Penang Day 2 – Part 4: Back to Nature, Tropical Spice Garden

Posted on October 26, 2008October 11, 2013 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Penang Day 2 – Part 4: Back to Nature, Tropical Spice Garden

Not as promised, I can’t add in the dinner and birthday post because it’s too long *LOL* So you will be expecting a part 5 coming tomorrow.

Was hungry after visiting the dam and Penang Forestry Museum. Went to an islamic coffee shop at Batu Feringghi for tea break. We had roti canai and teh tarik. I thought I had captured the name of the coffee shop but NO!! All I can tell you is that it’s opposite Kahleel(I hope I got the spelling right ;p), a food court runs by the Indians and they have so many branches around Penang. You will sure not miss it. It’s near End of the World seafood restaurant(will blog about it in other post).

The curry was not bad but the roti canai wasn’t in very good presentation ;p Price wise I think it should be much cheaper than Kuching. No idea, I didn’t pay hahaha…

After we’re done eating, we went to Tropical Spice Garden. I’m not sure whether you need to pay to go in or not because I saw the signboard but we didn’t see anyone paying. Hmm… No idea, or our friend had paid for us? The entrance is definitely not cheap. It’s RM13 per adult. We didn’t go to the garden and trailer ride, I guess this means we don’t have to pay unless we are going into those two places.

View of the Spice Museum, so small -.-” Smaller than my house.

Left: Cinammon on sale at the Gift Shop. Thought of buying something from there but at the end, went back empty handed because no idea what to buy hehehe… There’s many type of potpourri and even spice soaps that are nicely wrapped.

Right: Some equipments hanging on top of the museum’s ceiling.

Hmm… So, do you think RM13 to see this kind of thing is worth it? I don’t think they did pay for the entrance fee. If they did, we should be visiting more places there but we were only at the cafe area, the shop and the little musuem.

The view from across the road. Nice view but at the same time really scary. Honestly being greeted with this view everyday was making me a bit sad thinking of the tragedy that happened last time since part of Penang was hit by it before too.

Anyway, I do enjoy my stay in Penang especially the food. Part 5 will come tomorrow.

Penang Day 2 – Part 1: Brunch @ Kang Hoe Coffee Shop

Posted on October 23, 2008October 11, 2013 By sweet surrender 4 Comments on Penang Day 2 – Part 1: Brunch @ Kang Hoe Coffee Shop

Left: The place we’re staying. On the 15th floor.

Right: The morning view of the place we stayed. Just looked out of our windows from the bedrooms, this is what we got.

Armed with a car, the 4 Kuchingites that got no prior planning on where to go went out on their own to look for a place for breakfast. Went to many places and were mostly not opened, as for those already opened, we didn’t even want to go try them out *LOL*. We even tried to go to one of the shopping malls(don’t remember which one) to look for breakfast but to no avail. Hahaha… The breakfast ended up became brunch.

Left: We just drove around and ended up at Kang Hoe Coffee Shop. It’s more like a market to me, sort of like the market at Tabuan Jaya. Many stalls were not opened and we just made do with whatever we could find. Frankly the place is quite dirty hahaha… Still we just ordered and ate. Don’t ask me where this is. I have no idea at all. *LOL* We were driving without any plan.

Right: Soya bean milk with gula melaka. Don’t remember the price. ;p Never bother also.

Left: I’m not so sure what is this, if not mistaken it’s wantan mee. Portion was big! The price is not expensive at all but I don’t know how much hehehe…

Right: Don’t remember the name but it’s just like cha kueh. Very cheap too! Taste wise, ok la…

Left: Chu Chang Fen, it’s different from what you can get in Kuching. These got no fillings and topped with prawn paste, the paste tasted like jiu eng chai‘s paste except this is so much more thicker and sweeter. It’s also topped with sambal. The sambal is heavenly! Sweet+Salty+Spicy=YUM! However, this is not the best chu chang fen in Penang, that’s what my friend said. The price for this plate is RM2.60

Right: Fried bee hoon, only RM1!!! Portion is standard portion enough to feed an average eater. Where can you can get this kind of portion with this kind of price in Kuching? RM1 food in Kuching extinct already *LOL*

After breakfast, we head over to Toy Musuem. You’ll see the post tomorrow ;p

Trees Can’t Dance

Posted on October 18, 2008October 16, 2008 By sweet surrender No Comments on Trees Can’t Dance

Trees can’t dance because they are rooted ;p Actually just wanted to share with you about Trees Can’t Dance sauces from UK.
The one on the left is Sweet Chili Sauce. It tasted like Thai chili sauce. Great for Thai fishcakes, stir-fry and rice dishes. Also can be used for roast chicken or baked ham glazing. Not very spicy but those that can’t tolerate spiciness will feel that it’s very spicy.

The one of the right is Plum Dipping Sauce. It’s just plum sauce. Great for freshly cooked prawns, salad, for toast and many more. It’s up to you. It can be used anywhere you like.

What is so special about these sauce? They only use natural ingredients and maintain an ethical approach to every aspect of production. Their ingredients are planted without the use of pesticides, or herbicides and without any chemical or artificial fertilisers. They are licensed by the Soil Association. WAH! Got this kind of association.

Duc d’O Truffles

Posted on October 17, 2008October 15, 2008 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Duc d’O Truffles

Continuation from the previous Duc d’O post…

This is Duc d’O truffles. Don’t you think it looks gross? ;p

It was supposed to be some nice chocolate shavings coating the chocolate but imagine the journey it went tru’ for being in the luggage for more than 12 hours from UK to Kuching.

I thought it’s small in size like the previous ones but the size doubles those. Taste wise? Milk chocolate with don’t know what kind of filling. Everything just melt in your mouth. Not so bad.

Jacquot Chocolats du Chef

Posted on October 16, 2008October 15, 2008 By sweet surrender No Comments on Jacquot Chocolats du Chef

Somewhere in the sky now. Going to update my Penang trip with Twitter using my phone, live update! Hehehe… I hope there are places that offer free WiFi and power outlet for my laptop.

This time, it’s made in France, Jacquot Chocolats du Chef. Here’s the website: http://www.jacquot.fr/uk/finechocolate.htm

How it tasted? NO IDEA! Ask the ants! *LOL* They had great time savouring them before us. At the end, whole box went into the trash.

Smelt quite nice, I think they should taste good too. Imagine tiramisu, creme brule, mousse au chocolat, meringue citron, 4 types of chocolates. Too bad… The ants got it first. They sure enjoyed themselves and making nest in there. There were holes in almost all of the chocolates with filling. The ants came in and out from the holes. *SWEAT*

The photo you see here is actually ants infested chocolate. Took some photos before dumping it to the trash. You can’t see the ants though. What a waste… Sigh…
