3-week cultural exchange in Busan, South Korea.

PKNU Cultural Exchange – 13.1.2012 (Part 3)

Posted on March 12, 2012March 13, 2012 By sweet surrender 6 Comments on PKNU Cultural Exchange – 13.1.2012 (Part 3)

Should have posted this video first in part 1 ;p On the bus to Gyeongju.

After the temple visit, it’s time for lunch.

No idea where this place is ;p

Anyway, the picture on the left is the normal food while the one on the right is for vegetarians.

Done with lunch, off we went to another destination.

Really like the views. This is the country side, all these while only saw these on TV, now it’s right in front of my eyes.

We made our own kites ;p actually not really, we got assistance in making it, I can tell you mine was not done by me at all hahaha… 98% done by the instructor there. Luckily I found my own zodiac. After we make the kite, we wrote our dreams/wishes on it. If when we fly it and the string break, our dreams/wishes will come true but too bad mine ended up in the rubbish bin in Busan airport, it was damaged, torn and broken. I just hope my dreams/wishes won’t end up like the kite itself.

It’s my first time flying a kite and I got it up without any help! YAY! We flew it at the nearby field.

Some buildings at the area.

After that, we made the move to the Gyeongju National Museum.

Huge place! However, museum is not the kind of place I will visit hehehe… Then again, could go there was good enough already. At least I stepped my foot there ;p

Very nice scenery. It would be great in spring and summer. Things looked so dull in winter 🙁

One last photo before going back to the city.

On the way back…

This is the main building of Bulguksa Temple.

Sokgyemun, one of the national treasures.

There’s so many national treasures here. Not these obviously ;p

This is the Dabotap. Another national treasure found here.

Didn’t take much of the national treasures’ photos because didn’t know it was this special that time hehehe… The view should be amazing during spring. In winter, it looked dull… Will just let the photos do the talking ;p Basically just photos taken with friends.

The long awaited day is here! We went to Gyeongju. It was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Silla (57 BC – 935 AD).

Left: Some of the snacks given to us for the road trip.
Right: Love the view! On the way…

Bulguksa Temple is the head temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism in the North Gyeongsang province in South Korea.

Frozen lake at the temple.

Toilets for gentleman and lady.

Another frozen lake.

Statues at one of the entrances. Scary looking!

It’s winter, even the river and stream were frozen.

Heading to the main building. To be continued…

PKNU Cultural Exchange – 12.1.2012 (Part 2)

After caligraphy class, we had to go to do our next mission. We need to produce a video on our assignedd location.

We need to go to somewhere quite far, if I recall correctly, it’s almost 1 hour subway ride. As usual, we took our subway from this station (left picture).

We arrived at Dongnae and started filming.

We walked to the market.

The girls from Norway and Ireland were the centre of attention throughout the market because they’re so fair and so pretty! Kept hearing 예쁘다 (yeppuda). It means “pretty” in Korean.

After that, got some street food. I don’t remember the food name ;p 3 for KRW1000, so cheap! It’s so yummy!

For dinner, we went to Mr. Pizza. It’s so popular here! There tagline sure makes women feel happy, “Love for Women”. According to our Korean buddy, this pizza outlet is designed with women in mind. This is the only place we found English version menu! How exciting! At least we can order something without looking like an ultimate fool ;p The salad bar provide unlimited salad for each table. Don’t remember how much to pay to be entitled for this. We did not order this but our Korean buddies said that they normally will order the salad with pizza.

Left: The interior.
Right: With 2 Korean group members 😉

Left: Cheese sticks (KRW3900 for 4 sticks, KRW6900 for 8 sticks), oh gosh! Heavenly!! Make it even more sinful, it came with cheese sauce for dipping.

Right: Your Special, make your own pizza. Large one is KRW14600 and for the topping is KRW1500 each. If I’m not mistaken, it’s pepperoni and ham.

Left: Mr. Pizza Combo (large,KRW21500), pepperoni, bacon, mushroom, and 9 more toppings. That sure sounds a lot!

Right: Bulgogi Pizza (large, KRW20500), fusion style pizza, very straight forward ;p

We called it a night after that, was so tired. I took the leftover back and placed it under my bed’s drawer instead of the fridge because the floor was heated. In the morning, I got hot pizza for breakfast instead of stone cold pizza from the fridge. How nice! It sounds gross but seriously it’s a great way to store the leftover pizza.

By the way, since out laundry got no dryer (very weird, don’t understand), we dried our clothes on the floor and in the drawer under our bed, guess what?!?! It dried! WOW! Also, the laundry was so high-tech! We had
to scan our blood vessel to go in! However… I just found it redundant, didn’t even need to do it, I kept forgetting my password ;p there’s a staircase to go back up to the dormitory lobby area. The scannig was actually meant to avoid the guys go to the girls’ dormitory or vice versa via the lift.

That’s the end of part 2.

Left: In the, we had special lecture about Korean Wave again! However, this time is about the movie industry.

Right: In the afternoon, we had caligraphy class. I haven’t touch the brush for more than 15 years! WOW! This sure makes me sound like I’m soooo old! ;p

We were given with lots of papers to practice before drawing it on the real fan. Once we got more comfortable, we drew on the template.

I tried to replicate whatever I had drawn on the template on the fan but ended up with something else. Quite satisfied with it. Consideing I haven’t do any caligraphy writing for more than a decade ;p

While waiting to get my fan stamped, I took photos with the handsomes and pretties 😉

There you go!

Part 2 coming soon!

Blogging since 2002. Anything before 2006 is no longer available. It is no longer on this server. Back then, I built my own blog and updated it using HTML. No database or anything. Only started blogging fully with a CMS in 2006. However, whatever was on the Internet will stay on the Internet. So... It should be still somewhere on the Internet. Then again... Why do you want to dig that far?
