Day 4 in Beijing: It was such a sunny day! We started our journey from the hotel to the Great Wall of China. I never knew there were so many sections of the Great Wall. It’s known to be crowded. I didn’t do much research before the trip, either. I only knew where I’d be visiting, but not the details. That’s the beauty of following a tour hahaha… I’ll have no expectations and let them surprise me. It’s like opening a blind box.

We were all so excited to see there was no crowd at all! We almost had the whole place for ourselves! Who would have dreamed that?!?

Frankly, the Bird Nest was nothing much. I didn’t see a point in coming here. It’s more like checking off a landmark in Beijing for a first-time visit. The trip to Beijing won’t be complete if you don’t come to see it when you’re here. Oh well… Luckily, it was part of the tour. If I were to plan it myself, I’d be kicking myself hard for wasting the time and effort just to be here.

I did a little research on what to eat here since this is where we’re going to have dinner at our own expense. We ended up buying cakes and pastries for dinner in the hotel room. We were not hungry yet because we had lunch late and were well-fed.

Let’s check out the first hotel we stayed at when we were in Beijing. We stayed at Holiday Inn Express Beijing Tongzhou for 3 nights. It’s very near Universal Studio with shuttle to and fro the hotel too. A good choice if you want to go there. I think the shopping mall next door has open its door already. So it’s very convenient. When we were there, it’s not operating yet.

Here’s the room tour. Spacious bright room.

Food choice not that extensive but it’s OK. The good thing with this hotel is that breakfast is automatically included in the room booking.

On day 2, after breakfast, we started our full day tour at 8am. Our first stop was the Forbidden City.

After the Forbidden City, it’s time to head to lunch at Wangfujin.

Next, off we went to the Temple of Heaven. It was drizzling. Luckily, it stopped when we’re inside the compound.

After that, it was time to catch the acrobatics show. Then, the last stop was Peking duck dinner at a nearby restaurant before we headed back to our hotel, bracing the peak-hour jam.

That’s the end of day 3.

Back in June, just after Gawai, we went to Beijing. The trip was quite last-minute. It was booked 2 weeks before the trip. We didn’t plan for it. Just happened that the timing was right. Why not? The trip there was smooth. All went well. Upon arrival, we were greeted by rain.

Day 1, upon arrival, I experienced my first culture shock. Apparently, people there (the older ones) use the toilet without locking the door. The lady inside, instead of freaking out, was super chill and said, “Someone’s inside.” No drama, no panic—just pure zen. Meanwhile, I was standing there completely mortified. 😳 I’ve heard of such a thing before but would never expect to experience it first-hand. Certainly an experience.

That’s the end of day 1 and 2. Day 1 was spent on the flight, and we arrived in Beijing on day 2.
