Singapore Trip: Day 3(19/8/09): Part 3.4: Red House, Robertson Walk

Posted on September 7, 2009November 11, 2009 By sweet surrender No Comments on Singapore Trip: Day 3(19/8/09): Part 3.4: Red House, Robertson Walk

Let’s come back to my trip post, birthday post will be put on hold for the time being as I don’t have any photo for it.

After Clarke Quay, my friend brought us to Robertson Walk.

I love the place the minute I stepped my foot there! I love the ambiance. I can imagine my wedding being held here *LOL* But this will be just dream because it’s not possible for me to have my wedding here, fly all my guests to Singapore? Book this whole place down? It’s crazy! Hahaha… In real life, I won’t be doing all these, very troublesome and wasting money, just sign and go will do. I don’t care about the wedding, all I care is the marriage.

*BLEK* Anyway ;p Enough of the fantasy. Let’s go to place we had our dinner, it’s called Red House. A Chinese restaurant. Just walked along the river and you will spot it.

Left: A section of the place. There’s a huge ceiling fan. I did take the photo but can’t see a thing because it’s turning and couldn’t fit into my lens, it’s so HUGE! Found something similar in the Internet, bigassfans.com, go check it out, it’s something like that.

Right: Chinese tea, free flow, don’t know how much was the charge.

Left: Signature Creamy Custard Prawn(SGD7 for 100gm), NICE prawns! Yum yum… This is one of their signature dish, not disappointing at all, two thumbs up from me. *drool*

Right: Braised Spinach Tofu & Honshimeji Mushroom topped with Crisp Conpoy (small, SGD14), very unique tofu. Don’t know how to explain the taste but it tasted good for me. This is also their signature dish.

Left: New Zealand Tender Venison on Sizzling Hot Plate(medium, SGD27) Quite nice, tasted good and very tender. Also their signature dish.

Right: Red House Mee Goreng(small, SGD12), obviosuly this si also their signature dish. Hmm… Nothing much to rave about it, it’s just Malay style mee goreng. Pretty spicy though for those that cannot tolerate spiciness.

Left: Braised Ee Fu Noodle with Assorted Mushroom and Chives(small, SGD10), the noodle is quite “Q”, tasted not bad too.

Right: Sambal Kang Kong(I assume this is small, SGD10) tasted so-so but very very spicy.

There was a small dish of peanuts and they did provide us with wet towel too. These two are charged too of course and it’ll be automatically added to your bill.

The total was hehehe… Quite expensive, more than SGD100! It’s my friend’s treat. Feel so paiseh la… Next time you come to Kuching, I’ll treat you really really well hahaha… That’s all I can do to pay your deed for treating us expensive meal and drove us around.

I managed to exchange name card with the manager there. This is the only place where I didn’t get weird glares or stares when I took photos of the food.

I quite like this place even though the food price is a bit high but if the figures are in Ringgit, it’s pretty reasonable.

After the dinner we went to Fullerton Hotel, One Fullerton, and Merlion Park. That will be next post.

The Venue

Had my birthday dinner at The Venue, RH Plaza. Didn’t know where to go and dad suggested this place as he went there for his gathering the other day and wanted us to try the food. It’s not that the food is good that he brought us there, it’s just to let us try out what he had tried since we’ve never been there.

Didn’t order much. First dish was mixed vegetables(RM16). It’s quite salty but part of the portion was tasteless -.-”

Second dish was O Jien(RM20), only 10 oysters on it. Very crispy. It tasted it supposed to be tasted but a bit expensive compare to other places that we had before.

Third dish was beehoon special(RM20). EXPENSIVE! Kinda salty too. There’s a lot of dried prawns. Portion was a bit big for 5 of us. However, still managed to finish it.

Fourth dish was deer meat with ginger(RM15). Hmm… The mixed vegetables is cheaper than the deer meat. Anyway, extremely salty -.-” We complained to them and they said will cook a new one for us. When it came, it was still so salty but my dad said it’s not. Then I tried the portion at my dad’s side, it’s not that salty, then he tried the portion at my side, it was. Aiyayaya… The salt wasn’t properly mix *sweat*

The last dish was buttered prawn(RM20). First time in my life having salty buttered prawn. I ate, ate, ate, it was salty but my mom said it was not. We suspected they might have mix up the salt and sugar and added salt twice, else how come all the food so salty?!!? Then I ate the last piece, guess what!??! It’s tasteless. Could taste the sweetness but only a bit and the salt overpowered the sweetness.

According to my dad, that time when he had all those food with his friends, it tasted different. Hmm… I really wonder what was wrong that night? Salt instead of sugar? Hmm…

So… There you go… My salty birthday dinner. Total bill came to RM98.40 inclusive of 2 bowls of plain rice and 3 tinned drinks. I would say this is quite expensive. We were all not very satisfied with the food. Rather go to eat seafood. Usually we had seafood, the bill would only come to a total of below RM80.

Singapore Trip: Day 3(19/8/09): Part 3.3: Clarke Quay

Posted on September 3, 2009August 26, 2010 By sweet surrender No Comments on Singapore Trip: Day 3(19/8/09): Part 3.3: Clarke Quay

ARG! No Streamyx! On Celcom now but so slow… I hate calling Streamyx Customer Service! Wasting time and have to answer the same old questions every single time and then will end up with a report number. GAH!

Ok.. Back to the Singapore trip post.

We wanted to go to Little India but after quite a lot of walking, we reached The Riverwalk and stopped for a while to look at the map. Guess what?!?! We’re not half way to Little India yet. So far away! I know… We could take MRT over but felt that it’s not worth it coz it’s so near but who knows it’s really far! There’s free shuttle to Little India but have to find the MRT station first. After so much walking, we were lazy to walk already so we scrapped Little India and we stopped at The Riverwalk to rest.

Next, we walked the underpass and reached Clarke Quay! Wah so fast, it’s so near. We thought the underpass won’t lead us there and we had to cross the road but we’re oh so wrong! ;p So excited that it’s only a short walk and here we were, at the Promenade. You just have to walk further to the bridge to go to this area you see in this photo but we were lazy so we just enjoyed the scenery from the Promenade.

Here! The famous Extreme Swing GX5. Can you spot the capsule? This is definitely not for the faint-hearted.

There’s a shopping complex called the Central. I didn’t go around this shopping complex. I took my time online there, cleared my inbox and so on because I haven’t got the chance to online properly as we were always on the move.

While waiting for my friend to pick us up, we had sushi from the Market.

Next up will be our dinner, finally some other place for food! Thanks to my friend else I will never have the chance to have something outside of food court!

Singapore Trip: Day 3(19/8/09): Part 3.2: Chinatown

Posted on September 1, 2009August 26, 2010 By sweet surrender No Comments on Singapore Trip: Day 3(19/8/09): Part 3.2: Chinatown

We went to Chinatown. There are many exits at the MRT station but no matter which one you take, you can still reach the same place, it’s just a matter of walking around the area.

This is one of the shopping complexes. The shopping complexes at Chinatown are not as trendy and as stylish as those in Orchard or other places. It reminded me of some what like Hopoh except bigger.

This is taken from Hong Lim Complex where you can find many Chinese medicine shops.

The views from the overhead bridge leading to Chinatown’s whole stretch of souvenirs shops and also the MRT station.

You can find lots and lots of souvenirs here.

We walked walked walked and thought of going to Little India but *LOL* we walked the wrong direction!

Anyway, this is the street that will be closed at night for the famous food heaven, Chinatown Food Street. Didn’t stay there for the food because we had other plan.

Had a seat at The FirePlace at Smith Street because I finally saw the ice cream booth, Uzumaki, again! I saw it at Bugis but was too full and no time to try the ice cream out. I’m attracted to the green booth with the fake ice creams in the glass cabinet ;p I took this opportunity/excuse to sit down there to rest since we’ve not been sitting down for hours ever since coming out of the MRT station, legs were so painful. Finally I could try the ice cream hahaha… It’s not cheap, SGD3 for a small cup! The most expensive I ever had, well… Considering converting it back to Ringgit. I ordered macha flavour. The weather was so hot, it melted really fast. The ice cream is pretty heavy in texture.

Good thing that the guys(I assume they are the owners) were really cooperative ;p Hehehe… Handsome summore! I asked the one who pumped the ice cream to hold it there so that I could take photo of it ;p Later I passed my name card to them.

I’m contended! *LOL* Finally managed to try the ice cream, got a place to rest and got handsome guys to see summore! I just realized I should have ask for their name cards.

Here… The street that will be closed from 6pm-12am on weekdays and 12pm-12am on weekends/public holidays and eve’s.

After the rest, we headed to Little India direction, we decided to walk there and I know it’s crazy! Along the way, came across Carpenter Street.

That’s all about Chinatown. Next will be… Stay tuned!

Singapore Trip: Day 3(19/8/09): Part 3.1: Sembawang

Posted on August 31, 2009September 1, 2009 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Singapore Trip: Day 3(19/8/09): Part 3.1: Sembawang

Third day, we started by going around Sembawang. We lived there *LOL*

We took the free shuttle to Sembawang Shopping Centre. The shuttle is free from the MRT station to the shopping centre. This is so convenient, most importantly it’s free!

There’s a children playground and water play area up there in the shopping centre.

Camwhored in the toilet again ;p Walked passed MOF, a Japanese cafe, and decided to take some photos of the “food”. I’m into these fake food thing. They looked so real and so nice. I just couldn’t help marvel at them every time I see them. It’s everywhere in Singapore! Just show you one of the ice creams on display.

Too bad… No chance to try the food out 🙁 They were not open yet, even if they do I don’t think I could try it out too. Plan changed that’s why.

We spent our whole morning there even though the place is not big coz we spent most of the time at Cotton On. Managed to buy 2 cardigans there, 2 for SGD10. One for me, one for my sis.

After that, we rode the free shuttle back to Sembawang MRT station. It’s already noon, so we decided to have our lunch at the new food court at the MRT station before head out to Chinatown.

It’s called Foodfare. Not a very big food court, even smaller than Tun Jugah’s. The design looks quite clean.

Left: Salmon Pete+Chicken Terriyaki Bento (SGD5.30), nothing much to rave, it’s edible ;p
Right: Hokkien Mee (SGD3, normal price is SGD3.50), nothing much to rave also hahaha…

We had dessert, Red Ruby(SGD1.70). Ice shavings with coconut cream, sago pearls, jellies, water chesnut, and syrup. It’s actually modified version of a type of Thai dessert called Tab Tim Grob aka Red Rubies. I quite like it 😉 I always love this dessert and it’s a must for me if I’m dining in a Thai restaurant.

After lunch, off we went to our destination of the day.
