Langkawi (11 – 14 May 2014) – Part 6

Posted on September 13, 2014September 13, 2014 By sweet surrender No Comments on Langkawi (11 – 14 May 2014) – Part 6

After Makam Mahsuri, we headed to Burn Rice at Padang Matsirat.

You will first go through lots of shops selling tidbits and souvenirs. Then you will reach the field where it was burnt. No admission fee at all.

I’m expecting black field but oppsss… It’s green! *LOL* That’s because it was burnt long time ago way back in 1800’s, of course it’s green now. Was expecting nothing can be grown there and it’s just a field of black soil. I’m so silly! Learn more here…

The day was extremely hot! Our next destination was the Seven Wells Waterfall.

Goodness! It was so hot! When we found out we had to go up the staircase to reach it, we’re a bit reluctant but still went up at the end. No stamina really… We asked everyone who came down how far more to go but they all told us we’re almost there before we even reached the sign saying we had 367 steps to go! Man… Felt like old lady. Finally when we’re up, we’re greeted with this! Felt cheated *LOL* The waterfall WAs further up but we couldn’t do it anymore, way too hot. So we just stopped here to rest. The guys went to play with the water. It’s just too hot to play even though the water was quite cold. I even had my bikini on already but no mood to play anymore with such hot sun.

Why seven wells? There are seven natural pools formed at different levels by water stream that flows down the second highest mountain of Langkawi, Mount Mat Cincang.

Going down is another misery -.-”

After that, we went to a beach. It was a scenic drive to Tanjung Rhu.

Too hot again! Quickly took some shoots and we hid under the shade. Too much sun, it’s blinding too!

It was quite late already and we had our late lunch at Restoran Seafood Anis which is located next to Tanjung Rhu Resort.

I don’t remember what we ordered, too long ago. No idea of the price too. The food was just so-so for me hence I don’t bother remembering.

It was a tiring day! We headed back to town to continue to shop and to freshen up before heading out to for late dinner on our final night here.

Of all the food places we went in Langkawi, this is my favourite place, Saloma Nasi Lemak Panas & Daun Pisang located at Eagle Square.

Basically you get to choose the curry or rendang dish to go with your nasi lemak and all served on banana leaf. We had cuttle fish and beef rendang. We also ordered a plate of roasted chicken. Meat was tender. It was satisfying and delicious! The price was reasonable too. If only we discovered this place earlier. The best meal we had. Also our last dinner in Langkawi.

Before we headed to the airport in the morning, we went for breakfast at the stalls opposite HIG Hotel Langkawi.

Ordered small plate of fried chicken. Don’t remember the taste ;p

Left: Arab bread with squid curry, lovely! Very nice!
Right: Murtabak with squid curry too. Really like the curry a lot.

No idea how much was the whole dish but it’s quite cheap, cheaper than Kuching for sure.

After breakfast, to the airport we went. Goodbye Langkawi!

Finally I’m done posting this trip. Took me 4 months for a 4 days 3 nights trip. *GULP* What will happen with my 6 days 5 nights trip in November? How long will it take for me to finish it?

Langkawi (11 – 14 May 2014) – Part 5

Posted on August 30, 2014 By sweet surrender 1 Comment on Langkawi (11 – 14 May 2014) – Part 5

WOW! Still quite a number of Langkawi posts pending. Some of you might have known that I will be heading to Perth this November, told you online purchase is dangerous! HAHAH! I bought the ticket by impulse! *gulp* I shop more online than in physical shops -.-” Now I have to worry about the accommodation cost, it’s always the biggest cost when you travel unless I manage to find another travel mate then that will surely save a lot. *fingers crossed*

Goodness! I must get all these Langkawi posts up before I embark on the next trip else sure cannot finish the post before the next trip. Drag too long, such record! More than 3 months and not complete yet. This is just day 3! We managed to explore more tourist spots on this day.

First stop! Breakfast is a must to start the journey. What’s more you have 3 big dudes in this trip, they have to be fed real well or else they couldn’t protect us hahaha…

The whole breakfast only cost us less than RM3/person! The nasi lemak was really tasty! The roti canai too. Not bad at all. I don’t remember the name of the place hehehe… It’s not that far from the place we stay actually. Generally, food in Langkawi is cheap and quite nice, especially the Malay food. Didn’t get the chance to try any Chinese food though.

Our first destination was Makam Mahsuri but along the way we saw many shops selling gamat aka sea cucumber products, so we stopped at one of them and bought some stuff back to be given as gift. Langkawi is known for this produce and they are selling it real cheap. It’s known to be very effective in curing many things. I bought the ointment only for own use and gift for relatives.

Finally found Makam Mahsuri (Mahsuri’s Tomb). There’s a story behind it on why it’s so significant to people in Langkawi. Long story cut short, you can check the details here. You can find many artifacts and legends of Mahsuri in the museum. No photography allowed in there though. Entrance is not free but cheaper for Malaysians. I don’t remember how much. RM5 I think…

The paddy field, my first time seeing such view.

Pretty ladies, the generation of Mahsuri but they now resides in Phuket, Thailand.

The tomb of Mahsuri. Some said she’s buried here, some said the body was never recovered after being thrown off the cliff.

Even the musical performers are very pretty. I guess prettiness is in their genes already else how you get Mahsuri, such beautiful lady. The well is said to be what made Mahsuri beautiful. She used the water daily from this well and it is believed that it has curative properties too.

These are some of the traditional houses that were built to showcase Langkawi architectures.

It was already near noon and the sun was really unforgiving. It’s hot in Langkawi! Next stop, we’re going to see the Seven Wells Waterfall.

A quick one here… We went to Langkawi Underwater World (Pantai Cenang, 07000 Langkawi, Kedah) after lunch. Entrance fee was RM30, only for those with MyKad else it’s going to be RM40.

It’s not bright in there, flash photography is not allowed and animal moves! Hence, I failed to take any decent photos. I decided to use video instead.

Here you go… Enjoy!

Langkawi (11 – 14 May 2014) – Part 3

Posted on July 29, 2014July 30, 2014 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Langkawi (11 – 14 May 2014) – Part 3

After a long wait, part 3 is finally here, our second day in Langkawi. We started our day early.

First, we hunted for breakfast. We came across Restoran Haji Ali (Lot 98, Pusat Perniagaan Kelana Mas, Kedah, 07000 Kuah, Pulau Langkawi) and decided to just settled our breakfast here. Since there were 3 Muslims in our group, so we had to go to halal places for meals throughout the whole trip.

Left: Fried Maggie Mee, no idea how much. Didn’t bother to check it out too hahaha…

Right: Roti Canai Kosong(RM0.90). First time I’m being served with cut up roti canai *LOL*

I don’t remember how much our breakfast was but we only ended up paying few Ringgit per person inclusive of drinks. So cheap!

After breakfast, we headed to Oriental Village (Telaga Harbour Park, 07000 Langkawi, Kedah) for the cable car ride. Too bad the skybridge was closed.

The views along the way…

We’re here!

We headed straight to the cable car ticketing counter. The ticket is cheaper if you’re Malaysian. I don’t remember how much though. Normal price is RM35 for return ticket.

Up up we go… This is my third cable car ride. First was years back in Genting, second was in New Zealand, third in Langkawi.

Left: So many people up there trying to take photos of the view and lots of selfie sticks too!

Right: Too bad the Skybridge is closed for maintenance.

We were lucky to go up earlier because it rained right after we’re done with our photo taking!

Since it rained, we left the place after doing a bit of souvenirs shopping. We headed to Cenang to find food.

We just simply find a place for lunch, ended up at D’Khas Cafe. You’ll be surprised with what we ordered ;p mostly fried rice!

Left: Pad Thai.

Right: Seafood Fried Rice (RM10).

Left: Pattaya Fried Rice (RM8).

Right: Prawn Fried Rice (RM10).

Left: Padprik beef with white rice (RM10 but not sure the rice was included or charged separately).

Right: Salted Fish Fried rice (RM6.50), I ordered this, the cheapest of all the dishes we had ordered. Taste? It tasted as it should.

The food is just normal, nothing to rave about. Just good enough to fill our empty stomachs.

Next up will be the Underwater World.

Langkawi (11 – 14 May 2014) – Part 2

Posted on July 5, 2014July 5, 2014 By sweet surrender 4 Comments on Langkawi (11 – 14 May 2014) – Part 2

Continue on from Part 1 after a long break about this trip… Goodness… I really can’t find the time and energy to do updates like I used to 🙁

We headed to Dataran Lang aka Eagle Square after lunch to see the famous statue of the eagle in Langkawi.

Seriously… At the entrance, there’s this annoying Milo jingle which stuck in your head. It took us quite awhile to figure out and we just laughing it away but it’s no longer funny when it repeat non-stop and making you nuts!

Jetty Point not far away where you can enjoy duty free shopping. The prices are the same as at the airport.

The statue area was packed with people trying to take photo with the eagle -.-” It was extremely hot too. Managed to take some photos and then we left to the beach.

Pantai Cenang, lovely sunset but hmm… The beach wasn’t as nice as I expected. Put too high expectations.

Time for dinner. Our dinner was rather late, if not mistaken it was 10pm+. Before that we went shopping around Cenang area. One thing for sure, no bargain allowed, no matter how you sweet talk them, the price will remain.

Left: We ended up Telaga Seafood Restaurant.

Right: Crab stir fried with chili sauce, very spicy! RM8/100gm.

Left: Telaga “3S’ Style fish dish. Not sure what fish is this and the price too, we just ordered ;p 3S stands for sweet, spicy, and sour.

Right: One of the fried rice ordered by our travel mate which I don’t remember what. They have a variety of fried rice which ranged between RM6.50-RM20.

Left: Kailan Oyster Sauce (RM7)
Right: Tom Yam Seafood Soup (RM18)

Overall, the food was just so-so. It did blow our budget for the day too.

That’s it for part 2, hopefully part 3 will come real soon. Wonder how long it will take me to complete writing about this trip?
