PKNU Cultural Exchange – 12.1.2012 (Part 2)

Posted on February 23, 2012February 23, 2012 By sweet surrender No Comments on PKNU Cultural Exchange – 12.1.2012 (Part 2)

After caligraphy class, we had to go to do our next mission. We need to produce a video on our assignedd location.

We need to go to somewhere quite far, if I recall correctly, it’s almost 1 hour subway ride. As usual, we took our subway from this station (left picture).

We arrived at Dongnae and started filming.

We walked to the market.

The girls from Norway and Ireland were the centre of attention throughout the market because they’re so fair and so pretty! Kept hearing 예쁘다 (yeppuda). It means “pretty” in Korean.

After that, got some street food. I don’t remember the food name ;p 3 for KRW1000, so cheap! It’s so yummy!

For dinner, we went to Mr. Pizza. It’s so popular here! There tagline sure makes women feel happy, “Love for Women”. According to our Korean buddy, this pizza outlet is designed with women in mind. This is the only place we found English version menu! How exciting! At least we can order something without looking like an ultimate fool ;p The salad bar provide unlimited salad for each table. Don’t remember how much to pay to be entitled for this. We did not order this but our Korean buddies said that they normally will order the salad with pizza.

Left: The interior.
Right: With 2 Korean group members 😉

Left: Cheese sticks (KRW3900 for 4 sticks, KRW6900 for 8 sticks), oh gosh! Heavenly!! Make it even more sinful, it came with cheese sauce for dipping.

Right: Your Special, make your own pizza. Large one is KRW14600 and for the topping is KRW1500 each. If I’m not mistaken, it’s pepperoni and ham.

Left: Mr. Pizza Combo (large,KRW21500), pepperoni, bacon, mushroom, and 9 more toppings. That sure sounds a lot!

Right: Bulgogi Pizza (large, KRW20500), fusion style pizza, very straight forward ;p

We called it a night after that, was so tired. I took the leftover back and placed it under my bed’s drawer instead of the fridge because the floor was heated. In the morning, I got hot pizza for breakfast instead of stone cold pizza from the fridge. How nice! It sounds gross but seriously it’s a great way to store the leftover pizza.

By the way, since out laundry got no dryer (very weird, don’t understand), we dried our clothes on the floor and in the drawer under our bed, guess what?!?! It dried! WOW! Also, the laundry was so high-tech! We had
to scan our blood vessel to go in! However… I just found it redundant, didn’t even need to do it, I kept forgetting my password ;p there’s a staircase to go back up to the dormitory lobby area. The scannig was actually meant to avoid the guys go to the girls’ dormitory or vice versa via the lift.

That’s the end of part 2.

Left: In the, we had special lecture about Korean Wave again! However, this time is about the movie industry.

Right: In the afternoon, we had caligraphy class. I haven’t touch the brush for more than 15 years! WOW! This sure makes me sound like I’m soooo old! ;p

We were given with lots of papers to practice before drawing it on the real fan. Once we got more comfortable, we drew on the template.

I tried to replicate whatever I had drawn on the template on the fan but ended up with something else. Quite satisfied with it. Consideing I haven’t do any caligraphy writing for more than a decade ;p

While waiting to get my fan stamped, I took photos with the handsomes and pretties 😉

There you go!

Part 2 coming soon!

PKNU Cultural Exchange – 11.1.2012

It’s been few days after the previous update, I have problem with my server, I can’t log in to upload photos. Luckily I have other server, so now I will just upload my photos there. Sigh…

Finally we got to wear the hanbok.

There’s a special lecture about Korea and was surprised that one of the Petronas Towers was built by Korean company. We were also shown how children pay respect to their parents and some of us went up to try it out.

Left: My buddy and I.
Right: We wore pink hanbok! I don’t have a photo of myself wearing it.

Group photo is a must!

More photos ;p

After the photo shot, we were served with Korean traditional desserts but I didn’t take the photos of them because my camera was not with me. That’s all for our morning activity. In the afternoon, we had Korean class.

These are my antibiotics, prescribed to me for the inflammation I developed from getting splinter under my foot after one week daily alcohol consumption. Was told to stop drinking until it fully healed as alcohol would make it worst. I got the splinter the morning before I headed to the airport.

I had to go to the clinic in the uni for dressing everyday. Good thing was that it’s FOC! Even with the medicine. If I’m in Australia, it would be hell of money. Blessing in disguise I guess…

Really cannot underestimate this little thing can actually cause quite a havoc to your life.

Busy weeks ahead! Orientation week, U-week, and Fringe. I’m involved in all of them. I’m crazy ;p Just want to keep myself occupy as much as possible.

PKNU Cultural Exchange – 10.1.2012

It’s a Tuesday.

Left: we had our special lecture again. This time it’s about the history of Korean language and guess what it’s not taught by a Korean lecturer. Impressive!

Right: Then we had the very first presentation. We were required to come out with any topic related to culture for the presentation. We learnt about table manners of different countries and…

Left: Drinking culture of different countries.

Right: In the afternoon, we went for cooking class.

I teamed up with another Korean buddy instead of my original buddy. We switched because we stood at the wrong place and might as well just pair up with whoever opposite us. We cooked scallion, beef and seafood pancake, and rice cake soup. It was delicious but too bad we couldn’t finish them as we ate a lot during lunch, such a waste.

We were also served with dessert after that. I’m not sure what they’re called ;p

Then at night, we had a gathering at a drinking place, it’s set like a jail. I’m not sure the exact name pf the place but we referred it as Jail Bar *LOL*

Left: Seaweed soup.

Right: Huge pitcher of beer! I didn’t drink a single bit, no alcohol for me at all because of my wound that I developed during my stay here -.-” I was told that I must not drink anymore until it heals. Will tell you more about it in coming post.

Soju and beer made a perfect pair (to me it’s just alcphol, no difference). Instead of mixing them the usual way, we tried Jägerbomb. We suceed!

Eating and drinking, this is what Koreans normally do.

Before we ended the night, we had this thing going on. Basically, it will start at one end of the room to the other end of the room whereby each person will drink in one go, one after another. Since I didn’t drink alcohol, I drank my water when it’s my turn ;p

After that, we headed to karaoke and that’s when more drinking happened for some people and got kind of out of control. Oh well… That’s the problem when you are drunk.

PKNU Cultural Exchange – 8.1.2012

Posted on February 11, 2012February 14, 2012 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on PKNU Cultural Exchange – 8.1.2012

On Sunday, most of our Korean buddies are busy with their own things, so we went out again on our own, this time to Seomyeon for shopping. It’s in the subway station, things are selling rather cheap there.

When we’re there, we couldn’t find the place we’ve been to previously instead ended up in this new place. Things were more expensive here.

It took us quite a long time to finally found the place we’re supposed to go. No photos of the place hehehe…

I bought a winter jacket for KRW79000, gosh… It’s expensive but what to do? Didn’t know Korean, hard to bargain. At least I managed to get it down from KRW85000 to KRW79000. It was hard to decide whether to buy or not. I didn’t even look at the jacket, it was hanging there with all the other jackets, I just simply took it out of the hanger and it looked good on me! Not many times in my life could find something that fit me just right. At the end, I committed to buy it. Oh well… At least one of thing in my shopping list was settled. This is my most expensive purchase in Korea.

After that, we decided to head back. Was starving. So we went to Popeyes which is located at the entrance of the uni.

I ordered a lunch set which cost me KRW5500. Don’t quite remember the exact burger I ordered, I think it was Lady Sandwich Set.

Then, for dinner, we went to a place near the uni. Some came back from there and told us it was good, so we went there.

No idea what’s this place is called ;p

Sorry to say that… It’s just not my type. It’s rather expensive too.

Wasn’t a very satisfied dinner but as long that can fill the stomach it’s good enough.

That’s the end of day 7 in Busan. Won’t have day 8 for update but will go straight to day 9 because I have no idea why I didn’t take any photo on that day. I guess nothing interesting happened *LOL*
