6 Easy Ways to Wrap Wonton

Posted on February 5, 2024 By sweet surrender No Comments on 6 Easy Ways to Wrap Wonton

Here’s 6 ways I wrap my wonton with wonton wrapper. Very easy. Just watch the video to learn it. I’m sure you will know how to do it after this.

Not sure why this kind of video isn’t popular on my YouTube and Instagram but it’s gaining lots of traction on my Facebook page. This is the second video I uploaded on YouTube about wrapping dumpling tutorial. They are simple to do and easy to follow.

I made another video back in 2021. It didn’t get much attention too.

Anyway, hope you’ll find this useful.

Feel free to check out my YouTube channel and My Kitchen for more baking and cooking adventures.

Oh! In case you do have XiaoHongShu 小红书, feel free to follow me there at 艾艾倪 . The language I used on this platform is exclusively Chinese using Simplified Chinese.

By the way, I just started Lemon8, feel free to follow me there at Lovebellbelle. The language used here is a mixture of English and Malay.

A Half-day Trip to Darlington and Lunch

Posted on December 27, 2023December 26, 2023 By sweet surrender No Comments on A Half-day Trip to Darlington and Lunch

We went to Darlington to window shop and had lunch when we were in the UK during summer. We’re supposed to buy something there but ended up buying nothing. We had lunch and left.

Darlington is a market and industrial town in County Durham, England. It is the main administrative centre of the unitary authority Borough of Darlington. The borough is a constituent member of the devolved Tees Valley area.

Didn’t do much here. Didn’t take many photos too. Here are what I shared on my Instagram.

Before we head home, we had out lunch at Uno Momento. They served traditional Italian fare and cocktails. You can find relaxed and cozy quarters with pavement seating. The business was really good. It was packed. Luckily we managed to get a table for 8 of us without much waiting. The service was good. However, we were disappointed with the steaks and mussels that we ordered. It has many branches around the UK. Maybe it’s just our luck that day as there are actually many good reviews about them. That’s one of the reasons we decided to dine there.

Happy Winter Solstice 2023

Posted on December 20, 2023December 13, 2023 By sweet surrender No Comments on Happy Winter Solstice 2023

Winter Solstice or Dong Zhi falls on 22 December 2023. It’s that time of the year again. It’s time to eat tang yuan aka glutinous rice balls. This year, I’m making something different. Since I know how to make my own peach gum tong sui now, I’m gonna add the glutinous rice balls in it.

I’m not making the tang yuan from scratch though. This time I’m using frozen ones. The frozen glutinous rice balls are not sponsored. Just happened that I bought from the local supermarket. All you need to do is cook the tong sui like usual. In another pot, boil the frozen tang yuan by following the instructions on the packet. Serve them together when they’re all cooked. No rocket science 😉

Fell free to check out another two tang yuan recipe that I’ve shared previously:

Lastly, wishing you a blessed winter solstice. Have fun trying! Feel free to check out my YouTube channel and My Kitchen for more baking and cooking adventures.

How to Clean & Cook Peach Gum

Posted on December 13, 2023December 13, 2023 By sweet surrender 1 Comment on How to Clean & Cook Peach Gum

Do you like peach gum dessert? Usually I would buy this dessert. The portion is getting less and expensive. I decided to make it myself and bought a packet from the Chinese medicine shop and made it myself. It’s priced at RM65/kg. Of course, I didn’t buy 1kg haha… It’s a lot. Only bought it at about RM16+ per packet.

How to clean it?

You don’t even need a lot when making it for one or two person. Just need 7-10 pieces. It’s best to soak in clean drinkable water for 24 hours. However, some people only soak it for 12 hours or overnight. You’ll just have to check it to see how’s the texture turned out. Once there is no hard center, it’s ready.

Do buy the those that looked clean visually without many black spots. That way, you don’t have to take so much time to clean it. Here’s the video on how you clean it before cooking:

How to cook it?

The ingredients I used were water, red dates, peach gum, and rock sugar. You can add dried longan too. I didn’t have it. You can just add anything you like. Boil them for at least 10 minutes. Then, add rock sugar and boil for another 5-10 minutes. Lastly, you can serve it warm or cold. Very simple, isn’t it?

Some people cook with slow cooker or pressure cooker. Some even boil it over big flame for over 30 minutes then continue to let it boil for another 10-15 minutes with small flame. I don’t think you need to cook that long but if you want to, you can too. No difference to me. The texture feels the same to me. The only difference I noticed is that they only soaked it for 12 hours or overnight.

Will you do it yourself?

No doubt, preparations need a lot of time and it has to be done advance. Buying outside is of course more convenient and fast. There is not need to wait but it’s more satisfying to make it myself. I can put anything I want and be generous with the ingredients. However, once you know how to make it at home, you won’t want to buy from outside anymore.

Lastly, have fun trying! Check out my YouTube channel and My Kitchen for more baking and cooking adventures.

Half-Day in Edinburgh, Scotland

Posted on October 20, 2023October 12, 2023 By sweet surrender No Comments on Half-Day in Edinburgh, Scotland

In the morning, we spent it at Seton Sands Holiday Park. In the afternoon, we drove to Edinburgh. It’s a 30-minute drive from the holiday park. Edinburgh is a windy and hilly city. The sun was very bright that day. Meanwhile, the wind was quite chilly at where we parked.

Calton Hill

Our first stop was Calton Hill. It’s a well-known and a must-visit tourist attraction in Edinburgh. Otherwise, your trip to Edinburgh won’t be complete. Furthermore, it’s a UNESCO Heritage Site. The wind was strong but it was not cold at all on the hill.

Edinburgh

You can see the overview of Edinburgh city from here. The weather forecast said that it was going to rain. However, we were fortunate to have a fine weather. Do wear a cap or hat if you want to protect your head from the sun. Umbrella is not recommended. However, do make sure it’s securely fastened else it will surely fly away!

This popular landmark on Calton Hill has a rich history of its own just like all the other monuments or buildings there. This is called the National Monument of Scotland also known as “Athens of the North”. The structure is unfinished. It’s meant to commemorate Scots who had died in the Napoleonic Wars.

Next, this is the view of Arthur’s Seat from Calton Hill. It’s the highest point of the city. We were greeted by it when we arrived in Edinburgh. Arthur’s Seat can be seen from many locations in Edinburgh. We had a good view of it from where we parked. It’s an ancient volcano which was erupted 350 million years ago.

If you want to go for a hike, go ahead! If you are used to rugged terrains, this is a piece of cake. Just need a pair of comfortable walking shoes is all it takes. Of course, do bring some snacks and drinks with you. You’ll be rewarded with a great view of the city at the end of the hike.

A Walk through the Streets of Edinburgh

After the walk and taking photos at Calton Hill, we walked back down to go back to the street. There’s no need to rush. A leisurely walk is good enough. It’s a hilly city walk with many interesting centuries-old architectures to discover.

However, there were so many people in the city due to the festival. Certain sections were quite crowded. I could not admire the architectures with such amount of crowds. If you want to have a better look at the city’s architecture, it is best to come before or after the festival. When we were there, all we wanted was to get out of the crowded streets as fast as we could.

It was a sight of relief once we got out of the crowded streets. There was no crowd near the Edinburgh Castle. The castle itself has quite an impressive history of its own. You can go in for a visit but it’s not free. It is recommended to buy the ticket in advance as it tends to sell out to avoid disappointment. We did not visit it as we only had half a day to spare in Edinburgh.

Mussels for Dinner

We continued walking down the hill to go back to the city centre for dinner. Our early dinner was at Mussel Inn (61-65 Rose St, Edinburgh EH2 2NH, United Kingdom), an award-winning seafood restaurant in Edinburgh. We tried mussels in other parts of the UK/EU before. This is the best so far.

After the early dinner, we went for a walk in Primark. It was just opposite the restaurant. Then, it was time to go back and call it a day.
