Union Yes Retreat & Training Centre

Posted on April 27, 2010April 28, 2010 By sweet surrender 3 Comments on Union Yes Retreat & Training Centre

Decided to check out Union Yes Retreat & Training Centre. This is latest resort(not really new but it had finally opened for public somewhere last year, previously it’s only for the members of SBEU) in Lundu which got many people talking about. The junction to go into the resort, the road was bad! Potholes everywhere -.-” At first we thought we had gone into the wrong place. Kept driving and finally saw the building.

Left: The signboard that greeted us outside the lobby.

Right: The check-in counter.

When I walked in, I was quite surprised and couldn’t believe my eyes that this is in Sarawak. I never see blue sea here! Blue sea and blue sky is not common here. This definitely blew me away for a moment. Not the blue swimming pool. Look beyond the swimming pool.

Left: The other side of the swimming pool.

Right: The main building of the resort. I just realized I forgot to include the picture of Rafflesia Cafe.

Left: The chalets.

Right: The area in front of the chalets. You can play football here.

The overall view of the building.

Left: Blue sea, blue sky, blue mountain. Nice!

Right: Fancy beach volley ball? You can get the facility here.

Another photo taken from another direction.

Left: Do you notice SBEU( Sarawak Bank Employees’ Union) on ground? This resort is actually managed by Sarawak Bank Employees’ Union, members will get special rate staying in this resort. It’s also open to the public to make reservation.

Right: Obstacle course.

The view from Sunrise Terrace.

Left: Lastly, visited the toilet before we made our way to Sematan.

Right: The shower rooms.

Too bad… No photos of the rooms available. Will see if I have the chance to go there for a holiday one of these days as my dad did mention something about going there for 2 day 1 night trip in near future. We’ll see.

You can check the rates in their website.

On the Way to Lundu

Posted on April 26, 2010April 29, 2010 By sweet surrender No Comments on On the Way to Lundu

Going to share you the first part of my road trip last weekend. Going to show you the views that I saw when we were on the way to Lundu from Kuching.

Mountain view from somewhere in Batu Kawa.

This is one of the views fron one of the highest peaks of the road to Lundu. Very nice view right? Look at the faraway mountain.

Left: Going uphill…

Right: Finally reached the bridge. The view from the bridge. Last time, without this bridge, we had to use ferry to cross the river and usually there would be massive queue during public holidays that would take at least an hour or so to reach your turn. Sometimes we had to park our car at one of the villagers’ houses, paid them some money, then we would walk to board the ferry and then my uncle would wait for us with his van at the other end to save those waiting time. Gone are those days.

Road Trip to Betong – Part 4

Posted on March 6, 2010March 6, 2010 By sweet surrender No Comments on Road Trip to Betong – Part 4

Continue from yesterday post…

I’ll just let the photos do the talking.

These are random photos that I had taken when we walked around the town.

We found out that there’s no Toto or Magnum there. Only Special Cash Sweep. Interesting eh?

Left: The landmark, it’s rubber tree sculpture.

Right: The coffee shop where we had our lunch, it’s called Popular Food Court.

Ordered kolo mee and kolo beehoon, RM2.50 each. I’m not sure usually the black pudding or blood pudding is included or not.

It just happened that my dad saw it there and asked the cook about it because he had not eat and seen it for decades! Then when we were served, we saw two cubes on each bowl.

This is my first time seeing and eating it. I kept hearing my dad talking about it and how my grandma used to cooked it when he was little. Finally, I got to see and taste it. The taste? Hmm… Nothing much… Tasteless. The texture was pudding like.

After lunch, we sent my bro back to his camp and we made our way down to Kuching after that.

This! The view that I missed during the previous trip when we were on the highest hill because it was raining. Now I got to take photo of it! The view was breathtaking! You’ll get better view especially if you’re driving higher vehicle.

Nice right?

That’s the end of my Betong road trip. My bro will be back next week and that’s also the end of his national service. Don’t think there will be any road trip in near future because it’s really not our cup of tea. That’s all for now.

Road Trip to Betong – Part 3

Posted on March 5, 2010March 5, 2010 By sweet surrender 1 Comment on Road Trip to Betong – Part 3

We went to Betong again to send my brother back to his camp on 20th February. As usual we made stops at Serian and Lachau before heading further up.

Before turning into the junction to Betong, we made another stop at this place. I have no idea what place was it but it’s just right before the junction to Sri Aman and Betong.

I noticed this place got a lot of CCTV’s, they were everywhere! Each stalls had at least 2 CCTVs installed. Can you see how many here? Hehehe.. You can’t, the photos are too small ;p Anyway, I’ve never seen so many CCTVs installed in this one tiny place. Let just say there’s at least 20 of them!

After the stop, we headed up, up, up…

Welcome to Betong.

Heading to the bus station. The picture on the right is the bus station of Betong.

Left: Toilet break again! ;p

Right: Some random street of Betong.

That’s all for now. Will continue with the last part tomorrow.

Road Trip to Betong – Part 2

Posted on February 24, 2010August 26, 2010 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Road Trip to Betong – Part 2

Finally we reached Bukit Saban Resort Camp at around 10.30am. Before that we made a stop at Petronas for another toilet break and asked people which direction to go to the national service camp. It was a really looong way to the camp, we kept asking ourselves how far more to go *LOL*

The canteen and activity area of the camp. Visitors were only allowed to be at this area. There were so many parents, family members, and relatives that day. Visitors could even eat the food prepared that day at the canteen but of course most won’t go for it *LOL* Could see many “Pizza Hut” and “KFC” there hahaha… We had KFC.

Left: The place where the trainees were staying.

Right: Water activities equipments.

We left at around 2.30pm and decided to pay a visit to Sri Aman. Love the mountain views!

Left: Sri Aman was only 9KM from the junction to Betong. However, the 9KM really took ages because of the road. It’s tarred, just that due to the geographical condition, it slowed us a lot.

Right: The stadium at Sri Aman.

Finally we were greeted by some sort of modernity after passing by miles and miles of jungle, mountain, farms and so on.

The doves that symbolized the town, too bad I didn’t get to take a really good photo of it as we didn’t make any stop. We just drove and drove. Aman means peace in Malay.

I assume this is the place where you can see the tidal bore of the Batang Lupar River. I’m not sure when the phenomenon will take place, it will happen few times a year if not mistaken.

After Sri Aman, we headed down to the direction of Kuching. See the mountain? Nice!

On the way down, I asked my dad to stop by Mount Hosana as I wanted to take photo of the famous Mount Hosana Jesus Prayer Chapel. Drove too fast and not so sure on the exact location, we overshot the junction, lucky there’s no car behind so my dad quickly made a fast reversing into the junction.

There you go… The church. Seriously, I don’t think I can climb up there hahaha… There’s no hand reel and going down isn’t very easy also ;p

Took some photos of the church and we went straight down to Kuching.

Showing you the mountain view again! Just can’t help it. It’s really a magnificent view.

That’s the end of our first road trip to Betong.

Part 3 coming up, it will be the second road trip to Betong that happened last Saturday.
