Brisbane 22/7/2012 – Part 2

Posted on August 2, 2012January 9, 2013 By sweet surrender No Comments on Brisbane 22/7/2012 – Part 2

After South Bank, we headed to the CBD via Citycat.

Left: The casino.
Right: Random view in the CBD.

We went to David Jones’ food court for its spicy beef noodle ($6.50) which was recommeded by my friend. It wasn’t bad for the price.

Then we headed to Fortitude Valley aka Chinatown of Brisbane via train. ARG! Just realized I didn’t save the photos of the Chinatown arch for this post. It felt like pasar malam in Malaysia and the area is not a place I would want to be, just didn’t have good feeling when I’m there. I still prefer the Chinatown of Adelaide, clean, cosy and small.

Oh… See the bicycles? It’s everywhere. You have to be a member to be able to ride them if I’m not mistaken.

After Fortitude Valley, we headed back to Myer where Beach House is located. My friends had pre-dinner drink here and we killed our time here while waiting for dinner time.

By the way, see Starbucks? It’s not a common sight to see it in Australia, only major cities. Used to have it in Adelaide but close shop years back due to different coffee culture and they expanded too fast.

Dinner time! Funny Funny here we come. A Korean restaurant. I felt as if I’m in Korea here.

Left: Beer, the only glass I had. This is the only beer I’m willing to drink ;p Didn’t drink the soju, just wetted my tongue with it, damn strong!
Right: Yummy side dishes!

Left: Spicy seafood and beg soup served in hotpot (medium-$27). Very spicy indeed! However, it tasted as if there’s so much MSG in it.
Right: Tuna in kimchi soup served in hotpot (medium-$27), not spicy at all but didn’t like tuna cooke this way.

Food portion was huge! Fed 6 people and could feed two more too. Side dishes were refilled for free. Paid only $9 for this dinner. Worth it!

After dinner, we called it a night, it was so tiring.

BBQ City Restaurant

Went to BBQ City Restaurant for dinner months back ;p The photos had been staying asleep in my phone for months before I finally transferred them to my computer. I’m just too lazy.

It’s located at 84 Gouger Street, Adelaide. The place was packed! Anyway, here’s what we had:

Left: Braised beef flank in hotpot.
Right: 2 combination roast, char siew(honey BBQ pork) and roast duck.

Don’t remember how much were they hehehe… Taste? Not too bad but at the same time got nothing much to rave about also. Just average.

Bing’s Chinese Restaurant

Posted on July 4, 2012July 4, 2012 By sweet surrender No Comments on Bing’s Chinese Restaurant

Went to Bing’s Chinese Restaurant months back bit never update it because I didn’t know the shop’s name until recently ;p It’s located at Chinatown, 6/85 Grote Street, Adelaide, SA 5000. Just opposite Hong Kong Grocery Shop. Very easy to spot.

Left: The interior. Once you go in there, you’ll not mistaken you’re in a Chinese restaurant.
Right: Since it’s so long ago, I’m not sure what kind of fried rice is this. It cost us about AUD11+ if not mistaken. Portion was small! Was disappointed with the portion but it tasted great.

Left: Not sure about this too hehehe… It’s a meat dish (either mutton or beef) with cumin. Yum! Spicy and delicious! This cost more than AUD12 I think…
Right: Dumpling, not sure of the exact name too, sounded something like Northern Steamed Pork Dumpling. This is the best dumpling so far we had in Adelaide. Even my friend who is very particular about dumpling gave this two thumbs up. It’s quite cheap for this, 15 dumplings for only AUD7.80 (or is it AUD7.50? Doesn’t matter, it’s below AUD8 and it’s cheap and delish!).

Overall, I will come back to this place again even though the portion is a bit smaller and slightly pricier.

Mochi (Microwave Version)

Posted on June 29, 2012 By sweet surrender No Comments on Mochi (Microwave Version)

I’ve been wanting to make mochi a long long time but never get to do it. Finally, few weeks ago, I did it. It’s so easy!

Ingredients:
2 cups of glutinous flour
2 cups of water
2 tablespoons of sugar
Sesame seeds/dessicated coconut/anything that can avoid the mochi sticking to each other (no specific measurement, for coating)

Instructions:
1. Mix glutinous flour and water well.

2. Place it in microwavable container covering the top of the container.
3. Microwave on HIGH (900 Watt) for 4 minutes.
4. Leave it cool for a bit.
5. Roll into ball and coat it with sesame. Do it as fast as you can. The longer it takes the harder it is to shape it into a ball.

Tips: Use plastic knife or spoon cut or scoop the mochi to avoid sticking.

Variations:
Green tea mochi: Mix one teaspoon of green tea powder to make green tea mochi.
Red bean paste mochi: Fill the mochi with red bean paste.
Just be creative! Experiment!

The Clovey

Posted on June 27, 2012June 27, 2012 By sweet surrender No Comments on The Clovey

Took us quite awhile to decide where to have dinner 3 Saturday nights ago. Finally we ended up at The Clovey since my friends said that he had not tried out the food here. Usually just had drinks here. It’s located at The Clovercrest Hotel, 450 Montague Road, Modbury North SA 5092.

The atmosphere wasn’t bad. There’s live band playing. There’s a dance floor as well.

The place was packed! Lucky us that we managed to get a table. The appetizers are free flow, just take anything you want at the salad bar. It’s my first time having meal at a hotel (many Australian pubs are indeed called an Hotel by their name, they used to have rooms upstair but nowadays most don’t, they just retained the “hotel” word on their name).

Left: I don’t quite remember the name -.-” It’s a lamb dish with vegetables. It was the night’s special. It cost less than AUD15.
Right: This is also the special of the night, Fish and chips, not the exact name but yea… It’s basically fish and chips hahaha… This is around AUD16 I think…

It’s been quite long ago. It’s not in the menu also. The taste? My lamb dish was quite dry but the potato was nice. The fish and chips was not bad. Don’t think will come back here for dinner. It just didn’t leave me with any strong impression, quite average. For drinking and hanging isn’t that bad though.
