Imperial Palace Hotel, Miri

Posted on December 19, 2016December 19, 2016 By sweet surrender No Comments on Imperial Palace Hotel, Miri

Imperial Palace Hotel, Miri, a business 4-star hotel under Imperial Group of Hotels. The hotel is approximately 25-minute drive from Miri Airport. You can easily find retail shops, food & beverage outlets, supermarket and departmental stores, and entertainment outlets around it.

Had an opportunity to stay in this hotel few months back because of a work assignment.

Can’t remember the room type I’m staying though. It is spacious enough. Was bigger than I expected.

There’s bathtub cum shower in the bathroom. The toiletries were rather complete even provided toothbrush and toothpaste for the convenient of guests. Towels, facial tissues, and toilet rolls were all folded in fan shape. I guess that’s their standard, it sure requires time and effort for the housekeeping staff to get everything arranged this way.

Left: The basic tea/coffee making facility.

Right: My breakfast. They have quite a variety of selections from local to western. Make your own coffee and tea at the beverage machines available.

Staff service was good. Overall, it’s not a bad hotel to stay when you are in Miri.

Nanjing Fuzimiao

Posted on December 12, 2016December 12, 2016 By sweet surrender No Comments on Nanjing Fuzimiao

Fuzimiao in Nanjing is one of the tourist attractions in Nanjing. Went there way back in July!

Nanjing Fuzimiao (Chinese: 南京夫子廟) or Fuzimiao (Chinese: 夫子廟; literally: “Confucian Temple”), is located in southern Nanjing City on banks of the Qinhuai River. Within the area are cultural attractions, arts, shopping, and entertainment.

It sure is one very popular tourist attractions. So many people! You can see many old buildings that normally you just see in old Chinese drama series/movies.

It was a place to worship and consecrate Confucius, a great philosopher and educator of ancient China.

Wall of the Temple of Confucius.

This is the place where you can learn how ancient Chinese governments choose officials and all the other related history.

Nanjing Fuzimiao has had a national reputation since 1034 in the Ming Dynasty and it was greatly promoted in the Qing Dynasty. In the two dynasties, Fuzimiao was a thriving commercial and entertainment center emersed in rich culture and arts. It is said that in the time of Qing, the streets in this area had a total length of more than 10 Li (equal to five km) with countless shops, restaurants, bars and hotels, lining up two sides of these streets with colorful signs and lights. The streets were frequented everyday by travelers, wealthy merchants, and royal members in casual clothes.

In 1985, the municipal government spent millions to renovate the whole area. It’s also now a center for shopping, dining and entertainment.

Night view of Qin Huai River at Fuzimiao.

We had our dinner in one of the restaurants there. Can’t remember the name. This is a set of samplers of all the Nanjing local street food for 1 pax. Too full! Don’t be cheated be all these small plates of food. We couldn’t finish them! More than 20 types to try. These are just a portion, some were eaten to make space for more dishes. I can’t remember the price though, not cheap. Truth to be told, it’s better to eat them elsewhere.

This is the only attractions I went when I was there as we didn’t stay long there and also because we’re there for work.

Sofitel Nanjing Galaxy Suning

Posted on November 20, 2016 By sweet surrender No Comments on Sofitel Nanjing Galaxy Suning

After quite awhile, here’s another post from my China trip back in July. Wah! Hahaha… So long ago!! I stayed at Sofitel Nanjing Galaxy Suning, a 5-star hotel in Nanjing. The hotel is located in a 48-story tower, in the city’s central business district. It’s 1 km from Xuanwumen metro stop and 5 km from the Ming Dynasty Chaotian Palace.

I didn’t take photos of the lobby hehehe… Too shy to do so. There’s many artworks around it.

I stayed on the 43rd floor if I recall correctly. That is high! The room is extremely spacious.

It is not a new hotel, it’s been around for awhile, nevertheless, it was well-maintained. Staff were very helpful and friendly. While waiting for check-in, they will extend welcome drink to the guests.

The bathroom is spacious too! Sounds so sakai 😛

The rooms and suites all 36 square meters or bigger. There is also free WIFI access throughout the hotel including public areas and guestrooms. Couldn’t talk on the food though as breakfast was not included in my room booking.

You can easily find food around the hotel. Very convenient location.

Here’s views from my room… The city of Nanjing. See the lake far far away.

If I do ever come back to Nanjing, I don’t mind staying here again. If I recall correctly, the room rate is below RM400 per night without breakfast through Agoda.

Views of Shanghai

Posted on November 9, 2016 By sweet surrender No Comments on Views of Shanghai

Finally settle down for a bit after a crazy trip to Taipei.

Shanghai… Back in July I went. Haven’t finish posting about it. I didn’t go to many places as it’s a work trip.

Here to share some photos on the streets that I managed to take.

I have no idea where all these places are, just took photos from the taxi and some short walk to some shopping places.

The outside of Les Suites Orient, Bund Shanghai.

The Bund aka Waitan is a very prime area, a waterfront area in central Shanghai.

The tourist attractions, The Bund, just right opposite the hotel I stayed. Indeed a lot of people but majority were mainland Chinese.

I guess this is the end of Shanghai post. Nanjing should be next. Sure took me a long time to post. I still have Batang Ai post. Work is just taking up too much of my energy and time.

Les Suites Orient, Bund Shanghai

Posted on October 8, 2016October 9, 2016 By sweet surrender No Comments on Les Suites Orient, Bund Shanghai

Was fortunate to be able to stay at Les Suites Orient, Bund Shanghai, during my previous trip to Shanghai in July. First time in my life staying in such luxurious hotel in a very strategic location. Can easily walk to Nanjing Road, the main shopping street of Shanghai.

Les Suites Orient ON THE BUND is a life style boutique hotel with an unparalleled location on the city’s most famous boulevard.
With panoramic views of the famous Bund, the Lujiazui skyline, as well as the 16th century Yu Gardens, the property has a sweeping eye over both the old and new. Guests can enjoy a view from any of its rooms and suites, while enjoying Western and Asian cuisine at Cafe Dongxi.

These photos are taken across the road of the hotel. Didn’t take photos of the lobby because didn’t want to look like a ‘sakai’ *LOL* Immediately entering the hotel, I thought I’m heading into a spa.

I stayed in 12th floor. Upon going into the room… WOW! I was blown away! This room, Bund Studio, was booked for about RM700 per night from Agoda. The bed is so comfy, the minibar is well-stocked, fruits and bottled water are complimentary. Coffee making machine is available for you to brew gourmet coffee. The tea bag they stock is Twinnings while coffee capsule is Illy.

The bathroom has bathtub and spacious shower cubicle. While enjoying the bathtub, you can watch TV or enjoy the view from the window. The bathroom itself is huge! On the mirror, there’s digital clock and outdoor temperature/weather display built-in. There’s a sofa, writing desk , and TV in the room too.

The toiletries are by Gilchrist & Soames. The lotion is moisturizing; the shampoo and conditioner gave me soft and easy to manage hair; and the shower gel is not drying.

The view from the room and bathroom. Great view isn’t it? Too bad it rained and always gloomy out there. Just too bad, the city is pretty polluted that you hardly see blue sky. Imagine if the sky is blue… That will be one amazing view.

Left: Breakfast at Cafe Dongxi. A very cozy place for breakfast serving a combination of Chinese and Western specialties.
Right: You can also enjoy free snacks and fruit in the Lounge on the 3rd floor. This was where I spent my early evening at because I’m just too lazy to go out to find food after work.

Left: The view from the lounge’s window.
Right: Very cozy lounge.

The service is good, staff is friendly. WiFi is available in all areas and is free of charge. There’s a fitness centre and business centre.

Overall, if you have the budget, this is one good hotel that you can stay when you’re in Shanghai.
