The Morning Of The Custom Wedding – 09.07.06

Posted on July 9, 2006 By sweet surrender 13 Comments on The Morning Of The Custom Wedding – 09.07.06

WARNING!!! I’M SORRY FOR DIAL-UP USERS , THIS POST IS REALLY BIG!!! THE TOTAL SIZE OF IT IS ALMOST 1MB… VIEW AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Goshhh… sorry for the slow update. I’m so the very very busy with work and couldn’t find much time to edit and filter the photos. Works are piling up now… πŸ™ Anyway…. this is what I’ve promise to show you πŸ™‚ By the way, the whole process didn’t follow much of the actual traditional wedding of the Chinese. Many practices were skipped because these are just not them. Those maintained are:
– Must leave the bride’s house before the said time
– Tea ceremony
– Paying respect to the ancestors
– Changing of clothes before going back to the bride’s house
– No reversing of car when the newly-weds are in there
– Play tricks on the groom. This only applied to people of some Chinese dialects, not all will have this. Ann added this in for the fun of it and not because of the customs/traditions.
– Red clothes on top of the main door. You can see these in many Chinese houses when there are events like engagement, moving to new house, getting married etc in the household. If you see white, then it means someone passed away. However, you won’t be seeing the red cloth for my family LOL… we don’t practice this at all.

Woke at up at 3am to prepare… Noticed Ann’s hair? She’s supposed to be using white orchids but it dried up because it’s not put into the water. So we spent about 15 minutes to look for subsitute flowers from her garden but none so resorted to the fake flowers in her house and lucky she has lots of them at home.

At about 5am++, we’re done and we prepared the stuffs that the tricks needed to be played on Jee.

Jee’s and his friends arrived at about 6am… way too early as scheduled and tried to fooled us into starting the tricks early by saying that the time table had changed. It’s should be 6am not 6.15am as mentioned earlier. I don’t have much of the tricks photos because Jimmy was in charged of the video and no one from our side have any camera to capture it. The one you are seeing here was the kissing game. We asked the guys to stand in a row and then pass the oil blotter with their lips, if it fell, it will need to be restart. 20 seconds for 2 rounds.

Next, we had it at the staircase with Jee and his bestman doing yoga for 30 seconds but because we weren’t sure how to explain the second yoga move to them, while we were discussing a bit, they took the chance to rammed into our barrier and rush upstair to Ann’s room lucky the door was locked. FOUL PLAY!!! I tried to stopped them and hold them. While doing that, I stepped on my own dress while doing that agreesive move, luckily the dress wasn’t torn or anything, it’s very tough! Hahhaha…

Before going into the room, Jee needed to decode the lips marks on the paper to determine which one was Ann’s. 3 chances given and he got it all WRONG!!! So as a punishment, they need to finish the packet of wheatgerm. It’s very dry and powedery. They tore it opened and GULP down the whole packet and rush into the nearby washroom to drink water from the pipe. We were supposed to give them a glass of plain water each after they swallowed it but they were so impatient. After this, he should be allowed to see his bride but because they rammed the barrier before this, so we had another backup!!

This time, it’s decoding the hair on the paper. Find Ann’s hair, 2 chances given and FAILED again! So… we asked Jee to do another yoga move for 20 seconds since he skipped it earlier. So… Finally… He’s in!

Off… we went to Jee’s house. While waiting for the tea ceremony, we were served with some traditional cakes. When it started, Jee’s mom pay respect to the ancestor with joss sticks[I’m sorry… I really hate this part!!! It make my nose itch and I was sneezing the whole afternoon when got back home :-(, told u my nose is sensitive to smoke! A big NO for my wedding! Frankly… I don’t fancy tea ceremony too, I don’t want this on my wedding too!]

After that, Ann went to change to a second gown and then we went to her house for tea ceremony. Goosssh…. the "paparazzies"!!! When we were on the road, when almost reached the traffic light, it’s still quite early in the morning, so not much cars on the road, the "paparazzies" reached there first and we were still behind, they reversed all the way to keep at the same pace as us to take pictures! People in other cars were looking at us with very funny looks but they had fun watching (I guess..) all these happened. Cameras and videos from the left and from behind too! WOW… Potential paparazzies, don’t you think?

Poor… Kelisa, the car the paparazzies were in… such a small car with 4 big big guys! Looking at them, the car slanted to one side because their sitting position were not right and all the weight concentrate on one side of it. It was hilarious! HAHAH… Could even see the tyres were kinda flat due the weight in the car πŸ˜› It’s so heavy!

The final stop… Ann’s house. However, we coulnd’t go in becuase Ann’s family were out for breakfast and didn’t expect us to go back so early. We waited in the car. Then Ann realised that we forgot the red umbrella πŸ˜› LOL… it was supposed to be used for when the bride was going to the groom’s house. It’s believed that ti can’t protect the bride from being attack by negative energy or bad spirits.

Suddenly, again… Ann remembered the tea pot! It’s left at Jee’s house… Jee called home and wanted to ask his uncle to send over but was told it’s already passed to our friends. Hahahaha… What a chaos!

I got to know that the bridal car shouldn’t be reversing with the newly-weds in there. No wonder everytime I saw the car went out head first even though it went in head first. When the newly-weds came out of the car, the driver would repark the car so that it will not reverse when wanted to go out.

Finally they’re back and we waited again becuase many relatives weren’t there yet. So we just sat down and catching up with each other. When it started, Ann and Jee paid respects to her ancestors by bowing three times to the photos. Next the tea ceremony started.

After that , it was supposed to be lunch time. Time was passing really slow… we thought that it’s already 11am++ but it’s only 10am++… WOW… so the caterer wasn’t there yet, again… We killed our time by fooling around. After lunch, we called it a day and went home to rest for the dinner at Hilton. Ann and Jee went to Hilton to catch some sleeps before going off to Alvin’s for evening makeup at 4pm. Will blog about it when I’m freerer…. GOSSHHH… about 300+ photos to sort out…*Faint*

Posted on July 8, 2006 By sweet surrender No Comments on Night Before…

I’m not sure when I’ll be updating the rest. I’ll blog about it in parts. As you can see from the title. We(Lee Ling, Audrey and I) reached Ann’s house at about 9.30pm. Hui Yee couldn’t make it because she was sick and need to get enogh rest to go tru’ tomorrow.
Left: We helped her to change her bedsheet before discussing tomorrow tricks on the guys.

Right: The corsages.

Left: The balloon from Pinky to Ann.
Right: Ann’s hand bouquet.
We called it a night at about 11 something. However, all of us couldn’t sleep well… it’s so hot even with the air-con was on with 16 degree Celcius, Ann and I slept in one bed… it’s the newly-wed’s bed and with the new sheets!!! I "opened ceremony" first hahahaha… I didn’t sleep much, I’m more like napping than sleeping. More to come… have to sleep now, tired… Next post will be about the DAY.

This post is dedicated to these 4 events, these 7 people. πŸ™‚ Oh… by the way… there are heaps of photos this month!! Wait till next week… there will be more!! More to come… more to come… wait for the surprise!

< Ann & Jee on their marriage on the 06.06.06 >

She had passed me the invitation card to her reception yesterday. They desinged their card themselves. It’s not the usual card with envelope or even in those typical chinese wedding colour. See for yourself.

< Lee’s moving to his new house >

< Mei & George on their marriage on the 20.06.2006 >

< Alysha & Paul on their marriage on the 20.06.2006 >

20062006 – 2 Knots Tied

WARNING: Tonnes and tonnes of photos!!!
Here we were after lunch! Foochow Association.

Ok… before we go further, today is Mei’s and Alysha’s officially upgrade their status from Miss to Mrs. I didn’t attend Mei’s registration ceremony at Hakka Association in the morning as I’m not invited. So I don’t have any pictures of her ceremony. In the afternoon, it’s Alysha’s at Foochow Association. We were there before 2pm because it’s supposed to start at 2.30pm but when we were all there, the people there told us the officer would be late, and can only have the signing ceremony at 4.30pm. So we decided to go to Lake Park to take photos of the 2 couples since we had like 2 hours to spare. I’m there to be the photographer. Hahahah… lousy photo taking skills.

Below are all the photos taken by me…

Alysha’s flowers.

My hand & your hand.

Let’s go!

Sweet!

Left: Marry me!

Right: It’s not a bird!! It’s SUPERME!

Left: Alysha!! You are heavy!

Right: Smile πŸ™‚

Left: Staircase of love.
Right: … Except this one, it’s taken by Alysha.

Left: Marry me!!! Please! Else I’m going to jump into the lake!!!
Right: Careful…. careful… don’t get prick by the thorns.

After the photo taking session, we went for a drink at
Jade Pot Tea at Jalan Song Thian Cheok(not sure how to spell). I had forgotten the price of the drinks. From left to right, peppermint milky tea, jasmine green tea, blueberry milky tea and Coke(if not mistaken).

We went back to Foochow Assocation at 4 something. Then after some waiting, finally the ceremony started. This was much faster than Ann’s and much more "casual" . After understanding the rules and regulations, both signed…

Then, the witnesses signed. Last but not least… they exchanged rings.

After that, a family photo. This is blur, I didn’t use flash and my hands were shaky. Aiksss… now then I realised I had forgotten to prepare a photo of me with the newly-wed.

That’s it!
Congrates to the four of you!

WOW… it’s really a month of celebrations!!

Lee’s House Warming Party

Posted on June 17, 2006 By sweet surrender No Comments on Lee’s House Warming Party

We were invited to Lee’s house warming party. He had moved to his new house during Gawai holiday. There were about 80+ or more people coming. We should be there by 6pm because we’re afraid that there would be no place to get proper parking spots but because of some unavoided circumstances, we only reached there at 6.30pm. We had also chipped in to buy a gift for him. Earlier on, there was a storm all over Kuching. Lucky it stopped after a while and that’s when you see this! Rainbow!!! His house(left) is just right under it.

Right: The house entrance. Two entrances actually, it’s two houses(semi-d) in one compound.

While waiting for the buffet dinner to start, we took a photo with the host, Lee(orange t-shirt).

Left: One of the corners of the house.
Right: Some of the gifts given by the invited guests.

Left: Satay and chicken wings! The satays were in quite big sticks compare to to those usually we had outside. Not sure where they bought it.
Right: "Tang Yuan"(I forgot what it’s call in English ;p) for everyone while waiting for the dinner to start.

The buffet table.

The food: Watermelons, honeydews, mixed veggies, mango fish, roasted duck, nestum prawn(it’s a hit among all) etc. The caterer was from Dong Guan Restaurant.

Dinner started at around 7.30pm rather than 6.30pm. You know… need to say more… M’sians time. After dinner, we chatted until 9.30pm and called it a night. Poor Lee… we left and he had no more friends staying back to accompany him πŸ˜› Must be busy talking with the sky or the food after we left. Thanks for the invitation πŸ™‚

P/S: We weren’t sure what’s in the present. LOL… because Audrey was the in charge of it and we just pay her the money. I heard that it’s a set of containers and a decorative hanger but not sure how they looked like hahaha…
