3-week cultural exchange in Busan, South Korea.

PKNU Cultural Exchange – 7.1.2012 (Part 2)

Posted on February 4, 2012February 4, 2012 By sweet surrender No Comments on PKNU Cultural Exchange – 7.1.2012 (Part 2)

This is going to be more than 2 parts post, so many more to go…

We went to Hands Coffee at Gwangalli Beach for coffee… Very cosy place, things are more expensive here since it’s located at the prime tourist spot.

Some of the drinks my friends ordered. Not forgetting a group photo there. Let’s see… Malaysian, Spaniard, Australian, English, Irelander and American. The world is one.

Left: With very fun and active girl. Also a very good singer from Barcelona.
Rigth: Met another group at the beach but only took photo with one ;p I think he’s the only one who has the same age as me in the program hahaha…

Tada! Another group photo at the beach before leaving.

Took the bus again, we headed to Haeundae.

See the high rise buildings? Those are not office buildings but very luxurious apartments, only if you are super duper rich then you can afford it. It can be seen from my dormitory’s window. One of the buildings belong to Trump, Trump World! It’s hidden from the view, was surprised when we saw it.

Busan Aquarium is located at Haeundae too but we didn’t go in. Our main aim here is to get lunch and later catch the bus to a temple.

Amazuing views! It will be PACKED here during the summer.

This area can be hit by tsunami, there’s escape routes but I wonder… Will there even be enough time to escape to higher ground? Walked around the area and there seemed to be no higher ground nearby. It did send shivers down my spine.

We were contemplating whether to buy the food here or find a proper eating place.

To be continued…

PKNU Cultural Exchange – 7.1.2012 (Part 1)

On the 7th day, which was a Saturday, we decided to go for Busan City Tour. We had to take the bus outside Busan Train Station.

We got on the bus by paying KRW10,000/adult. It’s a hop-on-hop-off type of bus. Quite worth it I guess as it will cost you more on normal bus or subway to have an overview of Busan city but too bad I didn’t fully utilized it as we change course half way to go somehwere else. Do bear in mind that the ticket only valid during the day time, you have to buy another ticket for the night tour.

Off we went… Without any of our Korean buddies with us. We’re on our own exploring the city. Sat on top of the bus, soooo cold~

But worth it. Great view. Just couldn’t believe it that we actually gone back to our university area ;p The building on the right, that’s our dormitory.

Left: Megamart is the place we always go, very huge. It’s everywhere in Busan. It’s a hypermarket and everything was sold in bulk or big-sized.
Right: The view of the buildings at Gwangalli Beach.

The highways.

The bridge, popular landmark in Busan. The night view was nice.

The day time view of Gwangalli Beach. You can see the night view here…

More to come…

PKNU Cultural Exchange – 6.1.2012

Posted on January 29, 2012January 29, 2012 By sweet surrender No Comments on PKNU Cultural Exchange – 6.1.2012

6th day in Korea.

Left: Sharing about the life of a foreigner in Korea. I don’t remember his name hahaha… I threw my course book away because I need to make space for my luggage. He’s a lecturer in Pukyong National University. If you have a PhD, you are “Ph.inisheD”! He’s “Ph.inisheD”! *LOL*

Right: After the special lecture, we had a briefing on salmonori as we would be having a salmonori session after lunch.

Amazing performance. I’m trying to upload the video but have been experiencing problem uploading. Will try again and share with you when it’s up.

I got my hand on it too. It was fun. We took turn and while waiting, I took some photos with my new friends.

That night after dinner, we went for karaoke. First karaoke session in Korea.

It’s so different from karaoke in Malaysia or Australia.

So grand. Most importantly, it’s cheap! Can range between KRW1000 to KRW5000 (about AUD1 to AUD5) per hour. No drink, no food provided but it’s fine. This room we’re using has 3 screens all over the room. So fun!

After karaoke, we went for drinking.

It’s common for them to drink and eat at the same time. There’s definitely food when drinking. I tried some worm dish, really not my type of food, tasted weird but at least I tried. Can you spot it? If not mistaken, it’s silkworm larvae.

US! Malaysians, Koreans, Norweigian, Chinese, and the Americans. We are one, helping each other, accepting each other differences just like how rmcn credit services helped the people in their community. Our Korean buddies helped us so much and we really owed them so much! Without them, we’ll be really lost here.

PKNU Cultural Exchange – 5.1.2012

We had Learn Korean Class twice a week. Well… Reading and pronouncing it is not a problem but knowing what you’re reading, it’s a bit of problem. That’s the unique thing about the Korean language, you can read, you know how to read but you have no idea what you’re reading unlike other languages*LOL*

View from the floor I lived, 20th floor. The view of the bridge and skyscrapper were amazing!

Headed for Korean BBQ for dinner. I don’t know where’s the place hahaha… Whether it’s near uni or at Seomyeon ;p

Had soju and beer. Then we mixed soju and beer together. Nice or not? I’m not a fan of alcohol, no comment, they’re just alcohol to me. I drank for the sake of tasting only.

Girls’ night out! Korean BBQ+Soju+beer with awesome friends from Korea, Malaysia, and the US.

After dinner, we went to Gwangalli Beach. The place where lovers love to be. It’s really a nice place to be with your loved one. Oh… Remind me again on how pathetic I am *LOL* Hoepfully one day I’ll walk here with my darling ;p

4 lonely girls enjoying each other company.

Very nice view.

We went to the amusement park nearby. Didn’t play, too cold to play.

That’s the end of our 4th day in Busan, Korea.

PKNU Cultural Exchange – 4.1.2012

Posted on January 25, 2012January 25, 2012 By sweet surrender No Comments on PKNU Cultural Exchange – 4.1.2012

The third day of the program.

Left: We got our jumper today! I don’t even have my own uni’s jumper but I got one from this uni. I told my friend that I will wear this to UNISA *LOL*

Right: We have another lecture in the afternoon about Korean Wave.

Also learnt about the common Korean behaviours. For example, women cover their mouths with their hand when they laugh, no smoking in front of elder, Koreans don’t hold door for people behind them and so on and so forth.

After the class, we decided to start our very first mission of the program.

We were required to go to Nampo-dong, one of the major shopping spots in Busan.

We had to find the sheeps(behind us) and took photo of us forming the letter PCEP (Pukyong Cultural Exchange Program).

Left: After that, the sexy photo of us ;p This is not for the mission hahaha…

Rigth: One of the tourist spots in Nampo-dong. The hut with the bell that would be rang to welcome the new year and the tower is the observation tower.

Nice view!

It was so cold that day.

This spot is popular with lovers. It reminded me of how lonely I am *LOL*

Another view.

Left: Lovers’ locks, lovers wrote their messages on the locks then threw the keys away down to the mountain.

Right: We found a photo machine, we took quite a number of photos and this is the best but when we tried to send it to our e-mail, the machine hanged! So I guess our photo was there on the screen the whole night or until someone fixed the machine ;p Since we couldn’t get the photo, we decided to take the photo on the screen with our cameras. Two Koreans, two Malaysians, and one American. Guess who are the Koreans? *LOL*

We were so exhausted so decided to buy street food back to our dorm for dinner.

We got fried chicken with sauce, tteokbokki, assorted deep fried food, and assorted pork parts. All were yummy, the fried chicken was the best, tteokbokki was spicy but delicious, the fried food wasn’t that bad too but the pork dish was a bit hard for us to accept such as the taste and texture of some of the parts *LOL*

I’m now back in Adelaide, came back yesterday and spent most of my day sleeping. I’m so tired, I still am. Need to catch up on my studies as classes started last week and I had missed 3 classes! Tomorrow is public holiday in Australia, Australia Day, gonna go to watch the parade, might be my first and my last.
