Heong Peah

Posted on February 2, 2007February 15, 2007 By sweet surrender 12 Comments on Heong Peah

The Chinese are sure familiar with Heong Peah(“heong”=fragrance/nice smelling, “peah”=biscuits/cookies). Usually you can find it easily at places where they sell “bak poh” or “bak kua” or sell mooncakes. For me, no two Heong Peah taste the same. They are unqiue to the maker. They have slightly different taste for the filling and the crust texture.

The basic ingredients for Heong Peah are wheat flour for the crust, cooking oil, molasses, sugar, salt, onions and lenga for the filling. Some makers sprinkle sesame seeds on the crust for extra taste.

The crust is crispy and crumbles easily. It’s not easy to eat, usually I’ll ended up having all the crumbs on the floor or table or even on my clothes and my lips(it’s worst if u have lip balm or gloss on :P).

Ken bought two types back last year and gave it to us.

This is from Teluk Intan, Perak by Chin Lian Hoe. The diameter is smaller compare to the one from Yee Hup(see below) but they have thicker crust. However, they don’t crumbled as much as Yee Hup’s(see below). Filling wise they are not as sticky as Yee Hup’s(see below).

This is from Ipoh, Perak by Yee Hup. They are bigger than Chin Lian Hoe(see above) but the crust is thinner and crispier. I prefer this filling but not this crust because they crumbled a lot. They are thinner as you can see from the photo and have more spacie inside. They claimed that this one is baked with charcoal that is why the taste is different. I’m not sure whether Chin Lian Hoe’s is baked using charcoal or not.

Packaging wise, I prefer the one from Yee Hup.

Obviously, the winner for this is Yee Hup. *LOL* However, I don’t think this is fair πŸ˜› You see… If you want to compare, then should compare both that are using the same baking method. Hahaha… Basically, I just want to introduce Heong Peah to you. Forget about the result πŸ˜›

Any Taker To Genting?

Posted on February 1, 2007February 2, 2007 By sweet surrender 7 Comments on Any Taker To Genting?

OK… Gone are the cruises. I’m planning to go to Genting this April during weekdays, low season. Anyone wants to follow? Of course, you have to pay your own expenditure which include return air ticket, transportations to KL Sentral, to & fro Genting and accomodation of First World Hotel, 2 days 3 nights3 days 2 night.

It’s not a package but the room quote is for twin sharing. First World Hotel’s standard room rate is about RM38.88 per night(promotion price now) for two persons on weekdays inclusive of breakfast. There is no room for single person. You will have to find another friend to come along to get that rate, else you can also stay at the room yourself by paying that rate. You can go to Genting’s website to check the price. Air Asia is having offer of RM29.99 for flying to KL(one way excluding tax). The transportation from the airport to KL Sentral and then to Genting is less than RM30.

My problem is that, someone has agree to go with me but is a “He”. I won’t be able to go if the travel companion is a “He”. There is no way I can go if he’s the only one going with me. *SIGH* I had asked so many friends but they already have their own travel plan this year or they can’t get leaves :(. Therefore, I would like to ask whoever that is interested to go to Genting to join us. We’ll go to Genting together, board the same flight and go to Genting together as a group. Interested?

Then, of course when at Genting, you can do whatever you want, it doesn’t have to be a group activity. I would recommend those that always want to go to Genting but not sure how to go there to join us or if you’ve been there and wanted to go again, you are welcome too. It doesn’t matter as long that you want to go. That way, you will have people to guide/accompany you up there.

We are taking the advantage of the offer price of air tickets and the rooms rates now. The offer for Air Aisa will end on 7th February, so if you want to go, do act fast. We are planning to board the earliest flight on 23rd April, that way we’ll reach Genting around noon, it will be about time to check-in by then. Anyone? *teary eyes*

*SIGH* If still no taker, then this plan is off again. ANYONE?!??! Gosshh… I’m desperate πŸ™

Anyway, if really have to call it off then be it. I hope this post will help give a bit of information to those that want to go to Genting. Besides, it’s Visit Malaysia Year this year, consider this an SEO post πŸ˜›

Mom bought a pack of cute cupcakes back. They are so mini. They are butter cakes baked in small cups that are usually for cookies. Aren’t they adorable?

Why It Can’t Be One?

Posted on January 30, 2007January 31, 2007 By sweet surrender 18 Comments on Why It Can’t Be One?

By the way, the cruise that I had mentioned that day is no longer available. It’s selling like hot cakes. However, they have another offer for January-March and only RM838/person including free shore excursion. AWWW!!! So cheap! However *cry* the price only valid for 4 persons per sign up.

Saw MAS Golden Holiday package!!! MAS is having offer now!! Package to Perth is SOooO…cheap! BUT… It’s only for twin-sharing! GRRRRRRRRR… Make me even more angry. Air Asia have their holiday packages too and it’s on twin-sharing basis too! Sucks la!!!

Why all these travel packages only valid for 2 or more people travelling together? πŸ™ Hate it! Hate it! Why can’t it be one? Why must be on twin-sharing basis?!?! Darn! So unfair! I know lar… It’s all because of quantity else they won’t be able to offer such affordable packages. If you plan to go alone, you have to pay two persons price. *ANGRY* It’s not easy to find a travel companion don’t even say find another 3 persons for a trip!

It’s so unfair for people that wants to travel alone and would like to take up those yummy offers. If you insist of going alone, then you have to pay for 2 persons’ fee to enjoy the package. πŸ™ As if being single or travelling alone is a crime that people don’t want to recognise your singlehood. SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS!

You might even said that, following the tour groups or whatever is no fun, better venture the place yourself. I do agree! I hate following tour groups. Besides, they are on twin-sharing basis too. However, even prices for Free & Easy packages only valid for twin-sharing. *CUSS* It’s so hard to find a suitable travel companion ok?!?!? If found the wrong one, your holiday will be ruin to the max. Of course, I cannot find a male companion unless we are NOT require to share a room. Or… Well.. Some might say, “plan your own travel then”. It’s not for everyone OK?!?!? At leats not for me! I’m not the lucky bunch that get to travel once or twice a year, I only have the chance only-God-knows-when. Besides, all my travels before(KL in 2006, S’pore in 2003 and Sibu almost 10 years ago) were pre-arranged and I didn’t require to do anything except tagged myself along.

My whole life… The furthest I’ve been to is KL. Pathetic huh? So… I need to start somewhere like signing up packages as a start to gain some experiences. When I’m more experienced, then I can go and plan my own holiday! Don’t know how to crawl already want to run meh? The main point is that all the packages need you to bring someone along!!!

*Sigh*… What to do? That’s how the world works, those who are singles usually will not have the privilege. I must… I must… I must… Find a boyfriend who is rich enough to bring me travel to anywhere in this world! NUH…. I don’t think my parents will even allow me to go travel with my boyfriend unless he’s my husband. That way, not only that I’ll have a travel companion but also a husband. Kill two birds with one stone! How nice! CRAP! Ignore that part.

Sze Hua Bak Kut Teh

Posted on January 28, 2007January 29, 2007 By sweet surrender 7 Comments on Sze Hua Bak Kut Teh

HAHAHA… Another bak kut teh round! Two days in a row!!! It’s somewhere near the one we had yesterday. This one is nearer to Kaya & Toast. When you stand in between Chicking and Kaya & Toast, you’ll be able to see it. I’m not very sure of the bak kut teh shop’s name. It sounded like “Sze Hua Bak Kut Teh” and you can notice the Chinese name have the word “Johor” there. I guess… This is from Johor. Went there because Madam Tang’s was closed and so we let Sandra and her husband decide where to eat and he spotted BAK KUT TEH hahaha… That’s how we ended there.

All these cost RM40 for 4 persons including drinks. Much more expensive than the one I had yesterday. The taste is not as good as the one yesterday. The side orders such as the veggies(brinjail-left and siao bai chai-right) weren’t very nice. The “you cha kueh”(picture next to the chilies) is soft. According to Sandra’s husband whose hometown is in China said that it has the taste of home.

We were kinda shocked to see that the brinjail was green in colour! Didn’t expect it. We thought we were given the wrong dish but it’s correct. So funny. What a surprise. I didn’t know that brinjail is green πŸ˜› I thought it’s purple and also I had never had any brinjail cooked this way. Now… Really a certified “suaku”. *LOL* Good thing I’m not the only one HAHAHA!!

Thanks for the treat Sandra πŸ™‚ Nice meeting you.

Blogging since 2002. Anything before 2006 is no longer available. It is no longer on this server. Back then, I built my own blog and updated it using HTML. No database or anything. Only started blogging fully with a CMS in 2006. However, whatever was on the Internet will stay on the Internet. So... It should be still somewhere on the Internet. Then again... Why do you want to dig that far?
