Satay House

Posted on September 11, 2007November 21, 2008 By sweet surrender 4 Comments on Satay House

When talking about satay, most will think of the satay house at Satok area. The locals like me fondly known it as “satay house”, its real name is Hup Chen Hian Satay House. This should be the only satay house in Kuching.

This is where I had my birthday dinner with my family. This restaurant has decades of history I think because it’s here since I’m still a little girl. Many people will usually buy huge amount of satays from them for some functions or during festival seasons.

Left: Chinese tea.
Middle: The peanut, I like it. They will send to you without you asking for it and remember that this is charged into your bill. If you don’t want to be charged for it, ask them to take back. It’s not free flow. Don’t even dream of that hahaha…
Right: Just chilies and soy sauce.

Everyone goes there will surely order their satays else there is no point to dine there at all. However, the satays sometimes are good, sometimes are pretty tough. This is one of the places in Kuching where you can find pork satay hehehe… I’m not sure where else but here. If you need lots of pork satay, this is the only place you can get. Other places might not be able to supply you that much.

Left: Pork satay.
Middle: Rice, it will be charged per bowl.
Right: We ordered the set menu that cost RM35.80 for 4-5 people, this set came without pork but duck(will talk about the duck later). The soup you are seeing here is sea cucumber chicken soup. Pretty tasteless. It came in big bowl and they served them for us, hence the small bowl here.

There is another set that costs RM40.80, this comes with pork.

Left: “Balachan Cang Kong”, *LOL* it’s “belacan kangkong”!! My sis thought it’s something else so funny and turned out to be this!
Right: Sweet & Sour Fish Fillet hmmm… Quite sweet and the fish fillets looked more like chicken fillets hehehe…

Left: Boneless duck! See no bones but I ate bone! Small pieces of bones were found in there. This is what you call boneless duck! *LOL* very tough and it consisted of many powder instead of duck meat. The duck meat were very quite tough hmm… Two thumbs down for this.
Right: This is the wet towel. you’ll get charged for it too. If you don’t want, then tell them so that they won’t charge you for it.

Was so full! Too bad… the food wasn’t that nice but the satays of that night was tender and juicy. Spent around RM50+ for this dinner. Lost the receipt, so didn’t have the price breakdowns of the tea, the peanuts, the rice and the wet towel. As for the satay I think it’s 30cents or 40 cents per stick, can’t recall.

Blogging since 2002. Anything before 2006 is no longer available. It is no longer on this server. Back then, I built my own blog and updated it using HTML. No database or anything. Only started blogging fully with a CMS in 2006. However, whatever was on the Internet will stay on the Internet. So... It should be still somewhere on the Internet. Then again... Why do you want to dig that far?
