No other place like Kuching.

Gone… All Gone… Sigh…

Posted on July 21, 2009July 22, 2009 By sweet surrender 10 Comments on Gone… All Gone… Sigh…

For those of you that had left Kuching for too long, I’m sure you will be shocked to see this.

By the way, do you see the HUGE building with pointed roof in the photo? That’s the new parliament DUN (BUAHAHA :p Sorry… Thanks for the correction, I didn’t realize that I actually type the wrong name).

Anyway, passed by Gambier Street today. These scenes greeted me, sigh… So sad… All the historical buildings are now gone to make way for the so called development, YUCK!

Those buildings should be preserved, they can be converted into some very high class places and tourist spots with the architecture and historical values. Sadly, some people just don’t get it and demolish everything for the sake of development. YUCK!

Those demolished buildings could be converted into a museum or craft bazaar or dining place or lodging place or some offices related to tourism industry and so on since it’s located at the city centre. All they need to do is clean up the place, restore them and so on. The buildings are very tough and strong, it’s not a hazard to safety at all. I tell you, even tougher than the new buildings and houses that are built nowadays.

No matter what was done previously by many people has no impact at all to stop the so called development. Lots of campaigns and awareness were made but sigh… Some people just don’t care, all they care is money filling their pocket.

Sigh… So sad. when I saw it, my eyes were filled with tears. Too bad I don’t have the photos of previous Gambier Street to show you. The old Gambier Street is gone forever. An esplanade will replace it. Sigh…

Those precious buildings that once made Kuching very unique are now gone. Not only that, those buildings are part of our(including our parents’ and grandparents’) childhood and memories.

One word, sigh…

Sunday Market

Posted on July 18, 2009July 19, 2009 By sweet surrender 6 Comments on Sunday Market

Sunday Market is not stranger many people here and this one place tourists will like to visit as you can see many handicrafts, delicacies, vegetables, fruits, meat, seafood and many more and also all the races in Sarawak doing business side by side harmoniously.

Some of the the traders come all the way down from Lundu, Serian and so on to trade there for the weekend. They will stay overnight at the market by sleeping in their lorry or van or make shift bed at the stall.

This is one place I would recommend you to visit but don’t ask me to bring you there if I happened to be your “tourist guide” *LOL*

I don’t like to go there because I hate crowds and I had some sort of phobia going there due to something that happened to me there few years back. Not only that it’s so damn hard to find parking!

The last time I was there was last year. After so many years of not going there, finally I went with my parents last year after one of my classes because I wasn’t driving and I didn’t want to trouble my dad to send me home and then go to Sunday Market again. So I tagged along and took some photos which I forgot all about it until today.

Then again, I don’t want to go there if possible!

This market starts on every Saturday evening and ends its operation on Sunday noon. My parents go there every Saturday evening to do some marketing but according to them, things at Sunday Market now aren’t as cheap as it used to anymore, there are other places that sell cheaper. Still, they never miss paying the market a visit to buy part of our food supplies for the next 5-6 days which are cheaper, those expensive ones, they would buy it at some other place on Sunday morning such as from Petanak and Stutong Market.

Gone Are the Trees

Posted on July 5, 2009July 5, 2009 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Gone Are the Trees

I’m supposed to do update on yesterday’s wedding but so tired and there are tonnes of photos to filter. Many turned out so bad.

Anyway, I’m sure many of you already know that the trees leading to the airport opposite Premier 101 are gone weeks ago. I managed to take a picture yesterday morning when I was on my way to the wedding. You can now see Four Points from afar. Not in the photo for sure ;p The cars ahead of me blocked the view.

For those who are not local wondering where you should be looking, just look straight ahead. That’s where we used to see trees, lots of trees. Now… It’s so empty, it felt like a foreign place to me.

Just for you information, the trees were removed because of road extension and also to make new flyover. You can read more here…

Breeze Launch Party @ Victoria Arms

Posted on May 2, 2009May 2, 2009 By sweet surrender 7 Comments on Breeze Launch Party @ Victoria Arms

Was lucky to be in the list of the selected bloggers to join Breeze Launch Party. I was supposed to be there early but I ended up late due to massive jam when we sent our bro to tuition. Allen and Robin had to wait for me. Thanks for waiting for me, felt so bad that I was late.

Anyway, I don’t have any photos of other bloggers or even my own photos in my camera. So if you are asking for your photos from me, I have to tell you that I don’t have any. The photos you see here are all that I have.

On the way in… Then there’s food but I didn’t consider these as dinner… Some of the food that I came across, I only had 4 types only, one each, but not all you see here I had eaten, some were Robin’s. It’s more like finger food rather than dinner.

The place was packed! The photo here was taken before the start of the event. As usual, Gary as the MC.

Some dance performances of the night.

Here are some of the models that I managed to take their photos. It’s so hard to find a decent location for the photos and the lighting wasn’t helpful at all. All the photos in this post went tru’ lots of editing.

Some familiar faces in there. You can find them in most fashion shows in Kuching. Who do you think can make it to the end? I really don’t know *LOL* Showing here are only some of the contestants, not all.

The… Here goes the photos of the guys but not all of them, can’t take much good photos.

As for the guys, hmmm… I only see two that has the potential ;p The two guys in the last two photos. Ben and Richard(I hope I got this guy’s name correct).

After that, at 9.30pm the party was opened to public and it’s getting more and more packed.

Hmm… When was the launch? *LOL* I left before 11.30pm, can’t stand it anymore.

Thanks for the invitation.

For your information, this model search competition runs from April until August, and winners will graced the September cover of Breeze Magazine. I heard that you can vote for your favourites by then. Not sure how though. More details will be announced soon, I think… If you want to get the latest details of this contest, do join the facebook group.

Passing of Sarawak Chief Minister’s Wife, Laila Taib

Posted on April 29, 2009April 29, 2009 By sweet surrender 5 Comments on Passing of Sarawak Chief Minister’s Wife, Laila Taib

I’m sure many of you heard of the passing Sarawak Chief Minister’s wife already.

In fact there’s been rumours spreading around since early this year saying that Puan Sri Laila Taib, wife of Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, is very sick and dying. From what I heard in coffee shop talks was she was having final stage of lung cancer.

Anyway, she passed away at the age of 68 at 3.45pm at their residence in Demak Jaya.

What else we can say? Nothing but our condolences to the family.

The burial would be held at the Demak Muslim cemetery tomorrow morning.

Blogging since 2002. Anything before 2006 is no longer available. It is no longer on this server. Back then, I built my own blog and updated it using HTML. No database or anything. Only started blogging fully with a CMS in 2006. However, whatever was on the Internet will stay on the Internet. So... It should be still somewhere on the Internet. Then again... Why do you want to dig that far?
