Singapore Trip: Day 2(18/8/09): Part 2.1: Bugis & Suntec

Posted on August 25, 2009August 26, 2009 By sweet surrender 6 Comments on Singapore Trip: Day 2(18/8/09): Part 2.1: Bugis & Suntec

First place we went was Bugis.

Came out fromt he MRT station and being greeted with cute and colourful interior design. It’s MRT for goodness sake! Didn’t feel it at all, you thought you are in some sort of shopping mall. Couldn’t help it, we even camwhored outside the toilet ;p

Came out of the MRT station and this is Hylam Street, part of Bugis Junction.

Took a peek at the food court there and left. Was not hungry at all because was fully fed during breakfast -.-” All the heavy breakfasts in the morning were making us no mood at all to try other food during our stay there.

Next, we headed to Bugis Street, the largest street shopping location in Singapore. Walked walked walked and then we reached Albert Mall at Waterloo Street. You can find many Chinese medicine shops and also shops selling worshiping stuffs there.

The famous temples, Chinese(Kuan Im Tong) and Hindu(Sri Krishnan Temple) temples located side by side. If not mistaken, the Chinese temple is very popular. The fortune telling is very accurate but hehehe… I didn’t try it. I don’t “play” such thing.

Many stalls selling various products from food to clothing.

Iluma, one of the latest shopping complex in Singapore is just around the corner. The night view is spectacular but too bad, no chance to come here at night.

After Bugis, we walked to Suntec *LOL* Could see the building from Bugis, so we decided to walk. Luckily we didn’t get lost. Good thing the building is very tall so it’s easy to locate.

While waiting for my friend to meet us at Suntec, we had a late lunch at Pastamania. Ordered Chicken Ananas(SGD11.50 for 7 inch), Very expensive and it’s disappointing, I had better thin crust pizza back home and even from Pizza Hut. This is the most expensive food we had, small protion summore -.-”

Then, my friend came and he treated us to some desserts inside the food court of Suntec, it’s called the Food Republic if I’m not mistaken. We had Aloe Vera Longan Ice(SGD2.50), Cheng Tng(SGD1.80), and another is Cheng Tng Ice(if not mistaken, no idea how much).

After that, we walked towards the MRT at the same time stop by some places in Suntec along the way.

The Fountain of Wealth is the main attraction of Suntec. Camwhored there too for sure but it was so bright that I had problem opening my eyes. It’s my second time here but first time didn’t play with it.

Done with fountain, bought Aunty Anne’s pretzel but I didn’t eat. Actually it’s my friend’s treat. While on the way, we stopped by the Koi Garden. Many big and fat kois there hahaha… Didn’t manage to take proper picture of it.

That’s all for now. City Hall and Orchard will be next.

Kuching Festival 2009 – Part 3

Posted on August 14, 2009 By sweet surrender No Comments on Kuching Festival 2009 – Part 3

My parents went to Kuching Festival again last night and bought some food for dinner and today’s breakfast.

Left: Sweet sour spicy chicken feet, as the name suggested, need me to say more? ;p

Right: O kueh (O = yam)

Left: Chui kueh, not easy to find good chui kueh (chui = water in Hokkien). Last time we used to buy it from Sunday Market but the old aunty no more making it. This is the best by far from Yi Yuan (I don’t know the exact name of this place, this is the Chinese name I’m giving you, it’s the Teochew restaurant located at MBKS swimming pool), my dad will surely buy it every single time he goes to food fair.

Right: Chocolate bun, had this for breakfast, steamed it and it’s ready to eat. Pretty cute don’t you think so?

Frog Legs

Posted on August 11, 2009July 19, 2022 By sweet surrender 12 Comments on Frog Legs

Frog legs, do you eat?

I know some of my friends said that they won’t because it’s really ewww… To me, it’s YUMMY!

My mom usually cooked it with dark soy sauce, onions, ginger, garlic, lemon grass and of course salt and sugar to taste. Eating it needs a lot of patience and a bit tedious because the bones are small.

Deep fried it before but not nice at all. Made soup before but also not nice.

If I’m not mistaken, this is what I heard, frog legs soup is very good for the skin especially those with sensitive skin, you know the kind when you easily get reddish after mosquito bite and it will last there for a while. Constantly having the soup will improve the situation. Not sure how true but that’s what my dad’s friend’s daughter experienced.

Do you like frog legs?

Kuching Festival 2009 – Part 2

Posted on August 6, 2009August 7, 2009 By sweet surrender 9 Comments on Kuching Festival 2009 – Part 2

I heard that Kuching Festival Food and Trade Fair will end on 15th August and it’s confirmed by somebody but I still don’t really believe it ;p. Supposed to be on 23rd August. Means it will end in less than 10 days -.-” So short! Was told that it’s shortened because of the fasting month. I don’t understand, what it got to do with the fasting month? It should maintain open until the initial end date. It will be a great place for people to break their fast. Maybe it’s to avoid giving competition to the Ramadhan bazaars around Kuching? However, I do notice that majority of the visitors to Kuching Festival are non-Muslims.

Anyway, some of the food I had from Kuching Festival, my parents went there almost every alternate day *LOL* This year my sis will not be able to visit the food fair, thought she still can make it after we got back from Singapore but too bad… It will end early, she will miss it for the first time of her life *LOL*

Left: O Jien, usually we got the wet type at Kuching Festival, this is the first time we bought the crispy type. I notice that there are quite a number of O Jien stalls this year.

Right: Bought this at the stall selling belacan bee hoon. My dad’s favourite. Cuttlefish with chili sauce. The chili sauce is not your average chili sauce of course. It’s the chili sauce that will make or break this dish.

Left: Lim Kee’s sausage(RM2/stick). I prefer this stall than the other stall. We never miss buying this every single time we are there.

Right: Some Chinese pastry that can be found at the stall not far from SugarBun’s stall. Sesame ball and bull’s horn ;p I don’t know the real names of these hehehe…

Dinner @ Double Woodhouse Kopitiam

Posted on August 3, 2009August 4, 2009 By sweet surrender No Comments on Dinner @ Double Woodhouse Kopitiam

So… Went to Double Woodhouse Kopitian again. This time for dinner.

Kopi O(RM1.50), Kopi C Peng(RM3), Flower Milk Tea(RM3.50).

The Flower Milk Tea is very refreshing and unique. I quite like it, it’s quite sweet but after the ice melted, the sweetness is just right. If I’m not mistaken the flower the name refer to should be chrysanthemum.

Let’s see what we had:

Left: Fried Wanton(RM5), 10 pieces, pretty salty.

Right: Steamed Sio Bee(RM0.60 each, we had 5), kinda tasteless to me but it was well received by my friends.

Left: Chicken Chop(RM9.50), I love the potato. The sauce was mushroom sauce, it was salty at the beginning but after few mouths, it’s not salty anymore hmmm… I might have eaten the part with lump of salt ;p.

Right: Tomato Kueh Tiaw(RM4.50), it was OK. That’s what my friend said.

Left: Fried Bihun(RM4.50), it wasn’t salty at the beginning but the more my friend ate, the more salty it got.

Right: We played this while waiting for our food *LOL* After dinner, we played chess and somebody got his fair share of beginner’s luck hehehe…

I would say coming here for a drink is not so bad. Food is reasonably priced but just like many other feedback that I heard, the food is salty. As if their salt is free! *LOL* They should cut down on the salt.
