Chinese New Year 2007 – Day 1 (Lion Dance)

Posted on February 18, 2007February 20, 2007 By sweet surrender 11 Comments on Chinese New Year 2007 – Day 1 (Lion Dance)

Before the clock striked twelve, there were already fireworks and firecrackers everywhere, these were just warm ups even though it rained, few minutes before 12, it’s getting more intense and lasted for almost 1 hour. Some shoots, no tripod, so don’t expect any nice photos hahaha…

I woke up at about 10am this morning πŸ˜› Hahaha… Woke up at 7.30am and then went back to sleep. Around 2pm, I went to Jimmy’s house for a short visit before going over to Lee’s house to watch lion dance performance. We were invited to withness the lion dance by Lee. Even if he didn’t invite us, we would be visiting him too. Nothing to do at home. So bored. I’ve been visiting Lee’s house on the first day ever since few years back. Then second visit when we had our group visiting. I did mention that I’m going to hunt for lion dance this year *LOL* Now I got it! Here’s the photos to share with you, not much, just a few shoots coz the rest are almost the same.

The troop reached Lee’s house at 3pm and shortly after we arrived, they started. First they let off firecrackers to start the dance. The lions danced at the main gate and gradually into the house. I was choked by the firecrackers smoke. *cough cough* By the way, fireworks and firecrackers are banned in Malaysia but I don’t think anyone cares about the ban.

Inviting or to be exact hiring lion dance troop to dance at your house or shop or office is to bring in luck. You will pay them by putting the money into the red packet a.k.a ang pao. Usually people will offer pamelo and cabbage together with the ang pao. The lion will peel the pamelo and the cabbage, then take the ang pao(see the bottom right photo).

After Lee’s house, we went to Jimmy’s house. At about 6pm, we called it a day. I’m still not really in CNY mood -_-“

Supper @ Best Berry

Posted on February 17, 2007February 17, 2007 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Supper @ Best Berry

On Thursday night, it rained. We closed our stall early. Then went for supper. Couldn’t think of where to go and ended up at Best Berry.

Left: The ceiling.
Right: Fried Chicken Wing(RM4.90). I prefer grill one.
Left: Kiwi Tea Squash(RM3.50). Last time they had Kiwi slice in there but now no more, they blended them into the tea. According to the owner, they decided to do that because all the Kiwi slices were thrown away because patrons didn’t eat them. They felt that it’s very wasteful. Indeed very wasteful and Kiwi fruits aren’t cheap.
Right: Iced Orange Tea(RM3).

I like their drinks there. Especially the iced teas. I don’t know why but some how I have difficulty to pick what food to order there πŸ˜› They have so many types of food. By the way, lots of ice desserts too. Next time will try out one of them hehehe… Never had one before.

We chatted with the owners that night. Chatted till midnight summore *LOL* We talked about so many things, almost everything under the sun. Nice to meet you, Chris and Vivien.

By the way, CNY coming soon. That’s tomorrow. It’s not easy to find a place to dine out during these period of time, even if got, it’s only McD, KFC and Pizza Hut. If not then the coffeeshop will charge you more. I remember once that we had kole mee on the 3rd day of CNY at a coffeeshop and we were charge freaking RM5 for a normal kolo mee that cost only RM2 on normal days.

No worries anymore! The good news is that Best Berry is open on the 1st to 3rd day of CNY from 10am-12am. They are not going to mark up their food and drinks. Don’t be afraid to go there during CNY hehehe… They are ethical businesswomen. The best part is that, you get to take part in their LUCKY DRAW!!! You have the chance to take away RM1K!!! Besides that, there are also other prices to be won too such as vouchers. This will happen on the 1st and 2nd day of CNY.

They will close on 9th March 2007-12th March 2007 as they are going for a fishing trip at Sabah! So… All you kaki pancing… Do look for them if you would like to get to know more fishing enthusiats in Kuching. Fishing is usually guys’ hobby. They are the ladies that like to fish, it’s rare. Don’t you think?

Oh… I’m not paid to blog about it! I still pay for what I had ordered. Just happened to get to know them so might as well introduce them to you πŸ™‚

Madam Tang’s

Posted on February 17, 2007February 17, 2007 By sweet surrender 9 Comments on Madam Tang’s

Went to Madam Tang’s for lunch the other day. Haven’t had any laksa for a long long time… Craving for it.

Left: The interior. Non air-conditioned.
Right: Drinks, ice lemon tea(RM1.20) and fresh barley(RM1.20).
Left: Regular Laksa(RM4). They have Special too.
Right: New menu, not really new actually. Should say the latest addition to the menu, Nasi Lemak.

The laksa portion is more now. The laksa here is recommended, thick enough. Taste better than previously. Still I don’t really like the sambal.

Rose, Lizard & Licence

Posted on February 16, 2007February 17, 2007 By sweet surrender 7 Comments on Rose, Lizard & Licence

Too many things to blog, will combine three things in this post πŸ˜› There will be two more posts lining up tomorrow.

This is the rose that Jimmy gave me on Valentine’s Day. Alysha and Pinky each also got one from him too. Hehehe… Thank you. PIG! πŸ˜› You called us PIG, we called you PIG too.

This lizard went for a ride with me this afternoon. It had proved that it has very powerful legs to hang on there until I reached my destination.

OMG! I had been driving illegally for more than one and half month πŸ˜› Luckily that nosy Jimmy saw my expired driving licence after flipping tru’ my card folder. Luckily it’s only 3.15pm and still in time to renew it at the post office. If not, I can’t drive this coming CNY. I dare not to drive without valid driving licence during time like this as the police are out there doing their job to make sure people drive safely during the festive season. Phew… I reached the post office at about 3.30pm, queued up and at about 3.50pm I got my licence renewed. The post office closed at 4pm. I thought that I had just renewed it not long ago and realised that my not-long-ago was 5 years ago!!! Goodness gracious… Time flies and 5 years seemed to be so short. 5 years was not-long-ago (-.-“)…

I remembered that I told myself that my driving licence and passport expired this year. Then when there was a plan to go for a cruise, I remembered that my passport expired this July and if the plan worked out, I will need to renew my passport. However, I had totally forgotten all about my driving licence that expired on 1.1.2007. Phew… Finally got my driving licence renewed.

Tomorrow is the eve of CNY and will be busy with my spring cleaning. Haven’t start yet.

Blogging since 2002. Anything before 2006 is no longer available. It is no longer on this server. Back then, I built my own blog and updated it using HTML. No database or anything. Only started blogging fully with a CMS in 2006. However, whatever was on the Internet will stay on the Internet. So... It should be still somewhere on the Internet. Then again... Why do you want to dig that far?
