Lunch @ Mother’s Recipe

Posted on April 7, 2008April 7, 2008 By sweet surrender 10 Comments on Lunch @ Mother’s Recipe

Was invited to Mother’s Recipe to try out their food. My first time got invited to taste food for free hehehe… Felt strange when reached there *LOL* paiseh. There was a minor breakdown in communication earlier on, she thought we would go on Saturday but we went on Friday as we had changed the appointment time several times until we got confused ourselves. This means whatever we ate and saw that day(last Friday) were not specially prepared just to impress us, it’s just their usual stuffs.

She briefed us on how they started this business and of course introduced us to what they have to offer. Since there were 2 of us only and it’s our first time doing thing like this we were pretty shy *LOL* She asked us to order any food that we want but we didn’t know what to order. So we asked her to recommend. There were so much food! Portion wasn’t small too.

They serve home cook food, it’s really home cook style the Nyonya’s way, not fast food style. Even tasted very homey. Not many people appreciate it though. For those that seldom have chance to have proper meal at home or away from home, especially cooking from your mother, I’m sure you will appreciate it. No MSG added in the cooking. I’m not saying good thing about them because they let me eat for free, the fact is that it really tasted like my mother’s cooking.

Left: Pan-fried fish & lime (RM6), the fish will depends on the fish they have on that day. This one is hong boi(in Hokkien), they also have other meaty fish availabe as not many people will like to eat this. Me too, I don’t really like it but it really tasted like home.
Right: Ko Kua (Bitterground in Hokkien) stir-fried with eggs(small-RM6, medium-RM8), I’m sure you are familiar with this. Miss home now? I didn’t know how to eat this last time but now I kinda enjoy it especially fried with eggs or steamed it with the middle stuffed with pork .

Left: Mother’s blanched midin with ‘Ulam’ Dip (RM6), the “Ulam” Dip has santan in it. We usually have this at home by frying it with belacan minus the santan(coconut milk in Malay), this is Nyonya style according to the owner.
Right: Belacan Beehoon (Nyonya-Style) – RM5, usually the belacan beehoon we have is the wet type right? This one is dry. It’s just like eating salad. The belacan is spicy, sweet and sour.

Left: La Kia Kio(in Hokkien, I don’t know what it’s called in other languages hahaha…) Fish Soup(RM5), another homey dish. I love la kia kio.
Right: Mixed Veg Curry (RM5), their new dish. The curry was quite thick however the owner said they had diluted it a bit this time to see whether it’s acceptable by the diners or not as some people don’t like thick curry but still quite thick. Personally I like their Thick Nyonya Chicken Curry that I had last time.

Left: Cinchalok Dip (RM2.50), we sometimes have this at home too.
Right: The whole table for two of us only. Hahaha… We didn’t finish them all, only finished the curry, the la kia kio soup and the fried fish. She asked us to tapao the belacan beehoon back hahaha…

Though it’s Nyonya, it’s almost exactly like what I have at home everyday. Not that we are the Nyonya, just that I’m sure every home in Malaysia will sure be serving food like this at home.

By the way, it’s located near AmBank at Tabuan Laru. Just few shops away from J&J Cafetaria.

Dell XPS M1530 Review

Posted on April 6, 2008April 6, 2008 By sweet surrender 31 Comments on Dell XPS M1530 Review

Finally bought a new laptop!! It’s a Dell XPS M1530 for RM4199 at Pikom yesterday. My budget is around RM3000-4000. I narrowed it down to Toshiba, Sony and Dell and at the end Dell has better price with such kind of specifications. Besides, checked it online and only lower specifications available, it’s already RM4299. Therefore it’s really a deal.

Got free upgrade of RAM from 1GB to 2GB, a carry case, bluetooth and insurance for one year that worths more than RM400 for the laptop in case your laptop is stolen, burnt, flood or burglar carted it away for your house. Online offer only gives free optical mouse.

Performance wise, I haven’t check *LOL* For now it’s still new and clean, of course it’s fast and perform well except Vista that I hate! *LOL* From the Internet, the comments about the performance aren’t that bad. What kind of review is this?!?!? I’m concentrating more on the non-technical parts. At least I know it won’t be as slow and as lag as the one I’m using now.

Specifications(This is not full specifications, just some major ones):
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T8100(2.1Hhz/3MB/800Mhz)
2GB DDR-2 SDRAM(after upgrade)
15.4” WXGA Display with TrueLife™
250GB SATA Hard Drive
Integrated 2.0 mega pixel web cam(below left)
DVD Super Multi Dual Layer Drive(below right)

256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT
HDMI-out
Card reader(SD/MMC/Memorystick, just to name a few, I lazy to check the manual hahaha…)

Biometric FingerPrint Reader

MediaDirect one-touch-access

1-Year licensed Anti-Virus, McAfee
MS Works 9.0
Windows Vista® Home Premium
1-Year limited warranty
CREATIVE earphones
CD organizer
Weight: Starting at 5.78 lbs6 (2.62 kg)
Width: 14.06″ (357 mm)
Height: 0.93″ – 1.38″ (23.7 mm – 35.1 mm wedge)
Depth: 10.34″ (263 mm)

Pro:
Lighter than what I’m having now.
Better sound system than what I’m having now.
Better graphic card than what I’m having now.
Nicer design.
Bigger than what I’m having now.
Better performance than what I’m having now.
Huge screen.

Cons:
You need to hold the base down when opening the lid, as it’s light, the whole laptop would move or flip.
Power cord pulls out very easily.
Power cord very short. This is one reason why I didn’t consider Dell at the first place.
Vista suckssssssssssss! That’s why it took me ages to find a new laptop as new laptops now all come with Vista.
Quite bulky.
I don’t like built-in webcam.
Battery life is only 3 hours.
Fingerprints everywhere!! However, easily cleaned with the cloth provided.
The lid closes very LOUDLY when you are not gentle, there’s no way you can close it like normal laptop. You have to hold it and gently close it, if you didn’t pay attention and let go of your hand when it’s almost closed, it will SLAM down by itself! Imagine opening a book and then close it when you are angry. It will give you a loud “PAP!!!” Almost got heart attack for this.
(Told you I’m jinxed! Contacted Dell’s customer support already, waiting for their reply)

Need to get used to:
Vista… Sigh…
Don’t like the keyboard, just need to get used to it, no umph when typing 😛
The touchpad, need to get used to it too.
The screen has huge glare, the major problem with all glossy screens.
Slot load drive instead of the traditional press and eject.

Funny fact:
Wrong sticker!! Hahaha… It should be Intel Core 2 Duo but it has Centrino sticker on it *LOL*

It’s strange that I can’t find proper reviews on the Internet search except from Dell’s site itself. Maybe it’s still too new.

Left: (bottom to top) Free carry case, CD organizer, the case provided.
Right: The cables and the box, even the box design is so cool!

Left: The earphones provided.
Right: Even the the user manual looks like a nice notebook.

Anyway, I need to wait for Dell Support to contact me about the lid problem. Told you I’m jinxed!! Sigh… I bought 3 laptops(Toshiba, NEC, now Dell) and all sure to have problems! Will tell you about this in other post hahaha…

Pikom PC Fair 2008

Posted on April 5, 2008April 5, 2008 By sweet surrender 7 Comments on Pikom PC Fair 2008

My hair is back to its normal state after wash. Hahaha… No difference at all 😛 It’s not that short after all. I thought it will be very short after the curls are back. Will show you the photo next time 😛

I’ve been talking about getting a new laptop but till now I haven’t get any yet. Since I’m in the mood to hunt for one, decided to go to Pikom PC Fair at Permata Carpark yesterday afternoon to see what kind of offer they have.

The hall was so HOT! They said the air conditioning wasn’t on. No wonder… It’s working time and there were quite a lot of people there already. GOSH!! Imagine later in the afternoon and evening and the last day of it!

It’s almost the same every year except this year you get more female promoters, wearing the respective company’s baby tees with short skirts or tight jeans. Too bad… There’s no Canon girl to see *LOL*

I got some brochures and flyers on the laptops on offer, had studied it tru’ and I think I’ve found it. Might be going over later to grab it *LOL* I hope they accept credit or debit card without charging few percents extra. There’s no way I can bring so much cash along! Crazy! If they do… I won’t buy. It’s not worth it anymore. I’m still not that desperate.

Moly’s Place

Posted on April 4, 2008April 3, 2008 By sweet surrender No Comments on Moly’s Place

Couldn’t decide where to have lunch last Sunday and we ended up at Moly’s Place. It’s located just behind Habour View Hotel. Since we seldom blog about Malay food, so we decided to had our lunch there before catching a movie at Star Cineplex(will write about it when I’m freerer).

Each table is identified with flower’s name. We sat at the Rose table. Nothing much to rave about the food variety, they serve food like fried rice, fried noodle, fried kueh tiaw, mee jawa and so on. Just standard Malay food. The drink you see here is ice lemon tea(RM1.60).

Left: Nasi Goreng Kampong(RM4), nothing to rave about…
Right: Mee Goreng Mamak(RM4), portion very little and quite spicy. Nothing special also.

Basically that’s about it.

Earn RM10 By Signing Up With Ebay

Posted on April 3, 2008April 3, 2008 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Earn RM10 By Signing Up With Ebay

OK! Here’s another way to make money. It’s pretty easy. All you need to do is contact Alex, let him know you want to take up Ebay Light Easy Course.

It’s easy, I’ve done it myself, not under him though hehehe… It’s not scam. It’s legal, you’ll get RM10 to list your item in one of Ebay pay sites. The listing fee is only few cents. List something less than USD0.99 then you don’t have to pay so much.

You have to make sure that you have a credit or debit card with you to do so. Be sure that you register a valid Ebay account. Only those accounts which are less than 2 months old will be considered. As for me, I already have one for years but I registered another for this. I will join both account together when I’m free.

I don’t know how to use Ebay, how can I do it?!??!?
I’m sure you will say this if you had never trade in Ebay before. Don’t worry, he will guide you step by step from the beginning till the end. He will also give you advise on more effective listing. Don’t play play, he’s a Powerseller! He got all the skills to teach you how to make it big in Ebay.

It’s great for those that had never sell anything in Ebay pay sites such as ebay.co.uk or ebay.com. No harm trying and learn as you will be getting RM10 which you still earn, the listing is only few cents in USD, currency is based on which Ebay site you list.

Let me share my experience with you when going tru’ this short course. Well… I didn’t have step by step guidance that time though hahaha… I preferred to do it on my own as I have experience in listing in Ebay but not in Ebay pay sites. However, at the end, I had to get help *LOL* You’ll know why.

1. I registered my new account at ebay.com but I was automatically redirected to ebay.com.my, don’t worry about this. It doesn’t matter. Just get yourself registered.

2. Done registering. I logged out of my ebay.com.my and login to ebay.com.

3. I did my usual thing of listing my items for sale but I need to link my debit card to this new account. Got a bit of hiccups here and there when trying to do that but finally got it done. I did it at first without the guidance under the other Powerseller until I got stucked with this step that I had to contact her. It turned out that there were some system problems with Ebay… So duh~ But you don’t have to worry, if you are new or not new like me, Alex will definitely guide you.

4. I tried again few hours later, DONE! I got my item listed and I sent her my item URL. It’s not that hard. I listed my item for USD0.99. Next thing, I’m asked for my bank account so that she could bank in RM10 to me.

5. I checked my debit card account and got a shock of my life, my account was deducted 7 times, each time RM3, I thought my card got hacked but phew… It’s not… Hahaha… It’s Ebay wanted to make sure that I have an amount of money to transact in Ebay. They will give your money back to you after a week. Don’t worry.

Sign up now! You won’t loss anything. You will earn RM10 and at the same time learn about new things by just spending that few cents of listing fee. If you manage to sell your item, then you will earn even more, if you don’t, there’s no harm, after deduct from that RM10, you still earn some money couple with the knowledge from Ebay Powerseller.

What’s so good about it?
Having a Powerseller to guide you is not easy, they are very busy people and they are giving you chance now to learn from them personally, one-on-one and even pay you for it!

In fact, I’m feeling like selling internationally after trying it out. Just that I have nothing to sell yet. Hahaha… At least I have an account ready already.

Go! Go! Go contact Alex who is also eBay Education Specialist and sign up to be taught by him. Who knows you will be a Powerseller one day too. It’s a real thing OK!?! I even have a photo of him to show to you, very friendly guy, this is his photo. Hahaha… Don’t forget Kuching is so small, if he did something wrong to you, he has no way to run! Hahaha…

I really recommend you to join this course, I’m sure you will be more confident in selling in Ebay after this.
