How’s Your BM?

Posted on June 9, 2010June 12, 2010 By sweet surrender 4 Comments on How’s Your BM?

BM = Bahasa Malaysia = Bahasa Melayu.

No… I’m not here to debate the usage of Bahasa Malaysia or Bahasa Melayu in school subject. To me, they are both the same. Our national language. In short, I’ll just refer it as BM.

I used to have very good command of BM years back when I was in secondary school(more than 10 years back) but now… It’s quite rusty but the funny thing is that it can still be as good as it used to more than 10 years ago. My writing wasn’t good but speaking was good, even better than my English.

Nowadays, I can be very good in speaking BM if only when I’m in KL. If I’m in Kuching, my BM is pretty cacat.

I spoke fluent BM with no accent, similar to those Malay movies on TV when I was in KL. When I met a Malaysian stranger in KL, if I’m not sure what kind of language he/she used, I would automatically talk to him/her in BM but not here in Kuching.

In Kuching, it will be English automatically. I’m sure I’m not the only one that does this ;p During my previous KL trip, many taxi drivers were quite surprised that I’m from Sarawak, they said that I didn’t sound like one, they thought I’m local.

I remember that last time when I was in my first year college, my BM was still good since I had only left secondary school in less than two months, I went to a government department to ask about something, the officer actually asked me whether I’m from Semenanjung *LOL* I told him I’m pure breed Sarawakian, he was surprised, he told me my BM sounded very Semenanjung. Thanks to all those Malay dramas that I watched when I was young. Now? Hahaha… I just can’t open my mouth to speak in BM here, even if I did, it would sound extremely weird.

However, I have almost no clue of Bahasa Sarawak. Hehehe… I remembered I made a huge boo boo last time when a lady spoke to me in Bahasa Sarawak. She asked one thing, I answered another thing. She just said, “Oh…”, then left ;p I didn’t know until I left the place and my friends told me I gave the wrong respond earlier on hahaha…

How about you? How rusty is your BM now?

Smoke Candy?

Posted on May 9, 2010 By sweet surrender No Comments on Smoke Candy?

Smoke Candy? It’s bad! I thought it’s banned in this country but could still see it in the supermarket. I saw this in one of the supermarkets in Serian.

I don’t think this is candy. The Chinese words there stated that it’s chewing gum. Whatever it is, it’s bad influence to children. It’s banned already so there shouldn’t be any excuse in selling it. It’s wrong in every single way.

Enough said!

Even Dog has Heart

Posted on May 4, 2010May 5, 2010 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Even Dog has Heart

Want to share something with you today, it really touched me in a way. Even dog has the heart to protect its own species, why some human don’t?

I was driving at a housing estate this afternoon. I was approaching a T-junction and a frail dog crossed the road. I maintained my speed, not slowing down because I’m quite slow already. There’s a dog opposite the road, it was watching closely at the frail dog and at my car. It even seemed to be prepared to charge ahead if needed.

When I almost reached the junction, the frail dog was still crossing the road, I started to slow down a bit but getting nearer to the dog. The dog that was watching quickly ran out from the opposite road as if wanted to rescue the frail dog in case I didn’t stop. I did stop at the end.

Imagine a drama where someone crosses the road and the hero will come out and push the person away so that he won’t get hit by the car. It’s almost similar.

The dog looked at me, then went back to the opposite road. It didn’t just end there, it was still looking closely at the frail dog to ensure that it’s safe. The frail dog didn’t show any emotion but just walked, walked, and walked… Imagine someone who is down walking on the street not paying attention to his surrounding.

So? Even animals have such heart, what’s more to say when it comes to human?

Car Petrol Stolen

Posted on April 3, 2010April 4, 2010 By sweet surrender 6 Comments on Car Petrol Stolen

One of our cars has been targeted by various kind of thieves over the years, what to do? It’s just a common Perodua Kembara(the parts are in demand), can’t afford any unique car that could deter people from messing around it:
1. Attempted to steal our car but steering locks and alarm turned them off. At the end, they carted away stuffs in the drawer and broke our back door’s lock.

2. Stole our tyre cover, you know the cover to cover the spare tyre behind the 4×4? That one.

3. Attempted to steal again! Left a gaping hole at the driver’s side, took the lock away. They failed to drive the car away because of the alarm and steering locks.

4. Drained out petrol! @#$%^&* Stole our petrol!

***

I didn’t drive the car for almost a week until yesterday. I’m the one driving it most of the time. The last time I drove, the oil level was at the last level. Didn’t bother about it because won’t be driving it anywhere far so should be able to last for quite a while. I didn’t know my dad refueled it few days ago because I didn’t use the car those few days.

Yesterday morning, it was still around the same level as last week. I went to church with it. Nothing amiss.

Yesterday night, we decided to went out, my dad was shocked to see the oil level was at “E”, supposed to have at least half tank. At first, we thought the meter might be malfunctioned. To check on it, my dad went to refuel another half tank. If the meter wasn’t spoiled, then it should reach full tank but it didn’t. Instead it only rose till half the tank. Not only that, my dad had trouble closing the cover after refueling and noticed the bar in there was slightly crooked. Further checked, there were signs of forced entry.

The thief drained our petrol! *&%^$%# Stupid thief tried to drain our petrol from the top but couldn’t reach it because there wasn’t much petrol in there. He/She ended up went all the way down there to drain the petrol. How hardworking was that? Good thing my dad only refueled RM35 of fuel not full tank. Very hardworking for such little amount fuel. *smack head*

My dad said that he will not refuel the car to full tank from now on. Just refuel for enough to use for a week or two since we don’t always use this car. What to do? I’m not staying in a place with our own car porch, what to expect when you stay at shophouse? That’s why it’s an easy target.

That morning, there was still a bit left that’s why I didn’t notice anything as that’s almost the level I saw the last time I drove the car. Then towards the day, the oil evaporated and leak because the f***ing thief didn’t tighten the cap below the car causing the oil to leak out bit by bit! Only noticed it this today when my dad asked the mechanic next door to have a look at the fuel cover since the bar there was twisted. No wonder the meter dropped till “E”. Good thing was that the thief still had the heart to put the cap back rather than threw the cap away else we’ll be in huge trouble when refueling because we didn’t think of checking the cap down there.

Beware people! It seems like stealing other’s petrol is a growing trend now. I always heard of motorbikes suffering from such thing but now cars too.

Earth Hour 2010

Posted on March 27, 2010March 28, 2010 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Earth Hour 2010

Last year, during Earth Hour, I was at Sematan Palm Beach Resort with my family. The resort off all its lights outside. We were in our room. We off our lights but left the TV on *LOL*

This year, it’s pretty funny.

Talking about Earth Hour. I really don’t know how to put it. I’m not against it but I’m not that supportive towards it also. We might as well do our part to save mother earth daily rather than this particular day? I know it’s some sort of symbolic but still I don’t get it especially towards some people that support this event fully yet they are the one that wasted the most electricity on daily basis. Bah! No difference at all.

Anyway, back to this year’s earth hour. It’s 8.30pm and we were still having our dinner while watching Satellite TV with 5 lights on, 4 in living room(coz we’re not using florescent tubes) and 1 at the staircase. At that time, I went to switch on another TV because I wanted to catch my show. My dad suddenly asked me to off 4 lights in the living room since I got up and was on my way to the light switch.

I was quite blurred at first. Then I realized, it’s Earth Hour already! I asked my dad twice whether he’s serious about switching off the lights? Even my mom too asked him about it. Then he said, “just support a bit lah“. Try to imagine laughing while your mouth is full. Then my mom said, “might as well off all the lights and just use the lights from the TVs!” Hahaha…

Why? Aren’t we supposed to off all the lights? Not only that, might as well off the TVs since there’s light from the TV, the computer too *LOL* Yet, at this time we had two TVs switched on, 3 bulbs off, 1 on because we’re still having dinner, 1 florescent tube at the staircase as you don’t want to fall from the staircase due to darkness, and 2 computers on.

So? Wanna shoot me for that?

Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that, why don’t we do power saving on daily basis rather than just today? There is no point doing it once a year. Do it everyday! It’s really not that hard.

Happy Earth Hour!
