Road Trip to Betong – Part 2

Posted on February 24, 2010August 26, 2010 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Road Trip to Betong – Part 2

Finally we reached Bukit Saban Resort Camp at around 10.30am. Before that we made a stop at Petronas for another toilet break and asked people which direction to go to the national service camp. It was a really looong way to the camp, we kept asking ourselves how far more to go *LOL*

The canteen and activity area of the camp. Visitors were only allowed to be at this area. There were so many parents, family members, and relatives that day. Visitors could even eat the food prepared that day at the canteen but of course most won’t go for it *LOL* Could see many “Pizza Hut” and “KFC” there hahaha… We had KFC.

Left: The place where the trainees were staying.

Right: Water activities equipments.

We left at around 2.30pm and decided to pay a visit to Sri Aman. Love the mountain views!

Left: Sri Aman was only 9KM from the junction to Betong. However, the 9KM really took ages because of the road. It’s tarred, just that due to the geographical condition, it slowed us a lot.

Right: The stadium at Sri Aman.

Finally we were greeted by some sort of modernity after passing by miles and miles of jungle, mountain, farms and so on.

The doves that symbolized the town, too bad I didn’t get to take a really good photo of it as we didn’t make any stop. We just drove and drove. Aman means peace in Malay.

I assume this is the place where you can see the tidal bore of the Batang Lupar River. I’m not sure when the phenomenon will take place, it will happen few times a year if not mistaken.

After Sri Aman, we headed down to the direction of Kuching. See the mountain? Nice!

On the way down, I asked my dad to stop by Mount Hosana as I wanted to take photo of the famous Mount Hosana Jesus Prayer Chapel. Drove too fast and not so sure on the exact location, we overshot the junction, lucky there’s no car behind so my dad quickly made a fast reversing into the junction.

There you go… The church. Seriously, I don’t think I can climb up there hahaha… There’s no hand reel and going down isn’t very easy also ;p

Took some photos of the church and we went straight down to Kuching.

Showing you the mountain view again! Just can’t help it. It’s really a magnificent view.

That’s the end of our first road trip to Betong.

Part 3 coming up, it will be the second road trip to Betong that happened last Saturday.

Road Trip to Betong – Part 1

Posted on February 23, 2010August 26, 2010 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Road Trip to Betong – Part 1

Went to Betong to visit my brother’s national service camp few weeks back. It’s my first time having a long distant road trip with my parents. The furthest we had traveled by car was to Sematan. We had never gone beyond that distant. The road trip to Betong took us about 4-5 hours as we made few stops along the way.

Journey started at 6am on 24th January 2010. First stop was KFC at Sarawak Plaza as my brother wanted KFC. First time bought KFC so early in the morning.

We made a stop at Serian to go to the toilet before continuing our journey. Basically I’ll just show you the scenerythat greeted us along the way.

We stopped at Lachau for another toilet break. This is a popular place for travelers to stop for toilet break , eat something or buy some jungle produce.

It’s a very small town with only few rows of shops.

This is the market.

After 45 minutes there for toilet break, simple breakfast, and walked around the place, we continued our journey to Betong. I really love the mountain view. It’s magnificent. The photos just can’t tell you how magnificent it was. You really have to see it with your own eyes. It’s like a huge and long stretch of green wall. Do refer to the first photo in this post, it’s just part of the mountain.

Left: Another part of the same mountain.

Right: The paddy field along the way.

Left: The mountain again.

I wonder how long this mountain will be here to stay. Imagine that the mountain is gone in years to come, maybe not so soon but eventually it will be gone one day. It’s possible! It’s going to be a really sad case. If not mistaken, this is the mountain that separates Indonesia and Sarawak.

Right: Turn right to Betong. Straight up, it’s Sri Aman, this is where you can find the famous Tidal Bore of Sarawak.

That’s all for now. Will continue again tomorrow.

Bye Bye KL 8th January 2010

Posted on February 22, 2010August 26, 2010 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Bye Bye KL 8th January 2010

8th January was our last day in KL. It was raining so heavily that morning luckily it stopped around 10am.

We headed to Sungei Wang and I bought 2 more dresses while waiting for the phone accessories shop to open as we bought a faulty battery there and went there to get a change. However, we just found out few days ago from my brother that the battery wasn’t faulty at all. It’s just that the capacity of the battery is so much lower than the original phone battery. *LOL*

I didn’t buy any clothes at the shop you see in the photo. The other one is a shop specialized in sex related products(obviously ;p). The phone accessories shop was located just next to it. The shop selling clothes was opposite it.

After Sungei Wang, we went to Low Yat and then Time Square. We got lost trying to locate the exit of Sungei Wang! Told you so… When you don’t need the exit, you kept seeing it, when you need it, it’s no where to be seen! We tried to located Time Square but failed. After asking so many people, finally we found it. Everyone told us we could reach Time Square from one of the exits of Sungei Wang but we couldn’t find it *LOL*

We finally got to the back door and I realized that Low Yat was just outside! ARG! Then Time Square was just opposite. We wasted so much time getting lost as usual. Went into Low Yat for a brief visit just to show my parents the place where people getting their gadgets in KL.

Our main aim was to go to Time Square as I wanted to get Krispy Kreme ;p I got it!

Bought 1 dozens, it cost RM23.90. 12 different donuts even though there’re two that looked similar. They actually tasted different.

I don’t remember what I bought. My conclusion, Krispy Kreme is too sweet for my liking. I’m referring to the fillings and toppings. Extremely sweet! Each of the donut was practically coated with a layer of sugar. Imagine the sweetness from that sugar coating along with the toppings and fillings. I really couldn’t stand it. I prefer JCo or Big Apple.

Thought of settling our lunch at Time Square but was too lazy and tired to locate more eateries there so decided to go try out the pan mee shop near 41Berangan since we passed by the place everyday and the place was always packed to the brim. We figured it must be one of the places for good food. It’s just few houses away.

This is the famous pan mee shop located at Jalan Berangan. The place was so packed! We had to wait to for empty table. Lucky for us, there’s a table available, we were basically sharing tables with other people.

Was quite lost in what to order. Luckily they had set lunch promotion and we went for it. It made the ordering so much easier, there’s a list there on the table. The set came with the pan mee + fish ball + meat ball + drink + a pack of facial tissue. Small set was RM7.50 and big set was RM8. There were 16 types of pan mee dishes for you to choose!

Left: You can choose to have herbal tea(the brownish yellowish one) or cincau(black one) for the drink either hot or cold.

Right: Flat soup. The pan mee was served in soup along with dried anchovies, mushrooms, sweet leaf, meat balls, and fish balls.

Left: Flat dry.

Right: Thin dry.

The dry ones were served in thick black soya sauce.

Overall, the texture of the noodle was not bad. Pretty “Q”. Actually, It’s my first time having pan mee so I can’t really comment. However, we noticed that the taste of the flat dry and thin dry was different. I don’t know how to describe but the sauce tasted different. We thought it was the same. The flat one was on the sweeter note and the thin one was saltier.

If I’m not mistaken, they had been operation for 10 years or so. Used to be a stall and now they’re operating in a shop/house. You can see the photos, the histories, and newspapers articles on the wall.

After our lunch, we headed back to make final adjustment to our luggage. One was seriously overweight and we adjusted it for quite a while.

Our flight was at almost 8pm but we went to the airport at 3pm *LOL* Very early right? Was afraid of the jam and it was a Friday too. The taxi driver was quite surprised that we went to the airport so early. He told us that we didn’t have to as there’s new road which could reach LCCT faster, in about an hour! Aiks… Didn’t expect that ;p I forgot that we’re using taxi as the last time I went, I went to the airport tru’ KL Sentral by taking SkyBus. That’s why we had to check out earlier hahaha… The fare for taxi ride from 41Berangan to LCCT was RM90.

We reached the airport at almost 4pm, we got nothing to do, so we loitered around and then sat there took turn to take a nap. Was so tired. Then my dad decided to walk around again and came back with Marrybrown kiddy meal. Hahaha… We shared the kiddy meal and waited for dinner time. When dinner time came, we ended up at Marrybrown again ;p

Check-in was a bit of chaos because of some travelers tried to check-in with overweight luggage, the charge for overweight luggage was RM10/kilo! Expensive! They kept adjusting the stuffs in the bags and the queue was not moving -.-” What a waste of time.

Anyway, finally got ourselves check-in and waited for our ride home. The rain was extremely heavy and the plane reached slightly later than expected but we still reached Kuching on time. I’m lucky. Till now I never got my flight delayed with Air Asia. Not a single time.

That’s the end of my KL trip. Not sure will I be there again this year as we are planning for another one somewhere this year for my brother because he missed it due to national service. However, with my timetable this year… It’s hard to arrange one. We’ll see…

What a CNY!

Posted on February 21, 2010February 21, 2010 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on What a CNY!

I’m still not recovered from yesterday trip. Woke up early this morning to go to church. In fact I was thinking of skipping it but at the end dragged myself up to go since I didn’t go for almost one whole month. Came home, tried to take a nap but couldn’t nap at all. Wanted to update the final post of my KL trip but too lazy to edit the last batch of photos. Will do it tomorrow.

This year’s CNY is really something very different for me. What an experience! What’s the odd of being FFK(fong fei kei, in Cantonese; or put aeroplane, literally translated it to English ;p, it should be “standing someone up”) continuously for almost the first 8 days of CNY? How lucky am I? You people know who you are, I’m not going to point out one by one. A bit angry for the first few times but at the same time quite amused with what had happened after being FFK for almost everyday.

Even today, the lecturer also FFK me! I wasn’t informed that my class was canceled. I went there, checked the timetable, it didn’t say anything that it’s canceled. I went up, saw an empty classroom with the door wide opened, lights all on, air-cons all on, even the laptop was on stand-by. There’s nothing amiss.

I thought I was too early. I waited but no one came even few minutes before 2pm! I knew some people were early birds but strangely they were no where to be seen. So I sat there in an empty classroom, waiting. Felt playful, so I SMSed some classmates and they called up one by one telling me that the class was canceled. *faint* No wonder -.-” Some of them actually got the news while on the way to class and turned back. Luckily my house isn’t far else it would be wasting my time.

Seriously, I’m not that angry after being FFK for almost every single day for the passed 7 days. I didn’t expect I’m being FFK on the 8th day too! I’m really baffled and amused with this whole FFK thing that happened to me.

My conclusion for these incidents? I have no idea at all. I’m baffled and amused in a way. However, being FFK for almost everyday is really no fun. Wasted a lot of my time and energy preparing and waiting even though I have very high level of patience.

I don’t mind waiting if I have nothing else coming up as long as you show up or if I have something coming up, I’ll just let you know that I can’t wait anymore but being FFK is a whole different story especially when you would have done some other stuff but you rejected it for this particular stuff and ended up not doing anything but wasting time and energy.

Imagine if this is happening to you? What is your take on it?

Tired & Sleepy

Posted on February 20, 2010February 20, 2010 By sweet surrender No Comments on Tired & Sleepy

I don’t have much time or mood to come out with a proper post today. My eyes are too tired. Woke up at around 4am for a road trip to Betong. We were sending my bro back to the national service camp. I skipped my class today.

I haven’t even get to blog about the previous Betong trip yet and I went for another one this morning ;p Told you so… I have so many posts pending.

I’m going to keep it short for today. Really have to sleep already. Gonna wake up early tomorrow to church and then there will be class tomorrow afternoon. Gone are my weekends. This time it’s really gone. According to the academic calender I got, there is practically no weekend break for this year. Weekday breaks don’t count and make no difference for us with a job unless you’re a full time student.

Anyway, good night!
