dislike the colour profile of the video in certain lighting conditions. The most obvious is if I do my cooking video with the natural lighting in the kitchen. It’s very pastel and dull. Still prefer Huawei’s. Here’s the first full video I did with it. You can compare my other cooking videos with this one.

Aside from that, I dislike it does not have a beauty filter feature for Video mode whether for the front or back cameras. I thought this feature is very common to have because my old phone has it and it’s even cheaper than this.

Oh well… What can you ask for with such a price? It’s acceptable to have such shortcomings. You can’t have everything.

Don’t even talk about stabilizer for the camera haha… It’s impossible to have it for such a price. That is too much to ask for LOL!!

Saving Photos/Videos to External MicroSD Card

I did encounter a problem with configuring the phone to save photos/videos to the external microSD card. Tried looking for solutions online but found nothing. In case you are having this problem too, do check out the post I did last month, Realme C35 – How to Save Photos/Videos to SD Card . However, not all apps have the option to save the files to the microSD card. It’s OK. As long those from the camera go to the card will do.

Overall Quick Review

After using it for over a month and having gone to Singapore with me, I would say that it is not a bad phone at all with a price of less than RM800. It performed better than expected. At least for my usage.

The battery usage is up to its claim. It could last me more than 36 hours or even longer if I hardly use it. For my daily usage, I’m not a heavy user as I spend more time on my computer than the phone, I will still have at least 50% remaining after the last charge over 18 hours ago.

If I’m using it heavily for content creation (Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Capcut, XHS, photo editing), it will roughly drain 10% to 20% of the battery’s life. Usually, I will spend about 1 to 2 hours on it.

Well, this is a new phone, the battery should be able to last long. If it doesn’t then there’s definitely a problem with the battery and you will need to bring it back to the shop.

Meanwhile, for the processing power, so far so good too. Not lagging and I don’t have many apps installed anyway.

In conclusion, it is good enough for my usage and the price is within my budget. It did exceed my expectations. Not too bad.

Where to Get?

You can get the Realme C35 (4GB RAM + 64GB ROM) here in Shopee (https://invle.co/clen7pc). Mine is 6GB + 128GB ROM which you can find easily in physical mobile phone shops. While the SD card I’m using is SanDisk Ultra microSDXC USH-I 128GB (https://invle.co/clen7y8)

In case you missed it, these are something you should know about HUAWEI’s King of Smartphones

Point and Shoot Like a Pro

Jumping straight into the main attraction of the new Mate50 is the breakthrough mobile camera imaging technology, XMAGE, which features a 10-size adjustable physical aperture, Ultra Aperture Camera, Super Night Mode, Professional Portrait and Super Macro.

By focusing on four technical pillars; optical system, mechanical structure, imaging technology, and imaging processing – the Mate50 features HUAWEI’s unique mobile camera that represents a significant advancement in the mobile imaging system. Ultra-Aperture Camera System with 10-Size Adjustable Physical Aperture, the Industry’s Largest Aperture of F1.4, Super Night Mode, Professional Portrait, and Super Macro are all included in the XMAGE Camera System, which outperformed its predecessors on every level.

In Other Words, You Don’t Need a Screen Protector

Additionally, the Huawei Mate50 Pro Orange Vegan Leather version incorporates the latest screen and build durability advancements, including Anti-Scratch, Anti-Fall, and water resistance for up to 6 metres of depth.

The first-ever five-star glass drop-resistant certification from Switzerland’s SGS, KunLun glass, established a new standard for screen durability. This amounts to a smartphone with ten times greater drop resistance than the previous Mate series thanks to its 10 quadrillion-level nanocrystals.

Smarter Battery, Longer Use

The flagship device is also equipped with their latest battery technology that is enhanced with Super Energy Boosting Technology to fully maximise your phone capabilities

To find the sweet spot between battery life, fast charging, and portability, HUAWEI outfitted its flagship smartphone with 4,700mAh and 66W HUAWEI SuperCharge. In addition to this, the latest Low-battery Emergency Mode from HUAWEI combines a high-specification battery and the SuperEnergy Boosting technology to make the most of your phone’s potential. Making it possible for you to keep going despite being in a tight situation, giving you up to 2 hours of standby or up to 12 minutes phone call with just 1% battery.

Enhanced Steps to Protect User Privacy

You can be assured that your personal information is safe with the HUAWEI AppGallery as it features a built-in security check. With a 4-stage privacy check mechanism that provides complete confidentiality in any circumstance:

  • Developer Real-name authentication
  • Four security check measures
  • Installation security
  • Operation defence mechanism

HUAWEI makes sure that apps are safe from the development stage until they are installed with the built-in security check. With just one click, users can scan for viruses, check for fraud, protect their privacy, and security tips.

Introducing the EMUI 13

In continuing with their goal of creating a productive and efficient user interface, the Mate50 will be the first to run on EMUI13 to give their users a Super Device Experience.

HUAWEI is committed to developing user interfaces that are both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional. The EMUI13 includes improved user interface elements through Service Widgets that can display all the relevant data consumers require. Not forgetting the behind the scene function, EMUI13 will help you free up to 20GB of space on your device by merging similar data, compressing rarely used programmes, and preventing redundant downloads which the user might not be aware of.
