Swanky Sarah

Posted on May 9, 2013May 10, 2013 By sweet surrender 6 Comments on Swanky Sarah

OK… Enough of GE-13 talk, don’t want to talk about it anymore. Nothing to talk also. It’s always the same thing over and over again. Better eat!

My first food preview in Kuching after a long time. This is Swanky Sarah, the new place in town. In fact it started its operation more than a month ago but I only post it now hehehe… If you know Simplicious then that’s where Swanky Sarah is. If you don’t know, just like me, then here’s the address: 39, Pisang Road off Green Road, 93400 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. I’m hopeless with address, map, and direction hahaha… So don’t ask me extra details on the location, I circled the area 3 times to locate it hahaha… It’s somewhere opposite Furniture Expo and the church.

This post is no longer a preview ;p people open for business already, I’m late in posting. Hehehe… More than a month after the preview.

Left: Blue Lagoon and Soda Peach. Blue Lagoon tasted like blue coloured sprite provided you make use of the lemon in there while Soda Peach, I guess it’s just peach flavoured soda. No idea of the price though.

Right: Garden Salad With Dressing 1000 Island (RM8.90). The portion is rather huge. Just finishing this dish yourself will ruin the rest of your appetite becuase you are full from it hahaha… Don’t forget to share this so that you can still eat other stuffs.

Left: Grilled Calamari Ring (RM14.90), oh I so love this! Yummy!

Right: Charcoal BBQ Pork Belly (RM10), gosh! Love this too!

Left: Cincalok aka Nyonya Dip that comes with the pork belly. Heavenly to pair it with the pork belly. It’s good to have it on its own too. In fact, I prefer to have it on its own.

Right: Fabulous Chicken Wing (RM13.90), it’s BBQ-ed.

Here comes the main course, they all served with papadom, Salad & Potatoes of the Day, with choices of sauce namely Black Pepper, Mushroom or Garlic.

Charcoal BBQ Beef Sirloin (RM34.90). It’s not the usual type of steak, this is marinated and BBQ over the charcoal which explains why it’s so black. I really love it!

Charcoal BBQ Lamb Shoulder (RM27.90). I prefer my lamb to be well done, this is a bit too raw and chewy for me. It does taste good though.

Left: BBQ Half Quarter Chicken (RM39), the chicken was BBQ to perfection! MAN! Love it so much! So tender and juicy and the skin is the best part. However, I feel that it’s a bit pricey with that price -.-” Remember to share this, it’s hard to finish alone. Wait… Half? Quarter? Hmm… Might be wrongly printed in the menu. This is half chicken for sure.

Right: Charcoal BBQ Spare Ribs (RM8.90 per 100gm). This is yummy too! OH! How I wish I could enjoy this that night but we were all stuffed to the brink. So sad…

The sauce, mushroom and black pepper.

I know the photos don’t look nice, lousy composition. It’s been a long time not doing this anymore. Need to brush up the skill.

Overall, it’s a nice plce, environment was great too. No photo of it because it’s not completed yet when we were there. If you want to enjoy pork dish, then do visit Swanky Sarah.

Result is Out, What’s Next?

Posted on May 7, 2013May 7, 2013 By sweet surrender 7 Comments on Result is Out, What’s Next?

So, the result is out and so many people are angry with it. As for me, expected it from the beginning, didn’t even bother to wait for the final one. All I know I’ve done my part. Problem now is the angry people. Again, I’m not siding any side for this, it’s just my observation on how most people reacted to it. At the same, I’m very disappointed with how some people had reacted to the result. I’m not disappointed at all with the result, if you had observed the strategies used in campaigning and consider the geographical and socioeconomic situation of the state, it’s not a surprise at all to get this result.

Before I go on with the negatives, I will talk about the positive points which obviously not many people bother to look at because they are too sad or angry to think straight.

1. The turnout is extraordinary! KUDOS! It proves that you all care about the country’s well-being and you are making history for creating a high turnout. This is enough to shake their confidence. They were so afraid of all of you hence all those dramas unfold. Even though they are still governing but you had made an impact and they will definitely be extremely careful with what they are doing. From the outside, they seemed arrogant, in fact, in the inside, I can guarantee you that they are already so afraid and shitting in their pants because they are human. Even animal will be afraid too if it encounters such issue. Who wants to show their ugly/weak sides to you right? Yes! You had made an impact. Keep it up!

2. Opposition had won more seats compared to the previous election. Also, look at the number of votes, the margin between the competitors, it’s HUGE! This is something you should be happy about. It’s getting there, just hang in there. Rome was not built in a day. Remember that! There’s no such thing as instant win even though it seemed promising however at the end it didn’t turn out as you wished. I’m sure the opposition leaders will fight with all their might, so do you even have the rights to give up now?

3. The world is watching now. So you think those people are not afraid? They are so afraid that they had to resort to all sort of strategies to prove their innocence or secure the seats but why worry? The world is watching. You are not alone. Whatever you’ve been fighting for wasn’t wasted. In fact, this is just a start. It’s not easy, it’s never easy. Keep it up!

Now the negatives:

1. Again… Photoshop! Goodness you people!! For eg. Sharing photo of Obama holding Bersih t-shirt. It’s not true! The actual photo was taken in 2009 in MIT, that’s MIT’s blue t-shirt not Bersih yellow t-shirt. Another random photos in the Internet which people edited. I don’t know who did this but I’m sure it’s not the work of the official, just some immature supporter’s work. Still, by doing so, you can cause the cause that you are supporting to be targeted by people who really want to destroy you and also potential supporters will not want to support it as it doesn’t seem as clean as it claimed to be.

2. Getting all emotional, changing profile photo to black, encouraging people to wear black and taping their mouth when they go out, change the country’s flag into black and white or hold it upside down and so on just to name a few. You know… By doing so won’t do you any good. You will only cause more troubles and provide easy avenue for you-know-who to launch attack on you and also your beloved party. You are not helping but making things worst! They can say that you have plans to disrupt harmony and peace of the country and so on. Yes, you want to show your dissatisfaction but this is not the right way to do it. Instead, you must stay calm, go on with your life as usual, show them how strong and rationale you are, you are not easily defeated otherwise people will take advantage of your weaknesses and turn the sword against you. The opposition leaders know what to do with it. If you respect them, then do them a favour by not giving up and refrain from immature acts.

3. Calling Sarawakians names simply because BN is leading here. If you have not been to Sarawak before especially the rural areas, then shut your mouth up. Do you know how big Sarawak is? Some people need to be taught Geography, Sarawak land size can fit in many states from peninsular Malaysia ok?!?! The map you see mostly are not actual size, that’s why you are misled. Also, Kuching is not in Sabah, thank you very much.

You don’t know the the real situation here. Frankly, even I myself have never been deep into the rural area and I have no reason too. I don’t want to also because I don’t think I can stand living in such places. Do you know, just to go into most of the rural areas, those extremely interior ones will requires hours of driving with four-wheel drive, next need to take hours of boat ride, then hours of walking just to reach the village, and with very little development, no electricity or even proper piping or sanitary system? We have a lot here as our land is too big and the jungle is dense. Along the way, you might get attack by leeches, mosquitoes, and so on. These are the places that made up BN winning seats.

These people do not get the chance to be exposed to the outside world much and they are afraid of strangers. You know how lucky you are or not? All they know is who is the one that is helping them no matter how small. RM100 is HUGE in their eyes, they have no choice at all. How do you expect them to change when no one is there to guide them? Did PR go deep into the jungle to campaign? No! None! Nil! Zero! Kosong! They only did it in the urban areas simply because they don’t have the resources in terms of skills, manpower, money and so on. Even if they managed to go in, they will have problem convincing them because they are afraid of outsiders unless someone they trusted bring them in. Again, PR doesn’t have such resource. What’s more for only showing up near election. As for the BN, the representatives of those areas will visit them from time to time the whole year through, that’s why they trusted him/her. At the end of the day, they will vote for BN for sure. It’s not an easy task for PR to do that, maintenance is very important and it takes ages!

Narrow minded people started to call us names but they did not see the big picture at all. Do you know that PR had won more seats in Sarawak this time around especially in the urban areas than it was. It’s an improvement already. Those other areas, they still need time. Furthermore, me and you, we are Malaysians, why do the condemning among ourselves? Did we Sarawakians call you names when some of the states in West Malaysia had fallen into another party’s hand? If you are oh-so-smart, then why don’t you go into the interior to educate and help them? Remember, not just staying there for short term but long term as you need to gain their trust. How many of you dare to do so? You would rather sleep in your air-con room, drive your car, have your Starbucks, play with your iPhone/iPad and so on than going into the jungle. Just talking or hiding behind your computer making degrading statements will not improve anything.

4. Boycotting. YO! Malaysians sure like to boycott but after awhile they forgot what/why they boycotted something for and life is back to how it used to. Might as well resign from the companies belong to you-know-who and their cronies to show your dissatisfaction. Don’t do it halfheartedly or quarterheartedly (I know… No such word), might as well do it wholeheartedly. Oh! Can you sense my sarcasm?

5. Playing up the racial sentiment, blaming certain race for their losses and so on. *shake head* not relevant anymore! Out of date already. You are just going to dig your own grave with that.

6. Calling the candidates names or cursing them. Talking about democracy and freedom? They are also human, they do no deserved to be condemned like that. Even though you don’t like the party they represented, you have to know that they too are like you and I, have father and mother, and make mistakes too. Don’t tell me you never make any mistake. Don’t talk like as if you’re a saint. What’s more, it’s an election, of course there are more than one parties to vie for the spot. Else, why is there an election in the first place?

Too many, too many silly things to share but I better stop here.

Remember, you had made your voice heard, don’t be so naive to think that with just one election you can vote the governing party out. It will take decades! You have no rights to give up when the leaders are not giving up whether it’s the governing one or otherwise. Also, we are all Malaysians, we had showed them that we are able to stand united as one, we must respect each other no matter what. Don’t simply mess with us especially we are now connected to the world. This is just the beginning, not the end. If you really want to help the country then stop being so naive and narrow minded as you will only be the laughing stock of the world because the whole world is watching.

Indelible Ink for GE-13

Posted on May 5, 2013May 5, 2013 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Indelible Ink for GE-13

So I had voted. Didn’t go there early in the morning, took my time as my voting place is just across the road. Many people voted in the morning, I went there after lunch with my family. Fast and easy, in and out in couple of minutes, no queue at all. Everything was peaceful at my place.

Left: As we all know, this time indelible ink is used. So I got my finger inked. I did not wipe it off after getting ink, I just let it be. Some friend said that they were provided with tissue paper to ensure the ink won’t stain their ballot paper or any other places. I don’t remember how many layer they applied. Anyway it did not dry even after I got home. The period of time the ink stayed on my finger in its original form for roughly 15 minutes or less.

Right: My mom took some water for us to wash the excess off once we got home. You can see the difference. The water turned blue too.

As for dad, he did wiped his finger right after getting out of the polling station. When reached home, he started off with thinner but it didn’t budge. No effect. Then he took out Soft99 luster wax hahaha… He managed to get the ink off, rubbed quite hard too. Then washed with water. This is the final result. Not that clean especially in between the edges but still can proof that you had voted.

Left: As for me, after using the water, I tried the wax too. Much cleaner now. Can be cleaner but I decided I shouldn’t overdo it because it will do no good to my cuticle. Rather painful want to clean it thoroughly. I just want to get the excess off so that I won’t stain any of my thing.

Right: Next, I washed it with soap. The foam was blue, I kept washing until no more blue foam formed. This is the final result.

So? My verdict.

It’s indelible for my case. Some friends are complaining that they could clean it without any effort. In actual fact, there will still be residue which you might not be able to see with naked eyes unless using magnifying glass (according to the department) which was also provided to the officers to check your finger to ensure you did not vote twice. Also, if you did wipe it off immediately after inking, it can be cleaned much easily but still there will still be traces leaving behind. How long it stays on your finger will also determine whether how much you can get it off. For my case, I have no way to get rid of it anymore, as it had already seep inside my skin at the time of composing this post.

I don’t know… Maybe we had put expectations which are too high to it and ended up it did not live up to our expectations, therefore there’s so much complains. Fade, it will surely fade, just a matter of how much fading. Clean, yes you can but how clean can it be? Maybe those who managed to get it spotlessly removed should double check with the magnifying glass.

One more thing, looking at the rate of how it fades, it won’t last 7 days but maybe can last 1-2 days.

Anyway, we’ve voted. Let’s see how it will turn out. At the end of the day, life still goes on.

How Amusing is the GE13 Campaign?

Posted on May 4, 2013May 6, 2013 By sweet surrender 4 Comments on How Amusing is the GE13 Campaign?

Tomorrow will be the day. The day Malaysians have been waiting for to see whether there will be a change or not. I dare say, this time around, competition is rather stiff and it’s very extremely dirty too for all parties. I’m not siding anyone here, I’m just standing at the observer point of views watching all the dramas. I’m just gonna share some of the campaigning strategies especially in the social media of all sides which I found rather amusing and show how immature, stupid, and desperate they are doesn’t matter it’s the supporters or the campaign workers whether it’s from the official or otherwise.

1. Making use of children crying photos to prove that someone is evil.
Hello?!!? They are children, they can cry just because of anything! Yes, I agree that children are able to sense who are good or evil but which child does not cry? It’s just a matter of moment, luck. All parties are guilty in using this as a way to tell people who is good or bad. So, if your child cried while you hold him/her, then does this mean you are evil? It’s as simple as that. This is stupid and immature way to help your favourtie political party. It’s just rubbish and doesn’t mean a thing at all. Com’on la… In fact, this kind of photos surfaced in the social media for a long time already, just that there’s more versions coming out now.

2. Photoshopping.
With technology, it’s easy to do. It’s just a matter of doing it professionally or not. Again, all are guilty in this. Photoshopping the audience to make it looks like many people attended the function and so on. Just yesterday, I saw a photo which they relate how one side flying in foreigners to vote tomorrow. I’m not going to comment on that but the photo that they asked people to send it to the respective authorities overseas is editted! People?!?! If you want to make your case, do it properly la… Using a picture which can be randomly found on the Internet and photoshopped the logos and flags in and asked everyone to send it to the authority is only asking for trouble ok? I’ve seen that photo before circulating in the Internet years ago! It has got nothing to do at all with GE13.

3. Using old photos.
Again, technology, just scanned it off from old newspapers or save any photo you found on the Internet and tell people that this thing happened recently blah blah blah when it’s not even related to whatever that is happening now. For example, photos of people’s ICs found on the road by a police. As you know, statements saying that one party is giving foreigners ICs to come in to vote tomorrow is a hit now and people are using that unrelated photos by saying that it’s proof that these ICs belongs to the foreigners and found by police and so on. Excuse me? Where did you get the photo? The photo is actually a photo taken in 2011 regarding robbery cases where the robbers had thrown a bagful of ICs that they had stolen from people while the police chased after them. Nothing to do with foreigners getting ICs to vote. Doh~

4. Blaming or badmouthing game.
You blame/badmouth me, I blame/badmouth you. Very immature. How can I trust people who only know how to blame/badmouth to rule the country? Run out of idea to pitch your ability is it? Or showing off your ability in blaming/badmouth? No class at all.

5. If you get AES summon, don’t complain.
Where’s the logic? You got it because you had violated the traffic law. Yes, there’s a lot of flaws in the implementation of AES but there is no point to abolish it, just correct the wrong will do. We all know Malaysians are devils when on the road, we like to do things against the traffic laws, very common, talk on the phone while driving, speeding, ignore the traffic light, drink driving, not fasten on seatbelts and so on. Don’t tell me you never do any of that. We all are guilty in a way. So, if you violate the law, then you get summon, why complain? Why blame the system? Don’t do it at the first place then you won’t get any fine. You thought the authority so free to pick random common people like us, take our car photo and so on just to send it to us to fine us for no reason? We are the one who gave them the reason to fine us, who else? Even a child know against the law is wrong.

6. Corruption
We all hate this but do you know most of you actually practicing it also? Bribing the cops when you are stopped for violating the rules. Very common right? Don’t tell me because this is the trend, everyone is doing it. No excsue for that. You are guilty as charged! I have friends who drink and drive, talk on the phone while driving, speeding, and so on and later give kopi-o money to get out of it yet these people are also the people who kept talking about being clean, against corruption and so on. Hello? If you are wrong, then just take the summon and pay, not bribing the police to let you go. People like you have no rights in saying others are corrupt. Doesn’t matter it’s big or small. At the end of the day, it’s still bribery. No excuse. This thing happens when there’s supply, then there’s demand or the other way. Whatever it is, do you even have the right to ask people to stop involving in such graft when you yourself is doing it? *shake head* Walk the talk please… It starts with you no matter how small it is.

7. I vote for this but how can I know my vote is secret?
Excuse me? You already said that you vote for who publicly, online or offline. It’s no longer a secret. What are you talking about? *scratching my head* If you really want your vote to be a secret, then don’t go around telling people who you vote. If you are afraid that certain quarters know that who you vote and use it to penalize you, then shut up and keep it to yourself. People aren’t that free to find who vote for who, there’s millions of votes, how to track? It will take years! You yourself not keeping the secret is already making it easy for those people who really want to “attack” you to target you, they don’t even have to do all the hard work. You make it easy for them. Blame who?

8. Come back to vote ok? Let’s change the government.
Don’t be so naive, not all people come back to vote for change. of course, coming back to vote is the responsibility of all the citizens but if your intention is wanting them to come back to vote for what/who you are supporting then this is not a noble one. Everyone has their own choice, they are free to give their vote to anyone. The problem now is that when you found out the person comes back not meant to vote for your preference, your face and attitude started to change or even tell them that they better don’t come back. Is this right? Of course not but so many people are doing this. Talking about democracy and freedom?

9. Blaming or condemning the celebrities because they support one party over the other.
Again, freedom and democracy. They have their own choice like you and I. You have no rights to condemn them for their choice even if they had gotten benefits from certain people. Quite a number of celebrities were bullied by such people because of their choices, is this right to do? Very immature. You said that they must be the role model and so on but they are also human like you and I. By condemning or boycotting them because they do not have the same stand as you is just showing that you are no better too. Of course, it’s your freedom to do so but you have to do it the right way, not by bullying them by calling them names and hurling bad languages at them. Remember, by pointing one finger to people, the other fingers are pointing back to you. Always like to harp about freedom but I don’t see that you respect others’ freedom.

10. You work for this party, you sure vote for this.
Is there such a law? Again, a person vote is secret. He or she doesn’t need to reveal her choice to you and you have to respect that. You have no rights to force it out from a person. If you do, what’s the difference with you and those people? Also, you are going against the law.

11. Cyber troopers
Oh yes! Thanks to the advancement of technology. With the wide use of social media network now, all of them need to engage cyber troopers for help to make comments, post something or write articles on these networks to influece the people. Problem is that, these people usually are paid/volunteer to do so but do not know the boundary of what the do’s and dont’s of posting something on the Internet which had caused distrubance or unrest. Sometimes making statements that slap their own face too. It’s pretty amusing when the latter happened.

12. Copyright infringement
Need to say more? Using others’ work without permission. One party editted a photo of a person where the bride’s face was replaced with some other person’s face and erected a billboard with that photo. Then, another party using internationally reknown cartoon character on its billboard, I’m sure they did not get permission at all. So? How do I respect any of them? They themselves are engaging in unlawful acts.

13. There’s more but too lazy and I’m so tired already, this one last one, campaigning before the actual campaigning period.
Just because one party use the dirty tactic of campaigning early, the other party also followed suit. In my opinion, if you are really clean, you shouldn’t do that. What you did can affect one’s opinion on you as you’ve been harping about clean, clean, clean but you didn’t walk the talk. Do you deserve my respect? You should stand tall and walk the talk, show people that you have your dignity but what you’re doing made me think that you are no better than the other.

That’s all about GE-13 campaigning bitching from me. If want to talk about every single one, I don’t know when will this post ends. Please exercise your rights tomorrow. Be wise. No matter who wins, UBAH or TAK UBAH, life still goes on. You still need to eat, sleep, work, play, fart, shit and so on.

For those who can’t vote, go get yourself register (anytime during post office opening hours) and stop complaining about not being able to vote the next time around, 5 years for you to get yourself registered, it’s not an excuse for not registering.

For those who registered late and not able to vote this time around, stop complaining also, it’s your own fault for registering late when the registration is open all year round, what you’ve been doing the previous years? Just wait for the next one.

Stay safe and peaceful everyone.

Chocolate Bean

Posted on May 1, 2013May 1, 2013 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Chocolate Bean

Back to Adelaide’s food post. Few more to go before I’m done with it. It’s been 2 months coming back and I’m still struggling to settle down.

Anyway, back to the main topic. I was told about Chocolate Bean but couldn’t locate it until one of my friends brought me there. It’s so near to where I lived yet I couldn’t find it because it’s in the small lane. I tried locating it via Google but I’m a map and direction idiot ;p. It’s less than 5 minutes walk from my place only *LOL*

Very cosy place. Love it! It’s located at 18 Union Street East End, Adelaide.

Left: I don’t quite remember what’s this. Extremely chocolatey! It’s a bit too much for me but we’re sharing so it’s fine. It should be chocolate mud cake.
Right: Lemon cheesecake. This is nice too. Just enough to even out the chocolate mud cake sweetness.

Left: White Chocolate Tea (AUD4.50), heavenly! I LOVE IT!!! Too bad… No more chance to go anymore as I only discovered it 2 weeks before I left. 🙁 I don’t know how to explain the taste but it’s not as heavy as chocolate and not as light as tea. Not too sweet too. Tasted slightly like milk tea but not milk tea. So hard to explain, you have to try it yourself to know.

Right: Dark Chocolate Tea (AUD4.50), not bad too but still prefer White Chocolate Tea.

I went there 3 times in 2 weeks! My final 2 weeks in Adelaide. Couldn’t get enough of it.

Highly recommended!
