PKNU Cultural Exchange – 4.1.2012

Posted on January 25, 2012January 25, 2012 By sweet surrender No Comments on PKNU Cultural Exchange – 4.1.2012

The third day of the program.

Left: We got our jumper today! I don’t even have my own uni’s jumper but I got one from this uni. I told my friend that I will wear this to UNISA *LOL*

Right: We have another lecture in the afternoon about Korean Wave.

Also learnt about the common Korean behaviours. For example, women cover their mouths with their hand when they laugh, no smoking in front of elder, Koreans don’t hold door for people behind them and so on and so forth.

After the class, we decided to start our very first mission of the program.

We were required to go to Nampo-dong, one of the major shopping spots in Busan.

We had to find the sheeps(behind us) and took photo of us forming the letter PCEP (Pukyong Cultural Exchange Program).

Left: After that, the sexy photo of us ;p This is not for the mission hahaha…

Rigth: One of the tourist spots in Nampo-dong. The hut with the bell that would be rang to welcome the new year and the tower is the observation tower.

Nice view!

It was so cold that day.

This spot is popular with lovers. It reminded me of how lonely I am *LOL*

Another view.

Left: Lovers’ locks, lovers wrote their messages on the locks then threw the keys away down to the mountain.

Right: We found a photo machine, we took quite a number of photos and this is the best but when we tried to send it to our e-mail, the machine hanged! So I guess our photo was there on the screen the whole night or until someone fixed the machine ;p Since we couldn’t get the photo, we decided to take the photo on the screen with our cameras. Two Koreans, two Malaysians, and one American. Guess who are the Koreans? *LOL*

We were so exhausted so decided to buy street food back to our dorm for dinner.

We got fried chicken with sauce, tteokbokki, assorted deep fried food, and assorted pork parts. All were yummy, the fried chicken was the best, tteokbokki was spicy but delicious, the fried food wasn’t that bad too but the pork dish was a bit hard for us to accept such as the taste and texture of some of the parts *LOL*

I’m now back in Adelaide, came back yesterday and spent most of my day sleeping. I’m so tired, I still am. Need to catch up on my studies as classes started last week and I had missed 3 classes! Tomorrow is public holiday in Australia, Australia Day, gonna go to watch the parade, might be my first and my last.

At night, we decided to go for a drink at the nearby drinking shop at the university. As usual, people here drink with food, there’ll always be various food and the most common one is called the pa jeon (scallion korean pancake).

They also ordered a plate of fried potato and the Korean way of eating it that was taught by our Korean buddies was to dip it into sugar! Interesting! The taste? It tasted like sweet potato.

Also not to forget, a partial group photo.

Happy Chinese New Year 2012!

Posted on January 23, 2012 By sweet surrender No Comments on Happy Chinese New Year 2012!

Gong Xi Fa Cai everyone! I miss the firecrackers, fireworks, food, people and more! This year is special to me. First time not celebrating it in Kuching instead in Seoul for the first 20 minutes of the dragon year, then the next 6 hours+ on the plane, up on sky, above many countries including my home Kuching. After that, in Singapore. Will fly out of Singapore at 11.30pm tonight.

Basically, I spent most of my 1st day of CNY in Singapore, now in my cousin’s house, spend most time sleeping, so tired as I’m not feeling well. Was sleeping almost throughout the flight last night. Gonna meet my friend at 4pm later. There no CNY feel here, Kuching is the best for CNY!

I was lucky to be offerred an earlier flight (4 hours earlier) in Busan, then got on the last flight out to Singapore from Incheon (9 hours earlier). However, no luck with flying out of Singapore early as the earlier flight is overbooked. My flight is also a full flight! ARG! Hate that! I’ve been enjoying the whole row for myself throughout the entire journey trip but not tonight. Suck… Some more I’m sick. Those sitting next to me will be surely afraid of me spreading my germ to them, I sneeze do much ;p

That’s all for now! Have a prosperous year ahead!

It Comes to An End

Posted on January 21, 2012 By sweet surrender No Comments on It Comes to An End

How time flies!?!? The 3-week program ended yesterday. So much tears involved. It’s time to do the dreaded packing after so much shopping! Also, the dreaded heavy luggage -.-“. Will surely miss the participants. We’ve been looking after each other during this whole program.

I can’t bring my kite back 🙁 It’s too big for my luggage. I spent hours trying to untangle the string but now… It won’t be going back with me. My luggage is sooooo full and heavy, I hope it won’t go overweight.

I don’t think I will be updating for another few days. My flight is tomorrow night and I need to check out of the dorm at 10am to transfer to a hotel nearby.

That’s all for now. Happy Chinese New Year everyone! I’ll be back to Adelaide on 2nd day of CNY. Gonna spend my CNY eve at Incheon Airport.

Our seconda day of class…

Started with breakfast at the dorm’s cafetaria. Love this milk! Every morning, we will have heavy breakfast. Rice and kimchi are always on the menu. You’ll get kimchin 3 meals a day.

Our first special lecture was about Korean Wave. Entertained by various music clips, drama, and movie clips. Opsss… Repeated photo ;p We were given a taste of Korean dessert, some type of sticky cake wrapped in leaf and it has red bean paste inside. Sorry, no idea what it’s called. I’m still very much blur about the things epsecially the food’s name here. There’s no English menu so it’s a problem for me to introduce the dining places I’ve been to for this 3-week stay. -.-” Expect to see photo and general name of the dishes in coming posts.

After lunch, we went for Dado (Korean Tea Ceremony).

Here we are… No idea of the name of the place hahaha…

We were taught how to bow. These are just some of us. There’s 80+ participants (Korean+Non-Korean) in this cultural exchange programme. We were splited into 2 groups. I’m in group B. This is actually group B’s dado’s session. Group A went for it few days later.

Learnt to make tea with the help of my buddy.

Left: We had fun!
Right: The two lucky girls who got the chance to wear a hanbok.

Lastly, group photo before we headed back.

Only started blogging fully with a CMS in 2006. However, whatever was on the Internet will stay on the Internet. So... It should be still somewhere on the Internet. Then again... Why do you want to dig that far?
