Maybelline Volum’ Express Hypercurl

Posted on April 19, 2008April 19, 2008 By sweet surrender 4 Comments on Maybelline Volum’ Express Hypercurl

Hehehe… My first time blogging with my XPS 😛

My first time buying new mascara in less than 4 months, I usually only buy new one when the old one finishes or can no longer be used that would be around 1 year. What to do? Elianto’s failed me… It cannot be used anymore, clotted and drying up.

I saw this new one from Maybelline, Maybelline Volum’ Express Hypercurl, is it new? Hahaha… Consider new I guess… Bought it for RM27+ at Watson. It’s hypoallergenic and contact lens-safe.

Here’s the effect, I only used two coats without eyelash curler, just quick application without paying much attention to the details.

Left: No mascara.
Middle: First coat.
Right: Second coat which I didn’t intend to apply but due to my itchy hand, I decided to apply it again but the first coat had dried long ago *LOL* You should not let it dries in between coats 😛

See the effect? It claims that it can give 75 degree curled lashes with their patented Curl-Lock formula, 3X the volume, without clumps.

Here’s how to get it works:
Roll on this mascara in a zig-zag motion, from the roots to the tips. Apply a few coats till the desired effect is achieved.

I didn’t do that 😛 I just applied like usual, I’m quite satisfied with the effect. No smudge too. After removing the mascara, the curling effect is still there for 2 days. I’m sure if I had followed the instructions, the effect will be so much more obvious.

The brush is quite different from what I normally get from other mascaras that I had tried before. It’s curved, I found out from a TV show about beauty where they said that you must use the brush the “n” way instead if the “u” way. “n” way will curl your lashes, “u” way will not have much effect.

Basically that’s about it. This is my third mascara from Maybelline. My budget for mascara is below RM30, I never go for anything more than this hehehe… I know there are better ones out there that are more expensive but I still can’t seem to get myself to spend this much on mascara 😛

Burnt A Big Hole In My Pocket…

Posted on April 11, 2008April 12, 2008 By sweet surrender 21 Comments on Burnt A Big Hole In My Pocket…

This is my second time colouring and highlighting my hair, first time was in 2006 at promotional price of RM150(cut, highlight, color, treatment) at a salon at Travilion(closed down).

I’m not going to tell you where I did it this time due to some restrictions that I cannot reveal. I faced a bit of problem with them but eventually accept it as I believe the hairstylist skills will not disappoint me as he has many experiences under his belt for more than 2 decades, I’m sure he would do a great work for me. Just that the price gave me a huge shock, see this…

Freaking RM190 for cut, highlight and coloring my hair!! No treatment or even hairspray after that, only shampooed off the colour and blow dry. My first time spending this much on my hair. Add on with the previous RM22 hair cut sigh… Basically I had just wasted my RM22 last week to this new cut.

First off, I know if the hairstylist is the one cuts my hair, the price is RM60. My main aim was to get my hair coloured and highlighted, that’s all. I thought they would consider my hair as medium length but it turned out that it’s considered long -.-” So I’m charged with the long hair price which is RM160 but with the half price promotion, it’s RM80, not that bad right? The highlight is RM100 but half price, it’s RM50, OK right? Initially I should be spending RM130 only or less if they considered my hair medium length.

After few minutes of discussion on how I want my hair colour turn out(learnt a lot, didn’t know there’s so much things to consider to get the right hair colour), after about 45 minutes of highlighting, then colouring for 2 hours+, the hairstylist told me he would trim my hair.

OK… I didn’t tell them that I want to trim my hair, since he said that he would trim a bit, I was thinking maybe it’s just a bit of customer service as it’s my first time there, you know… To make sure you get return customer summore I should have a bit of special deal(I’m too naive) since…(cannot reveal due to confidentiality).

I just said,”Oooo…”. Then he started to trim, trim, trim, I sensed something not right… I said to him that he trimmed quite a lot, I didn’t ask him whether he would charge me for this or not as it’s halfway already, I couldn’t say no, else my hair will be ruined -.-” He told me this will make my hair looked better after wash and easier to maintain. Fine… I trust him because he’s really an expert and I had seen many good hairs coming out from him.

Now… It’s the time to pay… I’m charged with the extra RM60 because of the trimming from the hairstylist. I shouldn’t have let him trim but what to do, I didn’t know. Lesson to learn here, make sure you ask them whether they charge you or not if they do extra thing. Since I’m not the kind that frequent hair salon especially the kind that charge pretty expensive service charges or different charges with different hairstylist, I didn’t know that “law”. It’s an expensive lesson to learn, RM60 for a trim!! My first time having such expensive trim. I hope after my hair wash 3 days later, it will give me a good hair else I’m going to complain! Frankly the cut previously was a bit hard to maintain due to my natural curls and made my face looked very square. That’s why I took my before photo from the side.

Here’s the result after about 3 hours+ and a total damage of RM190. I’m so poor this month… Spent too much… Why Pikom has to be in April also? -.-” I had planned earlier on for this hair colouring, as this half price promotion only valid in April during weekdays, I won’t go if no promotion. If there’s no promotion, my hair would cost RM320!!! Goodness gracious! Expensive! Including the wasted RM22 hair cut, it’s RM342, only for my hair this month. *SWEAT gao gao*

The colour and the highlight aren’t that obvious in the photos though. In fact it’s quite obvious if you see me in real person. It does enhance my skin colour. The final result with no hairstyling products, just blow dry, the salon effect.

This will be my first and last time having such expensive hair services. Unless it’s sponsored.

Crazy! Guys… You can imagine how much girls spent for their beauty? Please don’t compare me with the other girls out there as I don’t spend as much as they do in beauty or shopping. To others, this RM300+ for hair services is nothing, for me is really something I have difficulty digesting. I’m still trying to digest the fact that I had spent RM60 for a trim, this explains why I can’t smile properly in the after photos -.-”

Haircut @ The Cut

Posted on April 2, 2008April 2, 2008 By sweet surrender 18 Comments on Haircut @ The Cut

My last hair cut was last year in December, it’s very long and I really can’t stand it because lots of hair falling. Since I’m stress, it’s time to get a hair cut too, so after I met a client, I decided to get my hair cut and hair wash to release a bit of stress with the voucher from My Privilege Book hehehe… The one that offers hair cut and wash for RM22 only for female(male is RM18) from The Cut at RH Plaza, same row as Siang Siang, downstair is an aquarium shop.

I asked Fred, the hairstylist to suggest what kind of hairstyle would he recommend, he recommended me to cut it short with layers, I got a bit of shock *LOL* Never got any hairstylist dare to suggest this to me with my natural curl *LOL* I warned him that my curls are natural, is it wise to do so?!?! He said to me that since I want to change my hairstyle this is the only way. Summore my hair is too long already.

Then I showed him a photo that I took from Popular, the bookstore at Boulevard hehehe… 😛 (photo on the left) As this is the hairstyle suggested in the book for my face shape. He said this is quite long. I told him no need to be exact, just something like this but shorter.

My hair was washed first, not what I had expected with upper body massage like I used to have when I got my hair wash at the usual place I go. They just gave me head massage. I don’t really mind, at least not just quick wash like when after you get a haircut or before a haircut. Only RM22, way cheaper than what you usually get elsewhere. Don’t complain so much. *LOL*

Cut cut, snip, snip, blow, blow… Here’s the end result!
Well… This is the salon effect, they blew it straight, with some styling cream and spray. Don’t know how will it look like after my hair wash hehe… A hair straightener will come in handy 😛 Hehehe… *hint hint my sister*

*AHEM* After this, I’m doing another thing to my hair 😛 Will be giving my hair a total makeover.

All in April… You’ll just wait and see hahaha…

I Want Double Eyelids! (2)

Posted on March 8, 2008March 8, 2008 By sweet surrender 1 Comment on I Want Double Eyelids! (2)

Previously I bought a pack of double eyelid tape from Guardian, finally finished using it.

Now I bought one from Yin Hoo(a catalogue that sells many things ranging from toys to to accessories to makeup to apparels). I’m sure many of you are familiar with this. I’m sure most girls ever buy from it, it’s quite popular back then in primary and secondary school. The stuff are very very cheap! However, the processing and shipping of orders will take about a month.

Back to the eyelid tape, it’s less than RM3, I don’t remember the actual price. Didn’t know how it looked like, I just bought it since it’s cheap. The previous one I bought from Guardian was RM5.80. When I opened it up, I noticed that this is the type that I usually resent from buying in the market! Well… Since it’s cheap, I didn’t really bother. It’s quite big piece compare to Guardian’s. It’s not curved too. I was wondering how can it be used on the eyelid like this!??!

I decided to try it out. It’s so much easier to apply that the one I bought previously! It’s not obvious on the eyelids(picture on the left, the small arrow pointing to the eyelid tape). You don’t have to apply eyeshadows to cover it unlike the previous one. The effect is much more natural than the previous one too. However, when I applied eyeshadow, it’s not that easy to get the colour to stay on it, you had to apply quite a lot of layer to balance the colour on the tape and on your on eyelid.

I’m sure you are wondering why I need to use it. I have double eyelid but it’s not obvious. Sometimes my right eyelid will “drop”(don’t know how to explain) and make my eyes looked one big, one small hahaha… I usually used it when there is a function to attend or in the mood for full makeup during the time when my eyelid on my right eye “dropped” :P, if not I won’t be using it. Just once in a blue moon…

That’s all about it. You can learn how to apply double eyelid tape here…

Benefit The Lana Look Creaseless Cream Shadow-Liner

Posted on March 3, 2008March 4, 2008 By sweet surrender 4 Comments on Benefit The Lana Look Creaseless Cream Shadow-Liner

Hehehe… Another review of beauty product. This time I’m going to share my experience with you on Benefit The Lana Look Creaseless Cream Shadow-Liner(the contest was to win Benefit Silky Powder Eyeshadows but I’m given Benefit The Lana Look Creaseless Cream Shadow-Liner, just found out from the Internet hehehe…). Won it last year in the Faces+Advertlets contest.

I picked Lana Look (light neutral shades). I used it many times already, I’m sure you didn’t notice it hehehe… Well… It’s so neutral that’s why but I can see it. In fact I like the colour, very natural. I don’t like bright or dark colours for my eye makeup. I’m always going for natural colour to accentuate the feature instead of showing off colours.

Here’s what I got from Macy*s and it’s just what I’m thinking:

The Lana Look is light neutrals.“Going for a no-makeup look? Light neutrals are your shades!”—Lana-I want makeup that’s hassle free.-My makeup bag contains a few beauty items.-I like that “no-makeup” makeup look.

The boxes are so pretty! According to my sis, this is very expensive in UK. I checked Macy*s site too and it’s USD18 per colour!! WOW! Expensive! I’ve never use such expensive thing. Hehehe… All my makeups are from pharmacies or supermarkets hehehe… I’ve never buy any from the counter.

Usually when you buy makeup, you’ll get boring names like beige, coral red, pink etc. As for Benefit Silky Powder Eyeshadows, you don’t get all these. You get Birthday Suit, RSVP and My Date’s My Brother. Frankly, I still have problem remembering what colour they are from looking at the boxes, I have to open them one by one to find the colour that I want hahaha… At least now I can recognise one, My Date’s My Brother is pink hahaha… Yes, I still keep them in the boxes, the boxes are too cute to throw away.

You can use one shade at a time or two shades at a time or all 3 shades at a time. It’s up to you.

(I had difficulty taking photos of the colours on my eyes, all drowned by the flash. If no flash, then it’s blurred till you can’t see anything)
Left: Birthday Suit, I like this colour a lot! They describe the colour as “brushed chrome”. It’s very easy to blend, smooth and silky. Great colour for the base or highlight or as a colour on its own.

Middle: RSVP, brownish colour. It’s quite hard to blend. It’s not smooth and silky like Birthday Suit.

Right(ignore that strip one my eyelid :p It’s double eyelid tape, I will blog about the new one I bought when I’m free hehehe…): My Date’s My Brother, I like this also. The pink colour is sheer and doesn’t make my eye looked puffy. It’s not easy to blend also.

I found out that the formula can dry up easily if you don’t close the cover tightly. That might be the cause of blending difficulty. I might have exposed them for a bit too long to the fan when I’m taking photos of them!! Oh dear… It can be used just a bit hard to blend and take a bit of time.

Since the colours are very neutral, you have to apply many times to build up the colour intensity which will take quite a bit of time. This is because you have to let the first layer set first before applying another layer. The more intense you want, the longer time you will need. However, it’s worth it as the effect is very nice and with one colour you can turn them into shades that is light to darker shades. As if you are using more than one colours. They don’t crease at all!!

It’s also an eyeliner!! However, I still haven’t master the skills and techniques to achieve the eye liner effect. It needs quite a lot of practice. Also I don’t have the brush for it too. I’ve been applying them using cotton buds and blend with my fingers 😛

Just one thing I don’t like about them, the smells, not sure how to describe them, each colour has different smell. To some people, they might smell sweet but not me, a bit too empowering for me.

Other than that, it’s great eyeshadow to have but on the high end, good thing I got it for free 😛

P/S: The photos are showing almost the actual size of the eyeshadows.
